Well not exactly but here is the story. I was at work today when a guy came in with a nice looking 97 GST Eclipse. I started talking to him about it and he seemed pretty cool. He offered to sell it too me for only $3,500. Not a shocker around where live. Guys sell cars for cheap like mad men. It's pretty crazy. Fellow worker Shane picked up a truck for free because the guy wanted it out of his yard. He slapped in a fuel pump, cranked it up and took off. A few weeks before he bought a good looking Caprice with an LT1 for only $600. Jabo another worker grabber up a Monte Carlo SS with a 350 for less than a G and pulled up today with a Regal that had a built 350 in it.... a mere $1,000 (body was in good shape too). I've been telling them to look for something for me to buy as a beater.

Well anyway, the guy with the Eclipse offered to race me for some money. I kinda let him know that I would win. He didn't believe me and told me to name a price. I said $5,000 joking around. His response "sounds good, when do you want to do it" I told him I was kidding then he said he would run me right then down the street for $500. Me being stupid I declined. Jabo my co worker was going to put up some money for me. He also said he knew the guy and that he would pay up. A bunch of these guys race around here for some pretty darn big stakes so I was pretty sure he would.

After talking some more he said he had another car for me. A 1996 240SX SE 5 speed, black, in real good condition with less than 100k. Said he would give it up for $2,500 (Jabo said he knows the guy would take 2k for it). This is the exact car Brandon has been looking for, so hopefully he can get it.

Then he said he had yet another car for me. A 1991 240SX notch back 5-speed SE. Runs good, needs some paint, and the digital display doesn't work. Said for me to make an offer of around $500 OR if I come up to look at it I could possibly run him in his Eclipse for the car.

Even with all the talk of racing and the like he was very cool. I'm very tempted to run him for a free car, but I would hate to win then something happen, even if Jabo said that the kids got plenty of money and would pay (he was pimping the fancy clothes and gold pretty hard). I would also hate to get a ticket over it.

What would you guys do?

If you do race, take him to the track. I wouldn't go around announcing that you were racing for money or anything. That way there's no question: no differences in pavement, no arguing over who crossed first, no tickets.
That GS-T hs got to have some serious oomph for him to be so sure about it, or that car has got to be a pile of crap if he's willing to race for it. Or he's a dumbass.

Yeah the ticket things are what I'm worried about. I checked the car over. Engine was stock, stock downpipe, stock exhaust. Guys try to race me all the time for money at the shop. No one has a clue what a Type-R is and once they hear its a 4 cylinder without nitrous the bets start coming. I might just go to the 1/8mi track around here and race him. That way the guys that know him will make him pay up and we'll have slips.
