So who has them and what have you done to overcome them.

I have reconstructed right shoulder after a catastrophic failure due to a football injury.

For the last 3 months I have been going to Crossfit and some demons that I never addressed are starting to rear their ugly head with the intensity of the work outs.

Of note I am having some problems with my lower back where it will sometimes pop as I fully straighten my spine which usually leads to a loud audible tick noise and then a moment of tingling in my right leg.

It also appears that an old right knee injury has come back with wings, horns, and a pitch fork.

Man I sound old.

I am just curious what you guys out there have done to treat your injuries and get past them while staying fit.

It's a love hate thing but I have had good results with a Chiropractor.

I have a bulged disc, minor but it led to a pinched nerve for awhile and the pain was unbearable. I went to a bunch of doctors but they were hopeless and the Chiropractor sorted it out. I haven't been in a year or so but I feel like it helped me a lot.

For those of you with low back pain, start using a basic ab wheel. Just a rod with a simple wheel, no spring loaded BS. Give it two weeks and your back pain will more than likely be history for good. Low back issues run in my family and starting around 20 I had low back pain and tingling in one leg. As soon as I started doing my ab wheel and strengthening my abs, it was toast and hasn't been back since. Your abs are actually key in providing support to your lower back. Give it a shot, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

+1 for a great chiropractor. The stigma is crack crack crack your bones, but in reality, the adjustments are usually low impact.

i fell off a bicycle four years ago and bulged a disc, had surgery and the pain never came back. i do get a tingle on occasion, but being active helps to prevent it. i need to continue to lose a lot more weight but thats something that will take as long to take off as it did to put on.

Blew out my knee in HS had medial and lateral miniscus (SP?) tears, they went in and repaired it and took out a bunch of cartilage. Still have issues with it. Also have lower back issues. Yes I am getting old and feel it.

+1 for strengthening abs. I've been working with a personal trainer for the last 8 weeks. She has me doing abs every time I go into the gym (which is usually 5 days a week) and my back already feels way better. Along with losing about 30lbs during the last 12 weeks, I'm feeling pretty good. Still got 70lbs to go but I haven't lost any in the last couple of weeks. I'm just kinda stuck on a plateau from a lot of travel, stress/busyness, and not eating 100% like I should. I will get back on track this week.

Most of my injuries in the past have been pulled muscles. I've always just worked through them and they have gotten better. I've been blessed with not having joint problems outside of some gout flair-ups a few years ago. I am on a drug for that and haven't had an outbreak since summer of 2009; as my activity has increased, along with a better diet, my uric acid concentrations have decreased so we are working on cutting back on the allopurinol dose.

I have been injury free(well, at least from any lingering injuries) my entire life until about 6~7 months ago. I had been deadlifting quite heavy for 3~4 months on my 3x8 routine and was going for broke on my last set. I pulled 425lbs for 8 reps, but the last rep was a damn monster and when I set the weight down, it felt like the muscle had tied itself into a pretzel on the lower part of my back on the left side. My damn back still hurts to this day in that same spot. Anytime I bend over to put on shoes, pick up something, etc...it hurts(not terribly, more like nags). I was thinking bulged disc? However, I have absolutely 0 pain anywhere else and no shooting pain down either of my legs. Also, as long as I don't lift anything for a while, it gets better, but never goes away. I need to see either a doctor or chiropractor about it as this has gone on too long and I am tired of dealing with it(I won't lie, I kept doing exercises that involved my lower back for 5 of the past 6/7 months. It wasn't direct work though)

Other than that, the right part of my groin has gotten sore pretty much out of nowhere. For some reason my running routine is causing it. I can't for the life of me figure out why(I have severely backed off the running), but it has been sore for the past 2 months or so without getting any better.

I have been back and forth to doctors for the past three months and have another two months of profile for my military duty.

I hurt my back some how or another. My lower back tightens when I run any distance...its a profound sensation that makes it nearly impossible to run the next day and painful to walk.

hoping to get some results from rehabbing, medication, rest, and light work outs.

That's is not bad advice at all and in most cases it will fix lowere back pain. In my case however I know ab strength is not my problem. Ab workouts are a part of our daily routine and most movements we do include some sort of ab strengthening component.

Oh man, that sounds just like my bulged disc. It won't cause shooting pains unless it pinches a nerve. I'd definitely get it checked out.

So your chiropractor was able to fix you up? Was he able to get you to a pain free point or just substantially better? Trying to see if a doc or chiro would be the best route.

