View Full Version : What could I get for my car if I sold it.
Im thinking of selling my lude in favor of a 240 & SR20DET swap.
I put together a little setup page for my 'lude. If you have a second, could you estimate what I could get for it?
P.S. yeah, i know the indiglo gauges look ghey, look past that :)

I know nothing of the prices...have you checked the blue book prices? or maybe ask jimmy.
SCC had a write up on how to build a $3000 silvia...cant remember which issue.
ps. where have you been the past week or so?

I've had my hand stuck in the lint catcher thing on the dryer. I havent been able to move. please send someone to help me. im typing with my toes.
I've just been feeling like shit cuz my job is kicking my ass, so ive been sleeping any chance I get.
That article in SCC is what gave me the whole idea. Ive been reading it almost daily and checking out a lot of SR20DET swaps on the net.
I think im going to slowly put the lude back to stock and sell all of the sound shit and prolly the ZEX kit too, then sell that mofo. Hopefully around January. In the meantime, i need to pay off some bills and find a cheap S13 with good tranny/suspension. Preferably with a running motor, so i can blow it up :)
I'll try to make it out there next tuesday if im feelin aight

I'd take the Nitrous off to sell it. That's just my opinion. Car looks nice and you could probably get a decent amount for it.
My picks of cars to look at.
1. AWD DSM
2. Mitsubishi Conquest/Starion
3. AE86 Corrolla GTS Hatchback
4. Older civic hatch with mild engine swap
5. 240SX
6. Foxbody Stang
My top 3 pics out of ActiveAero's Top 6 pics

I like the AWD DSM idea, but the initial cost would be more than im looking to spend. Im a cheap bastard.

You would be suprised how cheap they are. If your looking for a 1G (90-94), they shouldn't be hard to find at all. I was talking to a guy at MMP and he said he was trying to sell his '95 GSX for $7,000 and it only had 80,000 miles on it, hopefully I'll run into him again.
Actually, I wonder if OB (WWOBD) is selling his GSX? He just did all kinds of maintenance work on it and ran a 13.9 at the track last friday. Maybe he'll see this and let you know.

Nah, I'm gonna hang on to mine, and try to keep it on stock turbo, hopefully I'll hold out. I do have a guys number in Montgomery that has a '92 (Last year of 6 bolt motor, 14b turbo, and first year of 4-bolt rear) which is the best year to get, its white, Eagle Talon (I like the look of these the best) and grey leather interior. Its got a starion front mount (looks cool, but you don't see a gain w/ the starion intercoolers, they just don't flow worth a shit, they seriously don't flow enough more than the side mount to cover the cost of getting all the custom piping made). He also converted it from maf to mass air. He's asking $3,200 for it. He hooked up his boost cotroller all fucked up so hes having boost spikes right now, but we can straighten that out in all of 2 minutes. It has k&n and exhaust, so its basically got the mods I got + the pos front mount. It would be easy to hit 13's with it.

If you do, please get his number. I would sell my car to get a 2g, the looks are a shit load better, I almost bought a '97 shell to put my motor/drivetrain in, but it turned out to be fwd and I wasn't going to convert it over. The only way I'll have a fwd dsm is if I was to get a spyder, then I could live with it. But I've made up my mind that I would buy a 2g and just put a 6 bolt motor in it, so I wouldn't have to worry abot crank walk or snapping the rods they put in those 7 bolts. I can't believe mitsu had such a bullet proof engine and only ran it through '92. I don't know if you know this, but the 7 bolt is in 1g's also, they started using 7 bolts towards the end of '92 and goes up through '99, so you have to watch out when buying a 1g and make sure it has the 6 bolt, because that is the only advantage in buying one, cause they sure as hell aren't pretty.

I think im pretty set on the 240sx idea. If i were to buy one, for argument sake, lets say I had $5000 to start with.
$1500 - car with running motor
$2500 - front clip (not sure where id store it. anybody got any extra room?)
$700 - head gasket, possibly a clutch, odds-n-ends
$300 - beer for help. im sure id need a ton.
Doing a motor swap is waay over my head, but nothing that hasnt been done before. Im sure id need help doing it.
Also, i am pretty clueless when it comes to turbos. I think i have a general idea of what all of the different parts do, but have never 1. owned a turbo car or 2. worked on one.
The intercooler is for looks, and the bov is so that it'll sound cool, right? lol just kiddin.
My brother had a 1g DSM turbo. it was fun.
back to the point, i really really like the look of the silvia. If the initial car purchase/swap goes through okay, next would of course be suspension and exhaust. If everything held together, id start puttin some silvia body parts on and then worry about the interior.
Im just typing a lot because im in denial that im supposed to be working

Agreed, I want to try to somehow learn some basic drifting maneuvers if/when i get a 240. First time i saw an AE86, i was like 'what the hell is that thing'. I had never noticed them on the road before. Now i see them all the time...well..once in a while anyways.
