ok, so recently i've noticed something odd happening when at the higher RPM's. i was driving around a couple of days ago on some back roads, when it hit around 6800 rpm it just all of a sudden stopped pulling. its happened about 3-4 times (at high rpms = 6000-7800), but i haven't had the car all to long (3 weeks). btw, the car is a 5spd 'lude w/ 77,000 miles, zero mods (removed intake resonator though). any idea's would be very helpful.
one idea though, i'm not sure, but the original timing belt might still be on there. supposedly you are supposed to change those out around 60k on preludes...could that be the problem, i seriously don't know?
besides that one problem, the car drives perfectly fine (like it did when i bought it)...and usually pulls strong all the way to redline, this has only happened a very few amount of times. any idea's?

Check your oil level.
P.S. What year/motor do you have?

The timing belt will snap when it goes bad. its not that. Check your oil level. Get new plugs and wires.

Blake... how long have you been driving around when this happens? Does it always happen or just some times?

happens at random times...it has only happened 3-4 times since i've had the car. i've put approximately 2000 miles on it since i've gotten the car. i'm pretty sure the oil level is fine, but its about time to change it.
happened today, coming out of a turn (2nd gear), i start laying into the gas progressively and am at 90% throttle at the exit of the turn, at about 6800 rpm, the car all of a sudden jerks and stops pulling all together. i let off and put it in neutral. when leaving, the car pulled/drove fine without hesitation.

Another friend of mine was having kinda the same problem. But to his knowlege it would only happen in 2nd gear, and not too long after he started the car in the morning. I concluded that it was because the car was still cold, and that the ECU knew that, and used a lower fuel cutoff.

thats actually what i thought at first...it feels just like a fuel cut...now that i think about it, it does usually happen after the car has just warmed up..hmmm..
another thing, it never happened when the resonator was still on.

Could be the distributor coils. Mine have gone bad twice with the R. The car will pull like ACE on the top end but seem to drive around fine. Micheal (1.8t) can attest to the difference between the R having good and bad distributor coils.
Hint: It was the difference between the mid 14 sec Passat putting bus lengths on me and me being able to run 13's.
Check your oil level.

Smart thinking, I bet thats it. Take a turn too hard and maybe you couldnt pick up enough oil to make the vtec oil pressure sender happy

Any chance your CEL (check engine light) comes on when it happens?
