I don't care what side you are on this is stupid. It seriously is a case of the hit dog yelps the loudest. He hasn't even been in office for a month and we are already seeing all kinds of crazy things but the most alarming to me is that a petition to have Rush removed off the air and a fairness doctrine brought in. Make no mistake a petition against comments is guise for a petition to make a stop to anyone expressing a thought contrary to what the GOV approves. You can bet this will be used as ammunition to regulate and even remove inflamitory talk show hosts if they do not espouse the same ideals as the elected officials.
You never hear of any other outrage unless it is said by a conservative. Hell last weeks inauguration speech was punctuated by a racial comments by the washed up Joseph Lowery.
Regardless of you political views you have to see that that a petition to remove and silence any person in the media or otherwise is a move to a socialist communist state. Aside from this I happened to be listening when Rush made his comments and took an angry caller to when he further quantified that he "wanted his policies to fail, but as a president he hoped he was successful, but in order for him to be successful his bailout policies and so forth needed to fail."
I honestly feel like I am in Star Wars Episode III we are openly trying to wage war on free speech (The Jedi).

The government only has our best intentions at heart. If there's something they don't want people to hear, I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason for it. Relax!

I care because it has to start somewhere. I care because if I sit back and say nothing, and the next time someone goes a step further then others will say "who cares, there is nothing we can do about it now."
If you don't give a shit about the small steps this government is taking to making us it's property, and not the converse, then I don't know what to tell you.
I don't give two shits about how Rush feels about all of this and if he will be able to take care of himself. What I do care about is a 2nd huge bailout plan that is not going to work, do little to actually stimulate the economy, put our money in the hands of the undeserving and in programs that have nothing to do with the betterment of this country.
Fuck if we start shutting up people for expressing opinions on one side you just opened the door to shut up the other.
I rarely agreed with Colmbs of Hannity and Colmbs but dammnit I respected the fact that he could speak his peace and at the end of the day he and Hannity could disagree and still be civil.

Thats the point exactly. Even if this was happening to Katy Whoric, all of NBC or Larry King it wouldn't be the right thing to do. People have the right to speak there minds, and think how they want. If its something you do not like then simply tune your radio in on another station.

Very true, so what are you going to do about it?
At first I said "this isn't right" and I petitioned my elected representatives in Washington to get them to fight it. I quickly learned I was a fool for relying on Washington to fight fr me and represent me this day and age.
Hence forth I have set out on a personal mission to inform the electorate. I then learned that I can trust in my fellow citizens a hell of a lot more then I can trust in my government. I am sure that people would like for me to stop, but I simply can and will not. Yeah most people are ignorant of where the bail out money comes from and how it truly effects us.
Yeah most people are more interested in American Idol then there local government. However that is partly my fault for not teaching them sooner. It is our job as Americans to inform, and educate one another. We cannot rely on Public Schools, and Media to do it for us.

I am with ya Godspeed, I would rather spread the word with people I know and try to if nothing else let them know what is going on like you did with the gun thread rather than rely on those that we suppsosedly elect. (I won't go into theories on that)
My general opinion is that we as a people have just become lazy and complacent; more content to get excited about the super bowl, or american idol than the politicians forgetting common sense and just throwing what so many have given their life to not only defend but first to build.
In my own mind I see things getting worse to a point of a revolt, I see anarchy and then a restoration of balance by what means and in what time frame I am very uncertain about. All I can pray is that it isn't in my lifetime, however I also pray that my children and so forth aren't left taking out the trash from my generations mistakes.
My general opinion is that we as a people have just become lazy and complacent; more content to get excited about the super bowl, or american idol than the politicians forgetting common sense and just throwing what so many have given their life to not only defend but first to build.
complacency is the word of the day.
I could live with one or two high-profile media figures being banned from the airwaves. Good riddance, plus there's plenty more where they came from.
Police beat the shit out of people for no reason which is wrong but their jobs are extremely stressful and they get no respect. If you're in handcuffs you probably deserved it anyway.
So what if the government can see/hear everything you do. If you're not breaking the law you should have nothing to hide.
etc.
An small excerpt from the greatest punk song ever written sums it up nicely. It was written ehh about 10 years ago I think.
The going get tough, the tough get debt
Don't pay attention, pay the rent
Next of kins pay for your sins
A little faith should keep us safe
Save us
The human, existence
Is failing, resistance
Essential, the future
Written off, the odds are
Astronomically against us
Only moron and genius
Would fight a losing battle
Against the super ego
When giving in is so damn comforting
And so we go, on with our lives
We know the truth, but prefer lies
Lies are simple, simple is bliss
Why go against tradition when we can
Admit defeat, live in decline
Be the victim of our own design
The status quo, built on suspect
Why would anyone stick out their neck?
Fellow members
Club "We've Got Ours"
I'd like to introduce you to our host
He's got his, and I've got mine
Meet the decline
We are the queer
We are the whore
Ammunition
In the class war
We are worker
We love our queen
We sacrifice
We're soilent green