I got a hairline fracture in my neck in 8th grade from football. Was going for a tackle and got tripped up by a blocker, forcing my head down as I impacted the ballcarrier. Thankfully it was spring training when it happened so I didn't miss any games but it took a couple months of rehab to get it completely healed. Doctors told me I had to wear a neck brace for the rest of my career if I wanted to play but by 11th grade I ended up taking it off because it was beginning to affect my mobility as a pulling guard.

Over the past two to three years that injury has started to show itself again and I don't know why. I'm just too stubborn to get it checked out. A few days ago I woke up and I guess I stretched something wrong and my neck felt just like it did when I injured it originally. I couldn't bend my neck to the right at all. Over the next couple of days it started to get better, but it sucked that this happened while I was at the casino and I couldn't break out the 'ol rice sock like I usually do when this happens.

Besides that, I can't really say I have any other nagging injuries. I've been lucky to not have any broken bones considering how much I played sports when I was younger. The only other significant injury I ever had was when I pulled my front quadricept in my left leg during preseason training my junior year. That wasn't fun.

I will say that my legs get pretty restless when I stand or sit still long enough (an hour or so). It feels weird because I feel like nobody else around me has this issue. If I ride in the back of a vehicle for awhile I literally have to prop my legs up on the passenger beside me to stretch my legs out to get rid of the pain. Don't know what's up with that, but I've had this problem since I was little.

I've suffered from lower back pain for a long time which I thought was simply due to scoliosis but it finally culminated into a fully blown back injury one night after doing a lot of heavy dead lifts and squats.

it felt like someone had a knife in my lower back twisting it every time I inhaled too deeply or moved in the wrong way. I was on the couch on pain killers with an electric blanket and ice packs for 2 days straight and when i finally was able to get to the back doctor, he told me I had pulled the hell out of one side of my lower back.

One side?? Turns out I also have Spondylolisthesis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spondylolisthesis) and as a result, my lower back muscles have grown to slightly different lengths. Excess strain from the heavy lifting combined with a weak core resulted in pulling the shorter side.

before the injury though I had always had a nagging lower back ache that wasn't ever bothersome at work if I got up and walked around every few hours but I had a hard time sitting through movies at the theater without shifting around a lot.

At therapy, they focused solely on ham string stretching and strengthening my core.

2 years later, I have ZERO back pain and 3 nights a week do a couple minutes of ham string stretching after my workouts. I've focused more on core strength at least 1 night of the week (typically the calves/abs night) and to date, I haven't had a single problem and sitting through long movies or long rides in the car no longer bother me.

The only thing that DOES bother me is the fact that I've broken both of my arms twice and when doing heavy preacher curls with the EZ curl bar, I can feel my left arm (the one that sustained the worst break) aching.

Doing dumbell preacher curls don't hurt so I'm assuming that it's the confined motion that the EZ curl bar sets for my wrists that makes it hurt.

The preacher curl is notorious for causing pain in the wrists, forearms, and elbows whether you have broken your arms or not. Stick with dumbells and get better range of motion as well as more specific targeting of the muscle. One good thing the preacher curl is good for is burn outs w/ negatives at the end.

well, the thing I like about the ez curl preach curls is the amount of isolation and control over the form. I always do numerous different types of sets when doing arms/back but I feel like the ez curl on the preacher bench FORCES me to utilize only my biceps. there's no way to cheat.

If I'm doing standing ez bar curls, I always stand with my back against a support column in the room so that I can't move around or cheat with my body/shoulders.

Last night for example, after a few lat workouts, standing barbell rows, bent over dumbell rows and after machine preacher curl reverse pyramid drop sets, I went to the ez curl preacher curls and did 4 more drop sets. It wasn't until those preacher curls that I started to feel my wrist aching.

On the other hand, it wasn't until then that I also really started to feel the upper biceps reaching total fatigue. I've mixed up the order of my arm workouts before and just like last night, those preacher curls always drain my energy the fastest.

Get a dumbell and do this:

http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Brachialis/DBPreacherCurl.html
or
http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Brachialis/DBStandingPreacherCurl.html

mixed with this

http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Brachialis/DBProneInclineCurl.html

and this

http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Brachialis/DBConcentrationCurl.html

Sprinkle some hammer curls in there as a replacement for some of these exercises at least once a week and you will have all the bicep lifts you will ever need.

Drew

I already do all of that and then some (standing cable curls, incline bench cable curls)

They all work my arms just a little differently from each other but the ezcurl is the one movement that can really put a hurting (good hurt) on the very top inside of my bicep.
