==================================================================================================================
Up for sale is my rare 1991 Isuzu Impulse RS Turbo AWD. These are fairly rare cars. Approximately 800 cars were brought to Canada and USA in 1991 only, making it a rare car indeed. It seems that half of the cars wound up in Canada. The car is fairly complex and loaded with ammenities for a car of this size and class. It has a 1.6L 4-cylinder twin cam engine, code named 4XE1-WT, with factory piston oil squirters, external oil cooler setup with OE remote oil filter location, top mount intercooler, and a IHI RBH5 series turbo. The engine is rated at 160hp and 150ft-lbs and a 7200rpm redline. The suspension is tuned by Lotus, with struts, springs, and sway bars specific to the AWD Impulses only. This car in particular has all options available in 1991: power package (power windows with one touch auto down feature for driver's window, power door locks, power sunroof, and anti-theft system), ABS, driver's Airbag, cruise control, "premuim" sound system with graphic equalizer, fog lights, and intermittent wipers. The car still has the factory charge of R12 in the AC system and still blows cold.
I have had this car since May 2009. I purchased it with 111k miles on it. Currently it has 116k miles on it. The previous owner told me he had done lots of service to the car, which turned out to be a big lie. Since this was my daily driver, I had no choice but to spend lots and lots of money tracking down parts, some used and some new OEM Isuzu parts, to fix alot of problems.
Here is the list of items I have since fixed or replaced. I do have all Isuzu order/ship paperwork for all OEM Isuzu parts purchased.
new front left wheel bearing from AutoZone
new Kumho Ecsta AST 205/50R15 tires all around (stock size), roadforce balanced and 4-wheel alignment performed
new Isuzu front brake pads and hardware
new BeckArnley rear brake pads
all rotors resurfaced
new Isuzu power steering suction hose
new remaned power steering pump (have old as core)
new Isuzu washer resevoir cap
new Isuzu valve cover gasket
new Isuzu rubber cam seal for intake cam (end of head at tranny side)
resealed oil pan
new National passenger front cv axle seal at transfer case
new Isuzu timing belt
new Isuzu cam seals
new Isuzu crank oil seal
new Isuzu front right axle boot and grease kit
new Isuzu front left inboard cv axle boot and grease kit
new Isuzu PCV (have about 9 more, only ships in packs of 10)
new Isuzu strut to knuckle bolts (have a bunch more since they ship in multiples)
new Isuzu CAS (still have old one)
new BeckArnley idle air control valve
used FORGE blowoff valve
new Isuzu exhaust manifold to head gasket
new Isuzu exhaust manifold studs
new Isuzu turbo-to-manifold studs and nuts
new Isuzu o2 housing-to-turbo gasket, studs and nuts
new Isuzu o2 housing-to-cat housing gasket
new Isuzu turbo water inlet and outlet hoses
new Isuzu copper o-rings for oil and water inlets/outlets (have more)
new Isuzu oil drain tube gasket (have more since they came in packs of 10)
new Isuzu steel o-ring gasket for cat housing-to-front exhaust tube
new Isuzu thermostat and gasket
spark plugs cleaned and regapped to .028"
new RTR spark plug wires
new K&N air filter
factory rear strut housings modified to accept 1988 Toyota MR2 front strut inserts (have KYB GR-2 in it now) by RTR
new KYB strut mounts front and rear
fixed the cruise control system
about 90% of vacuum lines have been changed out
fixed the factory theft alarm system
used good working driver's master window switch with one-touch auto down feature for driver's window
all new fluids (powersteering, coolant, engine, transmission, transfer case, rear diff)
new Isuzu carrier bearings (has 2 since it's a 3-piece shaft)
carrier bearing rubber insulators are filled with silicone to stiffen them up
had rear driveshaft u-joints serviced at local driveline shop in December
sealed low beams coverted to H4 units using Autopal lamps
sealed high beams converted to H1 units using Autopal lamps
new Isuzu right side tail lamp assembly
powder coated the valve cover in wrinkle red finish
Parts that I have not installed yet:
used good transfer case
new Isuzu rear fascia decal "TURBO INTERCOOLED/ALL-WHEEL DRIVE"
The good:
Fully functional RARE car, does not burn oil, no fluid leaks whatsoever. Low mileage for the age. Turbo has very minimal shaft play, spools up nicely, and nice sounding FORGE blowoff valve. AC, cruise, theft-deterent, power windows, power door locks still work. Has alot of new geniune Isuzu parts. New tires, brakes, alignment, and 3-piece rear drive shaft serviced. Car is basically in stock form with the exception of the valve cover, rear modified struts, and fart can muffler installed by previous owner. The engine starts up easily, idles perfectly and pulls to redline smooth and hard. Transmissions shifts very smooth with no grinding of any gears.
The bad:
front fenders recieved hack-job from previous owner attempting to repair dented fenders
sunroof does not work, have diagnosed the sunroof motor as the culprit
dash board is cracked
AIRBAG light stays on
ABS light stays on, the front ABS sensors are broken from previous owner performing a hack job installing incorrect axles
previous owner installed a junky Sunpro boost/vacuum gauge that sticks sometimes
needs inner tie rod boots
speedometer head makes noise when very cold outside
transfer case is noisy
horn does not work, anti-theft horn still works tho