I think these lyrics are more fitting:
Take everything left from me
ALL
TO
BLAME
How can we still succeed, taking what we don't need?
Telling lies as alibis, selling all the hate that we breed
SUPERSIZE OUR TRAGEDIES(You can’t define me, or justify greed)
Bought in the land of the free!
(LAND, FREE)
And we're all to blame
We've gone too far
From pride to shame
We're trying so hard
We're dying in vain
We're hopelessly blissful and blind
to all we are
We want it all
With no sacrifice!!
Realize we spend our lives living in a culture of fear
Stand to salute, say thanks to the man of the year
How did we all come to this?(You can’t define me, or justify greed)
This greed that we just can't resist!
(RE-SIST)
And we're all to blame
We've gone too far
From pride to shame
We're trying so hard
We're dying in vain
We're hopelessly blissful and blind
to all we are
We want it all
Everyone wants it all
with no
SACRIFICE!!
Tell me now, what have we done? We don't know!
I can't allow what has begun to tear me down,
Believe me now, we have no choice left
With our backs against the wall!!
And now we're all to blame
We've gone too far
From pride to shame
We're hopelessly blissful and blind
When all we need
Is something true
To believe
Don't we all?
Everyone, everyone
We will fall
'Cause we're all to blame
We've gone too far
From pride to shame
We're trying so hard
We're dying in vain
We want it all
Everyone, don't we all?

We have policies and bills right now being passed through as "bailout" that the people involved have admitted have nothing to do with any bailout at all in fact they are just using the economy as a guise to get their two bit crap proposals through and lying to the people.
Now they are pissed because some talk show hosts are bringing it to light and trying to discredit and or shut them up entirely.

LOL dude you have no idea how much you are preaching to the choir. Like the sig says: Get your gun. Plenty militia in the area, get your house in order, spread the good word of the founding fathers as often as you can, and be prepared in the event your fellow countrymen call on you to take back this land of the free and home of the brave. They can have me and my families' liberties when they put us in my grave, and not a second sooner.

Exactly my point. Give them an inch they will take a mile. Whatever liberties we give up in return for some false security or take for granted out of laziness they WILL and HAVE taken. You are less of a free man then when you were born, and it will continue on an on until you loose them all in death, hopefully we can preserve them for our children.
None of us are represented in Washington anymore. Two fine examples are:
The first bailout:
85% of Americans opposed that bail out bill, but it magically it passed with 75% of the congressional votes. How is that possible unless they now feel you don't know whats best for you, and have decided to vote for what they think is best for you.
Domestic Drilling:
Again over 80% of American's want it. It is logical, and even if your Pro-Alternative energy it only makes since to use our own resources rather then buying from the Middle East. Especially since most of the Middle East doesn't like our country (another time for that talk....). Well do we have it? No. We had 1 restriction lifted, but it meant nothing. So the American people want it, and yet again are being ignored due to Washington "knowing what we need better then we ourselves"
They like to trick people into thinking it is so complicated, and hard to understand all the levels, and just how in depth it is. When it is just a larger version of your home.
Economy...simple, spend less then you make problem solved. If you cannot afford it then don't buy it!
Oil...simple why do I pay my neighbor for his water when I have my own water? If I need more then what i have then I will buy it, but I shouldn't rely on him for all my water. If there is a water substitute then great, that means I can cut down on the water I buy until I can go without it completely.
Hmmm a lyrics-off sounds fun. Since you posted NOFX can we expect Franco-Unamerican next? :D

I think that Rush does it for t3h LULZ (and Oxycontin). I don't agree with everything he says, but he's fun to listen to, unlike NPR. It's entertainment, but like ye olden days, the jester is the only one who can get away with telling the truth and keep his head. Apparently our new monarch wants Stuart Smalley and his ilk as jesters.
I am like Godspeed in that I attempt to educate the unwashed masses on how this country really works, as well as how it's supposed to. We really do need to wake up as a country, otherwise we're all headed for the same sorry fate together.
Oh, and I started the recent H.R. 45 thread, not GS. He just hijacked it like he always does. :D

I personally teach a class two times a month on the Constitution, Founding Fathers and current events. I also read as much as I can about those subjects as well. Attend City Council meetings, and some political group meetings when time permits. I write and call representatives when I find a bill I oppose or support and let them know. I try and live a responsible life that is as self sufficient as time permits, I try and teach as many people as I can about this very thing. I try and find like minded, and interested people and train them to do the same, and build an army of armed, well informed citizens that want to change this country for the better, and are ok missing the latest episode of LOST in an effort to make this country what it was founded to be. Staying up to date on the local militias progress as well.

