There's a car show on Oct. 27, 2002 if anyone is interested. It is in ATL at the Metropolitan pkwy. across from some car dealership. There will be cash prizes, trophies, radio toss, burn-out, free prizes, etc... Their last show was pretty fun. The prizes were definetly worth the drive. Free interance, $25 to sterio compete, $35 for show, and $20 for the burn-out. Also, if you win the burn-out you get your money back pluse a 4ft. trophy. The club participation trophy is 6ft. tall. There will also be magazine coverage. Let me know what ya'll think.

There will be some ricers out there, yes.... BUT the show will not consist of just rice. There will be a nice selection of cars. It's a compation, not just a show. There's some pretty wild stuff out there sometimes, it's diffinatly interesting to say the least, but I do think that you will enjoy the show. Sometimes they set up races, not like the whole on green go at the drag strips or anything, but it gives you a chance to race some cars that you might not get the chance to otherwise. As far as the club part. trophy, that's cool that you think it's gay, but I personaly love winning whatever it is that do. Pluse, Southern Fantasies/Team Knightmare will be competing. They always win club part. I for one, would LOVE to strip them from their "unbrakable" title.

there are a bunch of rices at any show. Look at the NOPI Nationals. There are a bunch of ricers there, but at the same time there are cars there that make it worth going. I think its going to be pretty good, ATL always represents shawty. W  RD!! Anyway you know you're the biggest ricer there is :P

I like the whole trophy thing. To me it's like sports... why play? Sure it's fun, but isn't it so much more fun when you win the game? I think so, but maybe you think that it's gay. I just like to compete. Of course, if I don't have my new car by the time that the show comes up then I won't be able to show, but I will still be attending one way or another.

well.......obviously you haven't understood anything i said. what i said was "group particapation trophy's are gay".

i will explain: why get a trophy for having the most people....pointless....i like trophies just as much as the next person, but a trophy for that means nothing. i could get every ricer in town ( like team daydream did) and put them in my club and get a trophy for the most people in show. it doesn't mean you got a trophy for the nicest car or fastest car, it just means you have more cars than others. that is what is GAY!!!!

Okay, okay. I knew what you meant, I'm just messing with you. The reason that I think the club part. trophy is a good thing is because it gives more modivation to work as a team instead of an individual. Some people don't need that extra push, but it's good just to have it anyway. Pluse, I used to like being able to say that... Hey, we brought 20 cars and brought home 21 trophies. You've seen my car and most of the other S.F. cars, you know that they need something to be able to boast about. WE (the rice riders) have nothing else. :poke: What the fuck is this?!?!

personally i think trohpies are shit too. It is like when you were 6 and your soccer team sucked donkey balls and you still got a trophy for nothing except kicking a piece of grass 6 ft. It give team whosawhatzit motivation to do better?? That sounds like some senseless propaganda to tell retartded kids. well anyway my tastes have changed a bit over the as little bit and I think nopi is about the only scale of show i can handle (just because of its size, I am not even looking forward to it as much as last year, but i think with al of the ppl it will be fun) I enjoyed HIN but was ot ipressed with anything except aybe one car. So i think this show is probally out for me but who knows.

btw I will be at nopi with flag in hand and ready to be an ass on camera.

Agreed about the trophies, but hey, whatever floats your boat. As far as the ratio between fast and good looking i'm 50/50 there. One without the other is worthless. A car that has thousands of dollars in aesthetic mods and runs a 17 second quarter is a joke. Conversely a car that runs 12's and looks like ass (While far more respectable) is still an incomplete car. An automobile is a work of art as well as a master of its function. To do either poorly is unacceptable. I'd better not get started on this subject because I could write a masters thesis on it.

I play the sport and i compete in the game. I win when i pull ahead of the car that challenges me on the street, track, or where ever. Thats my thing and thats where my trophies are won. They may not be 6ft tall and i may not be able to count all of them, and even though they are not able to be seen, they are there. YO JOE, GI JOE forever baby!!!

You guys are really taking this trophy thing way too seriously. I completly agree about the whole, going fast and looking good thing though. I compete because it's fun, to me. And I don't do it for anyone else. All I have is that peice of shit neon. You guys have alittle more to work with than I do. Your car can be your trophy, my ego is mine. If you think that trophies are gay, good for you. I don't, therefore I compete to win, and if a trophy is the prize, so be it, because it will be on my mantle not yours.[/quote]

I totally agree matt .....except that i think it is moe 75 performance and 25 looks to me now......hence the reason for me selling all my gay outward apperance mods except for my tires, rims, and coilovers which serve a function. but i do think a car should look "nice" and be fast at the same time to be a totally sound car!

