A friend of mine let me borrow his 20th Ann GTI while the dually is being work on. Since he is going to sell it I am working on getting it ready. The interior I am very disappointed it, a lot of the fabric is coming off the A pillars and door panels, just hasn't held up well. I am getting all that fixed. The problem I need help with is water getting in somewhere and collecting in the passenger rear floor board. Is there anywhere that those are prone to leak? The car was wrecked on the passenger side so I was thinking maybe the right side rear window, but I don't know how bad it was. Since it has been getting in there for a while, and the car sat for so long it has started to mold. This weekend I was going to try and pull the interior and investigate but before I did that I wanted to see if anyone had any pointers. Thanks.

Clogged sunroof drain. Very common... Clean out the line, cut the nipples slightly bigger, and make sure they are connected completely.

Sounds like he might have clogged sunroof drains. This thread (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1909676) should get you started. If you can't find GTI specific stuff in there, then just go to the VWvortex search function (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerosearch) and search for something along the lines of "sunroof leaks", and be sure to check the "archived content" setting on the right side of the page.

Good luck.

Edit: Tom beat me to it.

Yep, probably sunroof drain.

My interior still looks damn near perfect. He must have had a lot of water in there for a long time.

I am looking at this from my phone, so I am limited to what I can look at. Do I need to pull any of the interior to clean the drains?

The interior is great just the fabric of the door panels, A and B pillars, and sunroof motor cover is coming off. Still in great shape just the glue didn't stick that well it seems. I like the car a lot, like enough I am thinking about buying it. But the more I drive it the more I begin to think it is over priced for the condition it is in. It has like 79k on it, completely stock, with the listed issues, various scratches and a dent in the hood and he wants 8k. IMO I am thinking 6k or so because in needs 2 tires, brakes, and 2 of the wheels have been curbed.

The humidity from the water leak probably caused the fabric to come off.

The drains from what I can see are in the door jamb or behind the car, not in the interior.

If it's been crashed I bet the RH drain was painted over and stuck closed.

That makes sence. I will try that tonight when I get off.

I used some 3M removable adhesive on some of my interior fabric when it started peeling... A year later and it is still holding strong. Sunroof drain or if that doesn't work door seal would be my guess. They're fun little cars, really. :)

Oh snap look at that baller!

My VW interior was near immaculate and never gave me any issues.. not really any rattles either and I had the same mileage. I didn't have a sunroof though.. everything else though is identical (except for colors) as the 20th.

And as far as price goes, to me it would depend on how bad that wreck was. I got $10,000 for my 337 (same car, same milage, but one year older, and no sunroof) but it was in excellent condition, no dents/scratches. IMO they're an incredible bang for the buck.. one of the best buys out there if you don't mind FWD.
