Ok, I'm about to get my coilovers, Tein HE, and would really like to install them myself, well, with help, if it's possible. Is this feasible? I know ppl install springs/shocks, but you have to have a spring compressor.
You guys think it's possible? Anyone want to help? Please? heh.

spring depresser wont be that expensive(I am getting one friday) and I bought jack stands yesterday 2ton for 10$. If we had a pep-boys they will let you borrow a spring depressor...yet I cant say much, I have had springs sitting at my house for over 4 months now :(

Well if anyone with any experience minds helping me out I could pay you a little... especially if you have a compressor heh. I already have basic tools and jackstands/good jack. I just really can't afford the $300 or whatever it would cost to have a shop do it.

I'd help, but I'm mildly retarded.

The more help the better, like I said, I have no idea what I'm doing.
The coilovers are TEIN HE, pillow-ball upper mounts, so I don't have to re-use the stock ones.
BTW, damn dude, you should actually get a hot girl to let you write that shit on her and take a pic haha. In Auburn, I know it's possible.

Aight well I really am a noob. I don't need a compressor, duh, and apparently this is a breeze. But I know better than that. Nothing with cars is ever a breeze. I won't get them in until just before mid Feb. I cand wait!

well i was gonna say i would help you but i am moving on the 3oth of jan. i've lowered about 6 cars, but never a 240. can't be that hard. if you need a spring comp. i usually get one from autozone. give them 50 bucks and when you bring it back... you get the money back. if i come down the weekend you do it i will help bro. you should do it with the help of someone, it will be fun and you can learn about your car. Hopefully you'll be in town. But yeah, I definitely want to be involved/do most of the work. I just need some experienced people to help me. Plus anything's more fun/easier with two ppl than one.

you shouldnt need a spring compressor on coilovers, you should be able to lower the spring to the bottom and put on the pillowmount.
or maybe not, i have spring compressors at home though. Ill help if you have a place like a garage to install them.
I've lowered a 240 and I've got a piece of shit spring compressor. You'll need another one in conjunction with mine. Auto zone will let you borrow one. Its pretty easy. Its all fun and games until a spring rapidly decompresses and decapitates somebody.

d00d u can't put coilovers on a car that has an independent springs and shocks. It's not possible. Whoever sold u those coilovers fucked up, cuz they ain't gonna work.

At first I thought you were kidding, but I totally forgot this car had independent springs and shocks. The later model s14's are like that. Why they had to change to a Macpherson 'coil-shock' setup is beyond me. Installing the coilovers and shocks on this car is going to involve a lot of custom fabricating and removal of the front upper-torsion ball mounts and the rear anti-sway upper shaft nut holding pins.

What the hell?! Noone ever mentioned this on the 240SX forums.. I'm going to have to look into this. At least I haven't technically bought them yet. It's a group buy that I'm signed up for... but if it wont work then I'll just back out.

Man fuck you all haha. You scared me and I was thinking about how many times I've looked at my suspension, and the fact that Tein lists them on their site. It's a good thing I deleted my post on the other forum before other people read it... ass holes.
rear anti-sway upper shaft nut holding pins... lol, that did sound very fishy... gotta love saying shaft and nut in the same phrase.

I'd just chill on the suspension. Not worth the hassle unless you can out drive the stock setup, which I doubt. I mean if you get them cool, but I wouldn't worry about spending money there yet if you have other things you want to do.
Good tires > suspension. This is not an opinion, it's fact.

But good tires = TONS more money that suspension, and they wear, really fast. I run Yoko AVS ES100, IMO the best out there for any price near them. The S03's are just too expensive for me.
Dude, I outdrive my suspension all damn day long haha.

I've got the AVS ES 100's as well. GREAT tire! Scott is right though, the Falkens are better. Too bad they only last 5,000 miles.

The ES100s are bad ass tires and are VERY cheap from tirerack.com right now. You can get them for like $58 a piece.
Also, the Azenis comment, the best 60' I've seen on a drag strip for Azenis is around 1.9-2.0. I've also seen ES100s go 2.0-2.1. For just a 1/10th of a second difference, I think the ES100s are a better buy because of the treadwear (Probably closer to 10-15k miles).

I really can't believe you said that. Neither tire was intended for drag racing so you can throw out that whole theory.
BTW, pulling a 1.9 on street tires (non-drag radials) is an accomplishment in a FWD honda. Also, the best I've seen for S0-3's is a 2.0 and you said ES100's can do that. I think we'd both agree that S0-3's are a much better tire.

After experience with S03's I'm sad to say that they BLOW! S02's are much better tire, at least for dry weather. And as for comparing the Yoko's to the SO3's, I think they are pretty equal. Those charts on Tire Rack suck!

Pretty much anyone I've ever talked to, maybe 95%, think that the S-03's are the best you can buy right now... and I agree. I'm going by personal experiences over numbers on Tire Rack, which I know are worth nothing.

Doesn't really matter anyways. I don't think they even make S02's for your size wheels. I could be wrong though.
I think you should get some of those colored BF Goodrich or whatever tires. I like the red ones myself.
