Hey guys,

Right now I can't afford a cat-back exhaust system, and it may be a few months. So I was considering getting this: http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/qtec.htm

What do you think about the performance? For a turbo car (SR, stock boost for now, bov, downpipe, intake filter) is basically just having a downpipe with no exhaust just as good as having a good catback... I plan on putting this just after the downpipe? I'm sure it will be better than stock, but I wonder how it compares to a catback system such as Blitz NUR Spec R or the like.

Thanks,
John

For a couple more bucks. Wolf could do you a custom 3" exhaust. They do nice crush bends. Or you could just buy manrel bends from Truck Stuff and have somebody weld it up. Aftermarket exhausts are gonna cost a ton more and only give you a few more hp's. I know at least S13's have a pretty straight shot to the back of the car. Not a lot of bends.

When the cutout is active, its gonna be loud as ballz. When its closed, it'll be restrictive. So any time you wanna get on it, you gotta activate the cutout which would get annoying.

Or you could be like Michael and just not have an exhaust :D

When considering WOLF...get Kevin to do your exhaust...mine was 285$. Kevin didnt do it and there are marks from sparks beggining to rust on my muffler :((if he used an arc welder the marks are from striking an arc). Kevin does a much better job than jeff?(the guy who installed and welded my exhaust). 285 wasnt bad though...and it sounds good IMO

170 for the muffler and 115 for piping and labor...good price compared the the 500$ for a catback

Well, hrmm, but I don't know about sound. I DONT want to be farting around. I know that I have a turbo engine, but I cannot take a chance...

Are you talking about just straight piping it? Or using a muffler? Even the slightest bit of fart noise will drive me crazy. I know the cutout will sound mean, and VERY loud.

I sit here telling myself I'll only open to race, and when driving keep it closed. But in reality, I drive fast/hard everywhere I go, and would want that HP, so it would always be open heh.

See, I'm the kind of person that, when spending the $250 for a cutout/custom exhaust, says, hell, it's only $300 more for a good exhaust I can trust... so why the hell not?

Choices choices.

With the cut out you also pose a pretty large sleeper aspect. Mine sounds pretty deep and not whiney like a weed eater. The c/o wouldnt be bad but might get obnoxious with going from exhaust to cutout...

AadosX

Yeah, the sleeper thing is the coolest thing for now heh, since I don't even have wheels yet. If they don't notice the lowering, which they prolly will, then I'm set haha.

But as I've told Jess, loud is cool with me, I'm getting the loudest BOV I could find haha. As long as it sounds good, loud = good to me. I mean, driving around town, I don't mind having something really loud. The ONLY reason I want it to be quiet is for like picking up/driving around with women, which I can do this way. Hell, this is starting to appeal more and more, I may not even get a cat back haha.

I just need to figure out the performance aspect though... any ideas?

If you are referring to the performance aspects of a catback or a cutout...the cutout is going to be less restrictive and loosen up a few ponies. In terms of other things...I know very little about nissans. Jess probably knows TONS. I do think the sr20det swap is really cool though...the whole silvia deal. (was it a front cut or just the motor, trans, ecu?)

Thanks man, that makes up my mind heh. Basically I just wanted confirmation that the performance would be good. I'm gonna order it tomorrow and I guess go to Wolf to get it installed... btw where exactly is that place?

I got a front clip, everything, but the main things are tranny (my old was auto), engine, ecu, and a few other things. My car's newer so I used the stock motor mounts, fans, etc.

I also did a few other things though. 3 inch Downpipe, Koyo radiator, C's short shifter, Exedy (sp?) stage 2 ceramic clutch, new filter, and a BOV. Now I'm out of money tho, and need exhaust lol.

This summer when I get a job, I'm doing wheels/tires, new injectors, maf, afc, ebc, fmic, and possibly a new turbo. As well as a few other things. It's a project car, but I'm not rich heh. I'm glad I had enough money to at least get things off to a good start.

