Well I have had my i7 chilling in a box for about a year and half now and finally ordered necessary shiznit to piece together the machine.

Parts:

GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R

12gb Mushkin DDR3 1600 RAM

COOLER MASTER Silent Pro M700
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171037

Antec 900 Case

For now I will just use the nVidia GTS 240 out of a Dell XPS that I had laying around until I want to drop some coin on a couple of GTX when they drop in price a little.

And of course the i7 940.

All in all I have spent about $450 bucks out of pocket, thanks to a xmas gift card and some good deals from my Best Buy employee discount.

This machine will last me longer that I need it to and will be upgradable for a long time.

In regular terms he has built a badass computer. The i7 processor is currently the fastest one out. So basically its like building a turbo'd car but in a computer form. Lots of possibilities with that system, especially video/photo editing.

You know Rick, depending on the video card you choose, you have a perfect hackintosh system. Mine works as perfectly as a real mac pro other than you have to watch the forums for OS updates and give it a few days before you update. So far I have not had one single issue updating and my update "mod" consists of checking 1 box in the multibeast utility after it updates, but before it reboots.

Anyway, check it out, your system would be perfect for it as long as you select a supported video card of which there are probably a hundred. Your motherboard even has a DSDT database which means you have to fool with essential zero extra kexts.

DSDT database and where you can read up on what exactly a DSDT is, etc.

This stuff takes just a little reading to understand the basics. Basically you want iboot burned on a CD and multibeast on a usb jump drive or something. I literally booted off the iboot disc, inserted OSX, installed, upgraded to the latest version using the combo update, and then ran multibeast. Simple as pie.

^^This

Yeah my plans for this build were going to be strictly gaming since I got a legit copy of Windows 7 Ultimate for dog cheap (<$10). But once I was starting to piece it together I saw the hackintosh possibilities especially with a family pack of Snow Leopard laying around. In a couple of weeks I will be getting a 120gb SSD and dual booting OSX and Win 7 I think. I passed the iMac down to the fiance so I will need my mac fix somehow :).
