View Full Version : Anyone Have a 16" Wheel I Can Borrow?

I am looking to see if I a 16" wheel will clear the front brakes on my car (I have my doubts but want to be 100% sure). I am not wanting to buy anything, just borrow the wheel and see if it will bolt up without a problem, the lighter the better.
It would have to be a 5x4.5" (5x114.3mm) bolt pattern.
I would like it as close to a 16x8" as possible to see if it will clear some other items but this is not hard and fast. Also, offsets from +24mm to +46mm would be best as well.
If you have something I can use for my test, please let me know.

Afaik, fd wheels are the only 16"s that clear evo brakes so they should be a promising place to start. But they're probably not strong enough, lol.

On the Stealth? That's gonna be a tough one... I don't know that anyone has ever put 16'' wheels on a car with 2G brakes.

Is it the right bolt pattern? If so, can I give it a try?

Thanks for the tip man. You know any one in Auburn that has an Evo who would be willing to let me borrow a stock wheel that I could contact?

Yeah, on the Stealth; but, it is not for me, it is for the race car. I know a guy (Rusty (91stealthrt2 on 3Si & NW3S), not sure if you know him too) who said he put stock 16's over a set of 2G TT brakes (he had put on his R/T) but the calipers had to be modified slightly (shaved). I think that stock 16" wheels may be a bit narrower on the inside diameter than most aftermarket wheels which is what I want to try. I took a base measurement between the most narrow point of my wheels (17") and the caliper and had a little more than 1/2" clearance in excess so I think it is worth the try.

I have a set of FD wheeels that you could use to test, but the problem would be in getting to it.
They are located in a friend's garage that lives about 2 miles down a dirt road outside of Lanett. Let me know how desparate you get and I'll see what I can do.

Thanks Dixon, I'll let you know if I can't find something local. I appreciate the offer.

Not a stock evo wheel. A stock FD rx7 wheel. Evos have 17x8s the rx7 wheels are 16x8.

Sorry man, I misread your statement in my haste. Thanks for the correction.

Kind of covered already, but worth stating that not every 16" wheel is the same and some might clear when others don't.
Maybe check out any 3G forums from up north, I'm sure some people get snow tires on these bad boys and want to get smaller wheels if possible

Thanks Charlie, yeah, I'm kind of banking on the fact that not all 16's will have the same dimensions. But, I need to try some to know if it is even a remote possibility.
3G forums? You mean 3S forums? I have asked a similar question (will it work?) on 3Si (http://www.3si.org/forum/f41/16-wheel-clears-2nd-gen-brakes-recommendations-506557/) with worse results than this group has provided.

Oh yea, the FD wheels need a 20mm spacer on the front for the evo. So that might be necessary for your app too.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to hit everyone up after the break. I have too many things going down this week to be able to give it a try.