Perhaps enough people at aSpeed are interested enough to allow political threads in general. You, yourself said there have been more and more popping up. Politics and the economy is dominating the world of cars and sports which are the other two most popular subjects here. It just seem logical.
I am not an admin here so I do not know how aSpeed is structured, but on our board we allow it in the Lounge Area as a service to our members. We are also
a car forum but car guys are into more then just cars FWIW. Just providing a place for them to talk about what they want rather then going to another board to do it.
If I removed the non-car threads from General Discussion, we'd have like...3 threads. I think we'd still have SKVR4 bashing threads on the first page.

Well, whatever. I was just expressing my opinion on the subject. I've been getting fairly frustrated with the lack of content I want to read here lately anyway and these just adds to the steaming pile for me personally.
Maybe if it was in GFY (or some other topic/subtopic heading) instead of what has become the main part of the forum I could care less. But if the first thing someone browsing this board before signing up looking for car related topics sees a bunch of political threads or even football related threads they are going to go somewhere else unless that is what they are looking for. Which I doubt they are if they are searching for a car forum...
How many new board members are active in the physical meets in Auburn? The core of this board was founded there and if it is not replenishing in some respects then aSpeed as a meeting group is going to fail. That would be a waste; aSpeed is responsible for some of my best friends and the best times I've had in my life both on-line and in person. Again both the physical and the digital play into new members feeling they can join the group and fit in.
Another thing these and the sports threads do is highlight how much a general category redesign is needed on this board. This topic has been discussed to death as well. It will happen when it happens. :D
It is a very thin line between signal and noise in a digital world. And lately to me aSpeed is more noise than signal.

For me when i want car stuff I go to the Technical section of a forum. It seems every car forum has a general for just shooting the proverbial shit. Until Swine brought it up the other day I didn't know General at aSpeed was for car related non tech items.
aSpeed has a very small about of forums. I think it is the smallest amount of forums of any of the countless forums I am a member of. It always seems to have 30 viewing in the General section, and very few anywhere else. Perhaps a look at the Discussion section is in order. I also have wondered just what the GFY section was for. I thought it was a spot for mods to move threads that got so far off topic, or out of hand.

I understand what Grider is saying, and agree that this board has gone further away from car discussion. The truth is that most of us all read our own respective boards and in most cases all know at about the same time when something cool comes out or something is controversial in the car world.
I dunno, I posted this today because I felt like it warranted a look by everyone. I personally have never read this board purely for its automotive content. I like it because it ususally stimulates lots of different and interesting comments about a very broad range of things.
I do how ever understand and have even defended Grider's stance about keeping the car board more about cars and posting the other stuff in the other dedicated forums. To be honest though no one bothers going in anything else but Gen Disc so I also understand why everything gets posted in here.
In essence I was just very pollitcally correct, made everyone feel really good about themselves, but accomplished nothing other than adding yet another post to my count.

To me all this talk about what belongs where just continues to renforce what there have already been multiple threads about, a REORGANIZING OF THE SECTIONS ON THIS FORUM!
Maybe there are not enough fitness post for a fitness section, sports post for a sports section, or politcal posts for a politcal section but there is still a need for a reorganization.
Sometimes I come here to post a thread and realize that it will get no play when a thread about guns and if we get to keep them or not is getting all the attention. Maybe if we had more organization it would be eaiser to get more threads made and discussed without being derailed or distracted by things not pertaining to them...

Let time I checked, this was the 'General Discussion' section of the board...not sure why anything but NSFW stuff shouldn't be posted here. If we have a section/sub-section for every stupid topic under the sun (Guns/Sports/Fitness/Butt Seks/etc) then WHAT THE HELL WOULD WE POST IN THE GENERAL SECTION?
Personally, I think the political threads are fine. I think the gun threads are fine. Pretty much any thread is fine with me...this is the general section.
Seriously folks, if you don't like the thread...move on, if you don't like a member...ignore them, if you don't like the board...find somewhere else to waste your time, if you don't like you life...hire a shrink.
