Just did my timing belt, water pump, etc today....the crank pulley nut is officially the hardest bolt to remove ever. It took a 3ft 1/2" drive with a 5ft metal cheater bar and a 145lb man HANGING from the bar(motor was in back of truck) before it finally broke loose. 2 500 ft/lb impact guns did absolutely nothing. Anyways, I made that bolt my bish, now I just have to get it re-tq'ed at the same place...should be fun.

did OB just say "mes"?

retourqe it with the impact wrench? If i'm not mistaken, the torque specs on that bolt are somewhere in the 119-122 ft/lbs range.

My crank bolt was a nightmare too. For my 5 hp gains from the underdrive pulleys, I slaved over my engine for no less than 4 hours. An entire can of PB blaster was dedicated to taht little bastard. and being an auto, I didn't have the luxury of just popping it into gear to take it off nice and easily. ooohh no, that crank turned with the ratchet. and no impact gun in sight.

I ended up removing the radiator and fan, putting the belt back on to try and hold the crank pulley. Then used 2 pair of vice grips on the belt that would help catch on the pulleys, had a friend with a crobar jammed between the engine block and the pulley putting pressure on it and me and another guy with a cheater bar no less than 3 feet long shouting obsceneties that would make dennis rodman blush. It came off and antisieze was generously applied for reinsertion.

My crank pulley bolt method:

1. Removed flywheel cover.
2. Find something to jam in there (I used and allen wrench)
3. 1/2inch breaker bar and a long pipe.
4. Man beast power from my massive biceps :P (ok or mine was just easier than most)

I had it re-tq'ed to 140 ft/lbs, hope it is enough.

Hondas are always a bitch, 'cause the reverse rotation engine is always tightening that damn bolt.