I was told that I could tell. I'm not sure but wouldn't my tires sit more into the fender wells?

Yes, you can tell. It's called after you go over a bump your car continues bouncing. All you have to do is bottom out your shock and they are gone. No your tires won't sit more into the fender wells unless you cut the bumpstops.

grizoove
09-05-2002, 05:08 PM
Actually I have a factory blown shock at my house so your welcome to drop by and i can show you. It will still depress if it took a bump but it doens't come back out without me pulling it out of the casing...hencforth the shit doens't work.

SweetLikeCandy
09-05-2002, 05:57 PM
My car doesn't continue to bounce after a bump, but then again I try to avoid most bumps if at all possible. I don't think that they are blown, but it makes no difference now if they are or not. The neon....is gone.

Question.... I took out the back seat of my car and replaced it with two 12" speakers and box. (I know....doesn't do a thing for performance). Anyway, what could I take out (besides the speakers,) to bring the weight back down? The box and all is about 50 or more pounds, I'm quessing. Or will that even make a big enough difference to worry about?

Are any of you guys going to the show in Oct. ?

grizoove
09-05-2002, 06:13 PM
ummmm actually your car does keep bouncing after you hit a bump...your just used to it so you dont notice it.

on the weight reduction. what does it matter if the neon is gone. you do reduction for performance and not to make up for excess weight...but you can pull your passenger seat out, all the interior panels, pull out the carpet, the deck (that would negate the speakers), sound deadning material, tar, washer fluid, air conditioning, jack, spare tire, springs, steering wheel, anything you dont need *cough*subs.

or just ask brock or blake on what they all pulled out. I like my interior so i dont know first hand.

ps i was just joking about the springs and the steering wheel.

Great weigt reduction ideas:

1. lighter weight oil
2. lower octane gas, because octane is very heavy.
3.You can also cut your timing belt in half, which reduces the rotating mass and shit.
4. Instead of using a valve cover, try saran wrap.
5. remove your power steering system. I hear it gives you better grip.
6. Brake rotors are heavy. Use frisbees whenever possible in conjunction with cork based brake pads
7. Speakers - while they are heavy, they can be used as performance mods IF AND ONLY IF they are pointed towards the rear. They act as propultionary devices. A larger muffler can also do this. The more air you push out, the faster your car goes, duh.
8. Any screw on caps can be replaced with a sandwich bag and a rubber band.
9. Instead of using steel brake lines, try using twizzlers or pixie stix
10. If your car is equipped with a turbo charger, its just their to make noise, remove it. It looks like a snail for a reason, cuz it slows you down.
12. Helium balloons are great. Look into installing a helium bladder into your headliner.

eSpyder99
09-05-2002, 07:44 PM
13. Make sure you've topped off your headlight fluid as well. It does add a little weight, but it's neccessary. Get the Helium fluid instead of the Halogen kind, it's lighter.

BTW, Jess did you leave out #11 for weight reduction?

The only time that my interior will be stripped is when it's getting upholstered or something. Let's forget about the mistake, oh, I mean the neon. I want a nice or at least decent car that looks good and goes fast. If I can afford to get intake before upholstering, I will and vise-versa. I see cars as a project/hobbie, it doesn't matter to me how many times I have to correct a mistake made of a mod. or how long it takes to become comfortable with my car, I'm more than willing. It's a learning experience. Now that I've had my time experimenting on the neon, I think that I'm ready to get serious.

what is the point of getting it upholstered its not a couch.

So what are you looking at getting. I would look hard at this determine exactly what you want the car to do and think of a plan on how to get there. Plans never work out like the original...I switch ideas all the time. But I have never regretted a mod that i have made ( except maybe the blue interior) the hubcaps were hilarious IMO. I have what I wanted out of the suspension work that i have done (there is still more)..and my car is the way i want it to look on the exterior. It is important that you plan ahead a little bit so you get things that work well together and compliment each other. you will be happier with the semi planning in the long run. It will save you time and money. You have a slight plan...I would work on developing it further before you start sending it in to get it upholstered or just slap an electric supercharger on there.