First of all, we're in Alabama..you dont need a cat, nor do you want one.

Well I know... you know what I mean. My downpipe replaces the cat. anyways.

UPDATE: I just bought the cutout, and talked to Wolf. They said it'd be around $40 for the install... and the cutout was $199.99 shipped. Wolf said that they would use a tapering pipe to go from the 3" cutout to the 2.25" exhaust, but I just have to make sure that they fabricate one with mounts, I don't want to weld anything to the cutout... because I may sell it when I get (if I get) a catback exhaust system.

add it to a new downpipe when you get one, so you can open it at the track, or to scare some ricer.

AadosX

Exactly. I bought the 3" cutout because I have a 3" downpipe... and stock exhaust haha. It's in the shop right now getting.

Engine
5 Speed Tranny
Stage II Ceramic Clutch
Downpipe
Turbo Timer
Koyo Radiator
Guages
Short Shifter
BOV

Then when I get it back this weekend, I'll get that cuout installed. Then soon after, coilovers.

Now, I'm out of money.

haha, psh.

I can't wait till the summer, and I get a job, and I do maf, injectors, fmic, and ebc. mmmm Oh, not to mention wheels.

My friend has a modded Wolfsburg. He wanted a GTi but the parents wouldn't buy it for him. Sigh, I wish my parents would buy me a new car. Anyways, he's a member of our little "club."

www.eliteprojektz.com/jettapics.html

The site isn't quite done yet... and no we aren't ricers, they just care more about looks, but its tasteful. Where as I'm more performance oriented. He's getting an APR chip and exhaust soon though, and runs KW coilovers. Me and him are auto-x.

pretty cool, wonder why they wouldnt get him a GTI, the insurance is the same price

he was complaining about his parents not buying him a new car, but his girlfriends mom bought him a new car a couple of months ago. so basically, he is complaining just to complain, no reason. i was being an ass, and he'd expect nothing less than that from me. :)

01-26-2004, 04:35 PM
hahaha, nice... I was literally waiting to see how long you would take to say that lol.

I wasn't complaining though, maybe if I was still dating her then I wouldn't have to worry about running out of money?... heh.

But I paid for the car... almost. I sold what I had before for 7 grand, plus I had 3, so that's 10, and I just gave her another 10 once I sold it. So she only gave me 6 grand! Haha, and after selling the BMW for a loss it didn't really help me out any.

Yeah, my friend's parents are weird. They're rich as crap, but his Dad drive's a GTI, and didn't want his son to have an equal/better car. Sigh, his dad was contemplating between the GTI and a freaking M5 when he bought the car... that makes no sence to me, and he got the GTI. Whatever.

Exhaust systems are for wimps.

< open header master.

Seriously though you can get a custom mandrel bent exhaust for around $350-400 from KTeller on honda-tech. He does stuff for SR's. The key to not having a fart sound is getting a resonator before the muffler. Being turbo a small one would do I think.

Jess

Im thinking about getting a resonator. Just kidding, im thinking about pie.

I'm thinking about having an atmospheric BOV and nothing past my downpipe Biatch! You'll hear me haulin ass from miles away.

Why even run a DP? Just run turbo outlet.

...and how many times did that cause you throw a CEL? Not to mention it eventually made your car run funny because your cat was full of grime.

On an OBD2 car your CEL light will stay lit unless you have an O2 simulator. It has no effect on your car other than having a light on your dash lit. The reason his cat got full of grime is b/c he left it on the car with a space between his cat and header, which allowed all sorts of road grime to work it's way in there.

AadosX
01-27-2004, 11:18 AM
Exactly, and I have one of those simulators. Heh, I think open turbo would eff up my something, all that shit in the engine bay... and it would be HOT. I should make an up-pipe AFTER the turbo and cut a hole in my hood.

Cut a whole in the side of your fender and route it out there. If someone beats you in a race pull up real close to them and give them a blast of that hot ass air in their window.
