Not the actual car.

That's right. A 1985 CRX Si, the first year of the Si and fuel injection in a CRX. It has a road blistering 91hp 1.5liter. It's also the lightest CRX Si weighing in at only 1,890lbs. It's still slow but they ran mid to low 16's back in the day. It doesn't have double wishbone suspension either. Solid rear beam with torsion bars up front. I can lower dis biatch stock yo!

Yeah I know its not the best CRX techincally, but I already have an R so I thought it be neat to have something a tad different. Everyone has a 2nd Gen CRX for obvious reasons (easy to swap, double wishbone suspension). It's also several 100lbs lighter so thats a plus and shocks are really cheap as are springs since you only need two  . Integra brakes are a direct bolt-on (not even steering knuckles are needed) and they are only $30 per caliper at Autozone. Plus it has a really cool 80's star wars style box interior :P .

I've already contacted the guy to have him hold the car. It's not a definite yet as I still need to actually get the loan , but there is a decently good chance. Only drawback is that its in Oklahoma, but I'll manage (Greyhound, plane, or road trip).

Car has a fresh paint job, has been stripped down and is rust free, no leaks, never been wrecked, dash is in REALLY good shape (saw pics), engine runs strong and doesn't smoke, new clutch and timing belt recently, AC and heater work. Only real problems are the right CV clicks and the sunroof switch wiring is broke, but it still works if you mess with the wires. He'll also give me an extra set of stock rims (R compounds for dem yo). Current asking price is $1,300 which doesn't sound bad IMO.

Not a chick magnet, but it should be a nice fun car to play with and drive to work and back in. Any opinions are welcome until I get the loan that is.

Man, its not worth going out there for that car. Maybe to FL or GA but not Oklahoma. Get a 240 or something for the same price.

About being different: The bandwagon stuff is only on the internet, don't worry about it. VWs seem to be really popular, but I hardly ever see a car like mine on the road.

What happens when you go out there and it turns out to be a real POS? Im sure you can find a EF for the same price that will have more potential.

If you want to go fast AND be different, get a dodge omni GLH.

I see all of your points and they make sense but...

1. A one way plane ticket is very cheap. I could probably fly out there for $50. I've actually flown to Ok City (the town where it is located is a suburb of it) from here on a prop plane and I think it was less than $120 round trip.

2. I don't want to be different. I just wouldn't mind having something that is different if that makes any sense. Basically I won't be getting it to be cool because no one will give a crap about a CRX. I just figured I already have the basis of the double wishbone chassis honda and it might be neat to play around with something a little old school.

3. It's on the cheap end of my budget which will allow me to pay it off in 2-3 months and thats just that much quicker I can resume dumping cash into the R. Since they are harder to mod for strait line speed will be kinda nice, since I've been telling myself I don't need to be worrying about strait line speed with two cars. The R is fast enough for what I want to use it for and the CRX should have plenty of power for daily driving while getting good gas mileage to boot. The mods to braking and suspension will be for terms of safety and security more than anything. Heck I might not even touch the suspension if the shocks are fine.

Too much money, too far away. If you really want to do something old school and not bandwagon, pick up a old school accord hatch or a 2nd gen prelude. You can find those everywhere for cheap.

I've owned 3 dx's and 1 si. 2 dx's were '85s 1dx was an '87 and the si was an '86 The 86-87's front ends looked a little better than the 85's. I had less than 2K in all 4 cars  When I bought them the only running one was the Si. One of the dx's was a lumber jacks car, he really drove it all up in the woods, so I sold all of them except this car, jacked up the torsion bars, bolted down 4 of those cheap "KC lites" and headed off into the trails with it, eventually one night we got it so stuck we blew it up trying to get it out, and just left it, I didn't care, I made around 3K profit on the other cars, so I wasn't worried about it. Moral of the story? Hmmm, it did good in the woods!

I didn't think $1,300 was too much for a car in apparent great condition inside and out, with no rust.

You guys know Ok isn't THAT far away. Only 800mi (about 12hrs with stops) and I've already been there before so. I've driven to Arkansaw and BACK in the same day from here so a one way road trip won't be anything.

You guys aren't getting the whole "different" concept. I don't want it for not being in a Bandwagon. I want it to expand my car experience a touch since it has different quirks and suspension setup. I already know the basic current honda chassis which hasn't changed much since 1988 and I have a pretty darn good version of it so I was just going to try something a little new for a change of pace. I wouldn't be thinking about one if they weren't so cheap.

If I don't get this I'll probably go with an EG, 240SX or 2nd Gen Integra, but they cost a little more to find one in decent shape (well around here there can be exceptions). Thanks for the input so far though.

It sounds like a good idea to me. Offer him $1000 and i bet he'd take it. A car that old with working AC has obviously been taken real good care of. White letter tires are pimp too 8)

If you are wanting to broaden your knowlege, why go with another Honda? Pick a different make if you can afford it, if money is an issue I'd buy it because $1,300 is a good investment for reliable transportation. Hell I've got $2K tied up in my 2ndgen Teg and all it does is take up a space in the parking lot usually. Here lately I've been driving it because everything else is broke, but I've only put 2K miles on it since buying it in July and most of those miles are driving to Huntsville and back.

Cheap, reliable, and good gas mileage. It's not the same chassis or type of engine, so from my standpoint its a different car.

Well it looks like I might listen to you guys and tell the guy to not wait on me. I found a 1986 CRX Si with less miles and its the original owner, which is always a plus. It's also in GA which is a touch closer :P . The only thing is the 86's are about 70lbs heavier, but they do have side impact door beams which is more safe (not that a wreck in any CRX is a good idea).

you got it backwards. thats the 1300cc version of the metro as well, not the (in)famous 3banger. pretty swank setup too, non interference doch 1300cc's revs the hell on up, in a lightweight chassis (too bad its been associated with metros over here). They race in SCCA as well (& are fairly competitive)

Ira has a suzuki swift, I drove it for a few days last month, it was a fun car. Its the GT-I model, dohc 1.6 or 1.8, felt pretty good I must say!
