Dammit im slow. :P Im not going to blame my sub-par performance on my shitty tires, or anthing else on the car, but i think suspension and tires would help insanely.

The morning session, my best was a 45.xx sec. The instructor got a high 43 second pass. It felt alot faster than my runs. I kinda figured the track out more and ended up with a 43.3 second run during the run after lunch. I beat the instructors time, which was my goal of the day. The latter runs after my best time werent any better. There was one damn sharp turn right after a big sweeper that kept screwing me up. I think if i made a perfect run, i could be in the low 41s.

The instructor told me a trick when the front pushes. I would panic and turn the wheel more, but that made it worse. I listened to what he said and turned the opposite way when the front tires started sliding, and it would catch and let me turn into the corner. It worked and saved me from going through the cones. Kinda cool, i never knew that.

Anyway, I accomplished my "goal" of the day. The other noobs got better times than me. 40's and 41's consistant with the other guys (crx, prelude, z28) John (adosx) beat me by 1/10 of a second, FAG!!!! hehe.

FTD was a 36 (i think) from a sick black STI. All the pros got high 30's, and the only novice that did drove a factory 5 cobra!!! it was SICK!!

We (adosx, inspector, and I) spent 45 minutes driving crazily through traffic to find the Ducati dealership. I almost died like 5 times from people pulling into my lane.

Im tired and dirty, but I had an absolute blast!!! Thanks guys. :D

YES! that was AWESOME! on my last run of the day, i blasted off a 40.8...i was extremely happy...considering the "pros" were getting 38-39 range and i was driving a stock prelude. the 'lude handled the course better than i ever expected. the fastest was from that BADASS M Roadster (modded to hell and back) that had a 35.xx...it was INSANE! overall, incredible event and worth every cent.

my instructor ran a 43.1 in my car...i proceded to then own him!

...my instructor drove a modded miata. i think he ran a 38.xx...the instructors had everything from modded hatch's to a mean black STi (awd burnouts/launches rule!). one of the instructors dominated his WRX after spinning on the entrance to the slalom and hitting a poll. it was bad, but he was ok and the car actually could still drive.

clint, john's fastest was a 43.3..on one of the vids you ran a 43.3, so actually i think you tied!

I didnt own my instructor, but i did beat him. :D He drives an mr2, so he probably isnt use to front wheel drive.

Did you guys slow down before the slalom, or just let off the gas. I think i could have not used the brakes and got through there quicker.

full throttle right to the slalom, then hit the brakes pretty hard at the first cone, then consistant throttle throughout the rest of the slalom...thats how it worked best for me. the only run i did that on, i ran my best.

I dont think i held the throttle through the slalom, i might have lifted too much.

clint, that think you were talking about was the steering angle. when you turn to sharply it reduces your contact patch. after a certain point your tires become useless. that is the first thing they told me the first time i went and it definately helps

as for the intructor; i totally pwned mine ripping off a time a full second faster at 40.788. he was useless b/c he drove a FWD NA CRX which is in no way like my AWD Turbo WRX. he did teach me the wonders of left foot braking which could have taken some tenths off has i been comfortable enough to try it.

next stop is the actuall event this sunday in B-ham

I didn't do that great as far as times go but I had a ton of fun drifting a little haha. I never really got too serious, I just decided that my tires blew ass and I was going to have fun... and I had tons of fun. The most valuable thing I learned was this:

If you start to plow (understeer) instead of cranking the steering wheel all the way around and flooring it, just turn it a tad more than you already are, and let off on the gas until it catches, then give it gas, turn more.

that is the opposite of what you are supposed to do. if you are understeering turning the wheel makes the tires less effective and will just give you more understeer. getting off the gas works, but that slows you down. like Clint and i were referencing, the instructors tell you to do what we just described. it is called the steering angle. there is only so far you can go.

Well it worked... and he knows what he's talking about from what I can see... Maybe it's different for RWD as opposed to FWD/AWD... as soon as I let off the throttle and turn the wheels SLIGHTLY the rear end swings around and catches up, then I can gun it again... off throttle overstear.

CageChicane

like i said, that works but look what you are doing --- getting off the throttle. dont you think that slows you down?

the fastest way is to just reduce the steering angle a little. that way you dont have to back off the gas.

to fix normal oversteer really the only thing you can do while in it is to lift, but steering angle is a different type.
