Falken 512's 205/60/15's on the 240sx

I can notice a big difference in how well it sticks to the road. Pulled a couple maneuvers last night that would have put the car sideways with my original tires. This thing should handle real nice once i get around to doing some suspension stuff.

Yeah... it's alotta fun when you drive over really dirty roads and hear all the crap that those tires pick up and fling into your wheel wells...

Now imagine if you would have actually bought a good set of tires. I told you in my earlier post to NOT get all season tires. We don't have to drive in snow and basically they are not geared for performance. On top of that the 512's are rated at over 400 treadwear, thats a very hard compound which means they aren't going to be very sticky.

You could probably sell them for a really good price considering they are new and then purchase a good set of SUMMER high performance tires such as the ES100 or 712's.

I'm saying this all from first hand experience and from what every auto-x and road course racer out there well tell you. Tires do more than suspension when it comes to improving handling. After my stock set of tires (which were 140 treadwear RE010's, pretty darn good) I slapped on a set of Nitto 555's. My handling and braking went to crap and I gained a ton of body roll. I was so pissed off and my R didn't feel like an R anymore. Oh and the Nitto 555's are supposed to be performance summer tires. My next set of tires I slapped on a set of Potenza SO-3's. It instantly changed the cars personality back to what it once was (and then some). I vowed never again to throw on a set of junk tires.

The only thing a good suspension on crappy tires is going to do is make it even more obvious to how much they are holding you back.

I hear you loud and clear, but i'm not going 'all-out' or even 'half-out' on any aspect of this car. I've got a lot of bills and not a lot of money coming in. Sure i'd nice some coilovers and $150/per tire tires, and some light 16inch wheels, and 300z calipers/rotors, aluminum driveshaft, built motor and standalone, but with my budget, i can either a)wait 18+ months until i have enough money to do everything right, or settle which is what i'm doing. I can always get a set of lightweight wheels and good tires later on for autox and they should last a long time and to me feel like great tires for spirited daily driving and driving in the rain. RWD+rain sucks ass.

I got a set of 712's on my car back last june. I've auto X'd em 4 times. And drove the car every day. They still got tread on em. and they were only $99 a tire at tire rack. I'll be putting on another set of those soon. Only problem is that if I step up to 18X9.5's, the tire price doubles :x

That's what I was trying to say. 712's are only around $70 is his size, are good summer tires, and will last 30k if rotated properly.

Yeah, tires are one of the most important aspects of how a car handles. Who cares? You act like he majorly fucked up. He's not pushing the limits of the thing on the street, you never do (well I do in my Crown Vic ;) ). Why not get some good all-around tires that will last awhile. If you wanna Auto-X, and go 'all out' then you don't want to do it on stock wheels anyway, right? So get a set of light wheels and sticky tires for that.

The Kumho's and the Falken's are comparable. I had a set of 502's before I got my Kumho's and they were almost as sticky as the Kumho's. They had better turn-in qualities though. For the price any of these tires, are a good deal.

well here is the break down of what i have had:

nankang - camw with wheels - not a great performance tire...lol. but for everyday driving, :thumbs up:

bridgestone potenzo SO-3's - awesome tires! very sticky. handles like a dream. used for the strip and auto x on 15 inch steelies.

currently running michelin pilot sports - i love these tires! prety much the same as SO-3's. very sticky and great control around corners. BUT, these little bastards are expensive. $225-250 a tire

Who cares? For some reason I thought this club had something to do with performance and helping each other out. If you knew what Kumho 712's were you wouldn't be saying anything. They are not some all out super sticky tire that has to be replaced every 15k. What they are is a good performing SUMMER TIRE, notice the summer tire part, as in not ALL SEASON which is what he got and doesn't apply to southern states that don't see snow. Of course he didn't majory F up. Where in the heck did I say that? On his next set of tires hopefully he'll just be better informed.

There are tons of people that auto-x on their stock wheels and street tires (such as myself). In fact I would bet at the events I've competed at over 75% of the people do just that. On top of that better tires= better braking which is always welcomed on the street or track.

You were replying to him like you were his mom, and he stood out in the rain and got a cold.

They are good tires, affordable, and probably will never be pushed past thier limit, so yeah, who cares?
