I have a 93 prelude Si shell with a JDM H22A motor in it. About 5 to 6 months ago the alternator died (replaced it) then the battery died. I replaced the battery that was in it with a Optima Yellow top which was completely drained in about a month. I charged it and about a month later again, it was completely drained. A few days after that my alternator died again (replaced again). The cycle repeated and now I have an Everstart battery in there and still having the same problems. I have been through 3 alternators and batteries in recent months. Ive checked all wiring, grounds appear good, there is no stereo in the car, not even a head unit, no special wiring, and the battery is in stock location. A buddy of mine who works on Hondas says he thinks the Electronic Load Detector is going bad on it so I need to run a smaller battery with fewer amps. Ive searched but my problem does not seem to have the same symptoms as an ELD going bad. Any suggestions??

Sounds like a draw which is overworking the alternator. Does it have a separate voltage regulator?

I'd put an amp meter on it (most cheap multimeters can do this), you do this by connecting the meter between the disconnected battery and the battery cable. Pull your hood light and dome lights if you have them, and leave the key off.

Then let it sit and see how many amps it is drawing. If it is > 1 amp you have a major draw somewhere, you can try and pinpoint it by pulling fuses until it goes away.

basically what Charlie said.. and you can put your meter on and start pulling fuses from the box till the meter shows a drop in current flow and that will help you pinpoint the area that's causing you the problems..
