View Full Version : Misc Tire questions
I know jack shit about tires other than they are made out of wood. I need some stickier tires for my 240 and I've decided to keep the stock wheels for now, so i can either get some 15 inch tires, or get something bigger that wont fit the rim. I prefer that the tire fit the rim so i can make the car move and stuff.
1. What's the difference between 195/60-15 and 205/60-15?
2. I want to spend around $350 mounted/balance, out the door, or less and wet traction is important because when it rains, its dark and when its dark I cant see. (bad night vision). Any suggestions? Any
3. I know that Jimmy has gotten his stuff mounted and balanced at sears. How much do they charge?
Big 10 has Michelin pilot. I dont know the price, but i heard they were good. Could be way outta my price range though.
They also have Potenza RE910 which i've heard of ppl using

1. 215 refers to the width. they are wider than 195, which is skinny and what I have on my car now.
2. Get tires that are around 50 dollars a piece if you want to spend 350 total. The new yokahama avs tires are good and cheap.
3. I got mine mounted at sears too, and they managed to scratch the shit outta them. I guess thats because they are painted. They charge around 50 bucks.
Michelin pilots are too expensive IMO.
Thanks for the info. I'll see how cheap i can find some 205 AVS's

The first number refers to the width the second number is sidewall height in percent in relation to the width. In terms of 195/60 vs 205/60 the 205 will be wider but will also have a bigger sidewall because the sidewall will be 60% of 205mm instead of 60% of 195mm. I would try to find a tire in 205/55 if you want to keep close to the same sidewall.
Remember tires are one of the biggest mods you can make. Actually the biggest in terms of handling and braking (even more than bling bling suspension). I'd research it a good bit before just purchasing some cheap set you think is decent. Also remember to NOT get all season tires. Those sizes might not have a ton of high performance options but I'll check and post back.

Alright looks like you are in good shape. They offer Maximum and Ultra High performance tires in 205/55R15. Since I doubt you want something extreme like SO-3's (unless you want new tires every 15,000mi or less) I suggest either Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's or Yokohama AVS ES 100. Both are priced very well, $61 a piece for the Kumho's and $77 for the Yoko's, and are great all around performing tires. Both have good dry and wet weather traction and won't wear out on you too fast. You can check them out on www.tirerack.com