SweetLikeCandy
09-05-2002, 08:15 PM
I have more plans, but they are more questionable right now than definate. Just using the upholstering as a "look good" example. I would like to continue looking for other cars, even though I'm pretty sure that I know what I want. I should probably keep my options open right now while I'm saving up for the go-fast mods. I know that it's alot to ask, but I would really like someone who knows a bit about stock motors to come look at some of my top 5 choices with me. This way I can get someone elses opinion on what they think should or could be done sense I don't know too much about all of that.

The price is not better than the neon. Besides, (no ofense) I don't drive hondas. Everyone has one. I want a car that everyone pretty much laughs at so I can try to make it look....and run so well that people will think twice about the car. That's why I like neons. People have them, but never do anything with them.
Don't get me wrong, if I could get a REALLY good deal on one that I like, I would jump on it. The problem is that I'm only 17, and I can't get my hands on that much all at one time. Maybe 2500, but that's pushing it. The lude looks good though.

neons suck. i saw a running 88 civic 4dr in the paper today, new head and some other crap. $1000 obo, thats your best place to start. If you're looking to spend $2500...

$800 - haggle car price
$500 - used wheels & tires
$100 - aem knock off CAI off ebay
$300 - headers
$300 - exhaust
$500 - shocks and springs

or $800 for car and spend the rest on a non-intercooled turbo setup and upgrade the exhaust later, and get some good headlight fluid

Here's what you should do for weight reduction
1. Remove all the seats but drivers
2. Pull up the carpet and remove the sound deading material under it
3. Put no more than a half tank of gas in your car
4. Remove your windshield washer fluid and resovoir
5. Remove your dash
6. Remove center console
7. Remove door panels
8. Change (if you have it) power door locks and power windows to manual
9. Remove trunk panels including anything on the trunk lid
10.Remove center console around shifter
11.Remove AC
12.Remove heater and core
13.Remove spare tire and jack
14.Remove bumper supports (not recommended)
15.Take off all the heat shields on your exhaust
16.Remove ABS (not recommended)
17.Remove Airbags(not recommended)
18.Remove headliner
19.Remove A-pillar panels
20.Remove e-brake and cables (not recommended)
21.Remove head unit, amps, speakers, and all wiring for it
22.Remove rear windshield wiper (if you have it)

That's all I can think of right now. It is not my responsibility if anything happens to you or your car if you do any of the above. I will leave it at your discretion as to what you do and how far you take each one. I have marked the ones I WOULD NOT remove, but again that is your choice.

Neon...you have already experienced this so why not try something different.

Saturn.........NO, stop that

Civic...they are ok, but trust me they are slow (can be quick though)

Integra=lots of potential.

So I would say go with one of the two Honda's. you will get honda reliablitly and the aftermarket world that you can only dream about with a neon. Saturns are phat!

An SC2 running 14s is do-able. as long as you're talking 0-16 times, or how many people will laugh at it per/hour.

Dont try to start a new fad, invest in a car that is proven go take to mods well and not fall apart. thats just my 2 cents. Id say go with a civic or teg because of the aftermarket support. Edit: oh yeah, ludes are cool too. 3rd gen +b series engine swap or if you got the money, a 4g with an H22

GREAT NEWS!!!!

My grandparents want to get me a grad. present and my mother told them that she would if she didn't have to help me buy a car. Well, my grandparents said that they would take out a loan for us and we could slowly pay them back! New car, here I come!

I might be able to afford the lude after all, but if I was to do that......Sorry guys, but I wouldn't be l.b.2.

Fuck the neon!!!! Give me a......... well, something better that's for sure.

You need something with tamper-proof fasteners on it.

I just got off the phone with my grandparents....

mom's taking out the loan, which means that it won't be for as much. We'll see what happens. If I end up with another neon, oh well. At least I'm used to them.....right?

I talked to my mom, and Jimmy........she wants to see and test drive the lude!!!!!!

My grad. present is not a car, it's a loan for a car. I have to pay back every cent. This way they feel like they actually got me something without really doing so. It's cool though, b/c either way I still get a car.

Well... If she wants to get in touch w/ Jimmy about the lude this can be done through PM's not the board...

Aside from that... I think everything that could be said about this topic or anything that it brought up has been said....
