My friend just inherited his dad's NA jetta it's a 02 with next to nothing on the odometer. He's been to APR's website a couple of times and he's thinking about turboing it. How feasible would a stage III setup on his car be? Would it even be just too much to worry about or what?

not worth the PITA. A turbo setup on that thing would net you about as much as a chipped 1.8T, and it would be a real pain to make it run right, thanks to ME7

Neuspeed sells a supercharger that will make the car less gutless, but not fast. There are also countless turbo kits for the 2.slow that, like the supercharger, can bring it up to 180-200hp. Without building and tuning a complete custom setup, it will never be very fast. None of the stuff apr sells is designed for the 2.0.

Didn't Jeremy say his 2.0 trapped over a 100? Find out what he's doing.

I say build it, turbo it, and then blow the doors off any VW/Audi that wants a piece. 8)

yeah i don't think you want to mess with that. unless you are going to go all out on it, it won't be worth it and you'll never see the gains you want.

Unless he's got major bank that will never happen.

Funny, but I don't think that'll happen. The 2.slow is best left alone.

Just tell him to sell it and get something with more potential.

So here is his two options:
1.) Build the hell out of it = $$$$$ + headaches + time

2.) Go with the flow (1.8T) = less headaches, time, etc.

yeah it takes time and money. I've found that out. at least the kits for the jetta's fit a lot better. basically if you get a turbo kit and leave it alone it'll work great, but when you start turning it up you run into problems.

I'm selling my car. It runs now. I cranked it up last week. It's got 2 coolant lines that need to be replaced because they cracked somehow during the engine transition, but other than that it is ready to go. all it needs is to be broken in and then tuned. it's set back to stock fueling and running no boost to break the motor in. but I'm selling it and getting a 350z. at least that's the plan if i can swing it. if not I'll get a truck to haul around my 4wheeler in and a bike.

i pulled the old block apart a while back and the 2nd and 3rd piston ring lands were cracked all over the place. they fell out into like 10 pieces. it was wierd because i though it would have been the 1st cylinder that went first. guess i was wrong though. 1 and 4 were fine.

weeell...he's decided to stay slow for now. he just bought a house :o so the car is the least of his worries. he says he's gonna wait till he gets another raise then hopefully buy an audi. the guys' from germany so he's all about der yerman carz. He's actually thinking that next year, he's gonna go back and visit his mom and bring back an avant wagon....so he says...but generally what he says is what he does. I'll keep you guys posted if anything cool happens.
