It's not that we do or we don't it's the perception the rest of the country has of bama. Trashy and redneck. Auburn doesn't have that image.

I will say that the stereotype Jake mentioned is unbelievably accurate. We have many "lower class" customers looking scruffy, wearing old, dirty, paint-covered clothing, terrible hygiene, etc. that will come into our branch to cash checks, and I can guess which are Bama fans with around 90% accuracy. I'm not saying that all Bama fans are trashy, I'm saying that most trashy people are Bama fans (if that makes sense).

Couldn't have said it better myself. Outside of the Montgomery and Auburn areas this is extremely true

There is a reason for that. See, ole country redneck didn't go to college and being from the south, has the memories of football engrained in him from the glory days of highschool. Since said redneck had no interest in going to college, which no doubt is the sole reason his football career was cut short, he needs a team to hoop-n'-holler for, a team day dream about playing for, a team to let the budweiser flow for while throwing the empty beer cans at the TV for any penalty calls, justified or not. So, said redneck makes the natural choice most rednecks do. "I live in the state of Alabama, might as well go for Alabama." And from that day forth his sworn allegiance UA and hatred of Auburn begin, all while directly missing the emotional link that 99% of AU fans share...having attended the college they cheer for. He will then research UA's history and tout it as though he was a fan, student, and Coaches assistant there since the 1600's.

The mystery is unraveled.

i have explained this to many people. honestly most bama fans agree with me after i put it that way. i usually end up closing with this. bama gets a LOT of their fans by default...meaning they are born in bama and have no connection to either school so they pick bama by default (living in bama and teh old history of dA bear). thats just the way it is lol.

Well, no surprise here, but Newton said he is going to forgo his senior season and declare for the draft:

Whitney's brother said he's a lot like watching cam play as far as size and speed and running prowess.

Remember, he's still in highschool and in 2 years, they can certainly bulk him up a bit more before he starts playing.

He's a little shorter but Peyton said he's insanely fast and rather than running over people kinda like what Cam would do, he said that Kiehl runs around em and is extremely tough to tackle.. very elusive was a phrase he's heard a lot from guys describing his running style.

He's apparently also extremely accurate when throwing and has a bit more competence in the pocket.

If this kid stays all 4 years at AU, I think he has the potential to be as good, if not better than Newton.

I watched the Under Armor game last week and Kiehl is going to be a beast. Very good runner and passer.

Tues after the game the bama fans in our office all went out to lunch with each other. I guess so they could cry on each others shoulders. One guy was cursing up a storm Tuesday over it. Then did not start talking to people in the office until friday unless it was a fellow bammer. . BTW none of the bammers at work actually went to UA....

I think this is the worst mistake a parent can make. I have never understood this being a factor in a decision for a player. I understand a parent wanting their kid to get out on their own and become adults but it shouldn't be a factor in the kids choice for school, especially as a player.

what i meant was for her to just want him to leave the state is retarded IMO. Especially if his 2 in-state schools just posted b2b titles and b2b heisman winners. i know i'm jumping the gun here without knowing her reason for wanting him to leave the state but it sounds like she just wants him to get out of alabama which makes no sense.

doesn't really bother me though. I'd be lying if I said I didn't wish we had him but we've recruited a ton of talented guys already and losing a couple doesn't mean anything. He's pretty hot headed and doesn't like it when people fuck with his teammates/friends. The Oregon guy had been running his mouth all game and diving at guys knees. Eric put the bastard in his place. Not to mention he's probably the most overrated heisman winner in recent history.Voting was the tightest it had ever been, 3 top quality athletes on the ballot, how was he overrated? He broke a lot of Shaun Alexander's records, and is a shoe-end for 1st RB taken in the draft. Overrated?

What about all the Heisman winners that didn't help their team when it mattered most, in the NC game.

Sure you guys arent just butthurt than Cam's not in the list? Speaking of Fairley, he showed up at the combine out of shape and much smaller than listed, and is considered OVERRATED next to Dareus. /puts on triple layer thick flamesuit.

He probably deserved to be kicked off the team but anytime some keyboard jockey like yourself calls a friend of mine a tool, we're gonna have a problem.

lol, so basically you are telling me we have a problem because I called a friend of yours a tool on a message board for doing "TOOLISH" things. You have a lot of growing up to do...

That or you are going to be extremely tired of defending your "friends" on the internet for no reason.

i have nothing person against the guy because i of coarse don't know him. My point was that he doesn't deserve to be on the team and cause more problems.

He broke a lot of Shaun Alexander's records, and is a shoe-end for 1st RB taken in the draft.

Tim Tebow had an average year in his last campaign. He ended up on the cover.

tebow was on the cover because he is one of the greatest college football players of all time. he can be on it whenever he wants. comparing him in this situation doesn't fit imo.

I think Ingram is a great back and last year would have been good for him (on the cover) but it just doesn't make sense to me this year. he didn't play 2-3 games this year either.

Sure you guys arent just butthurt than Cam's not in the list?

just stop.

does anybody care enough to actually be butthurt about any player not making the cover? I would hope not. Anyways, Cam deserves it of coarse but EA won't chance it since Bush killed it for everyone in the future. Even one of the greatest college players of all time.

At least UGA has won some kind of award. (Fulmer Cup)

I'm excited to see how the defense is this year. I think there will be a signifigant improvement. If UGA can get past Boise St and USCe then i think we'll have a shot at the East.

I was comparing him because another poster said Ingram had a mediocre year, very comparable to Tebow's last year. They each won a NC in there big year, and had less successful follow-up campaigns.... seems like a fit to me. Anyone calling Ingram an overrated Heisman winner is retarded. His NFL career will speak volumes to that.

Tim Tebow has 2 NC's, Heisman Trophy (blow out race), countless awards and is considered one of the greatest ncaa player ever. He can get a pass. Ingram doesn't get that respect. It just doesn't and isn't going to happen. The 2's careers aren't comparable in my eyes.

**Disclaimer - I'm not tebow fan. I don't watch tebow in the NFL. I ddn't pull for him at florida. I just respect his game.

Having said all of that I think Ingram or Murray will get it if it is based on fan voting only. why?

Fairley is a lineman and not many people know him. They just aren't in the spotlight as much. Also everyone thinks he is a dirty player and hates auburn of coarse.

locker? get real...

ingram has bama nation backing him and there are a zillion bama fans.

murray beasted this year in rushing and receiving. I could see him landing it too.

I don't think Ingram was overrated. It was a close Heisman race that year with no clear standout player. I think he deserved the award but he wasn't ''overrated', that would have been if he was a runaway winner.

He's hyped in Alabama of course but I think nationally, he was placed about where he belonged.

Jim Tressel knows about major violations in his program, doesn't tell anyone. 11 Months later the truth comes out that he knowingly withheld information about his players violating NCAA rules.

Gets a slap on the wrist. Akron and Toledo are going to be "very" tough opponents for tOSU to play without the Sweater.

The NCAA is such a joke...

The NCAA hasn't had their say about Tressel's punishment yet; the suspension and fine were what punishments Da Ohio State University imposed on Tressel. Like with Bruce Pearl at UT, the NCAA can increase the fines and the suspension. That one is not over yet.

Ok, i guess i misread the ESPN article.

But hey, with the way the NCAA has been handling things recently, i'd be shocked if they increased the punishment, ESPECIALLY with a cash cow like "THE" OSU.
