Oh man this is all jess and i talked about for the ~1 hour trip back to auburn.. with a nice set of drag radials, he could bring that short time down to 1.8-1.9, thats .6 and .8 seconds deducted from the 1/4 mile time respectively. Easily into the 12s, and it wasn't even that cool tonight!
Only thing i was sorta dissapointed in was adam not breaking into the 14s, he had a lot of great runs but he never broke 15. And i'm sure if nick stuck around a little longer, he would've gotten even closer to 15s...
I had a great time tonight guys, thanks a lot.

yea, i had a great time tonite. first time to the track EVAR! ran a best of 15.4 @ 91.6 mph, with a crappy 2.3 60'. i had one run with a 2.1 60' but misshifted  ...whatever, i was content with my times. great runs jess and everyone else!

adam p
10-02-2004, 01:53 AM
I ran a 15.1@89 with a 2.2 60'. I had three 2.2 60's and 89mph EVERY RUN. WHAT THE HECK! WHERE ARE MY 14s.
Boost was dropping off early today in second gear WTF
2.2 60' felt pretty good, that is also a personal best. Oh well decent I suppose.
linuxman51
10-02-2004, 02:08 AM
hm. i didnt need drag slicks to bust a 1.9 60 in sam's wagon, on my way to a 13.74 (to his 13.75.. oh yeah baby). 102.4 trapspeed.
and it took .9 seconds to shift from first to second (no shit, thats absolutely as fast as it would shift) i think i mighta gotten the time down a little from that (we've got the datalogs to prove this), but still, you get the idea. run 1st out, make a pot of coffee, then second's ready to rock.
lots of fun was had by all, waylayed a gunmetal gti, ripped his ass off the line and he just couldn't seal the deal, 13.76 to my 13.74 or something like that. i was looking over at him the whole time, he didnt gain any on the top end (just pulled back up along side while i was plugging in the coffee machine after 1st gear)

Inspector: You should be able to hit low 15's easy, 14's with some work. I think you and I would be a good run.
AdamGTi: You are gonna have alot of trouble hitting 14's with that trap speed.
HA! Jess. I told you she would hold on up higher with that IC and give you a better trap. Booyyaaa. 8) Great run. And KENNY!!! AWESOME run man! What was the setup last night? Boost? Octane? Etc... Congrats to both of you guys.
Thanks guys. John - I was running 11psi.

Jess I'm proud of you boy, lol.
FYI, the first time I ever ran it was a 15.7 @ 94. Being my first time, of course the launch was just horrible but still the trap would have been higher than 89 on that run. Is the humidity killing me THAT MUCH. I am bewildered. How much better should my 2.2 60' be? Anyways, after the launch, my car just isn't fast enough. I couldn't pull on a Prelude SH!
ARGH!! !!!

Hmmm. Where to begin?
I'm not one to make excuses, but first off, as for ripping off the line, I cut the better light. Second, that was my worst 60' time and 2nd to worst ET of the night. Third, you are RWD, I'm FWD. Much easier for you to launch (weight transfer). Fourth, as for not gaining any top end, my turbo is a small hair dryer and my car is all midrange. Which means that your top end isn't that great either. Fifth, that was the best time the car has ran, correct? You beat the owner's best time so I'm assuayming that's the best that car has ran (correct me if I'm wrong). I ran three 13.6's and two 13.4's on Fri night. Lastly, as for waylaying, if you check that timeslip, you did have the better time but I still got the win light. 8)
Nice meeting everyone that I did meet. And congrats Jess. I knew your car had more than low 14's in it. Cold weather will be here soon so I'll be going back, shooting for 12's before the big turbo goes on at the first of the year.

Haha, its obvious you don't know him. Kenny and Sam do ALL of their own work including pioneering the old vovlo performance frontier. I would seriously venture to say that Kenny is one of the most knowledgeable mega-squirt people in the USA by a large margin. Its crazy how he figures all that stuff out.
Also, I'd be careful challenging them to a road race in the volvos......you'll probably be spanked pretty badly if Sam's driving
VDUBNDizzy
10-04-2004, 12:34 AM
Sam may be able to drive, but so can I.
While driver is a very important factor.....I have heard Dizzy can throw his car through some twisties as well. Sam may have much more experience and be the better driver, but Dizzy's car is far better setup(I believe you have suspension?) and I am not so sure if Sams driving ability can make up the deficit of a good driver with a good setup vs. an awesome driver w/ a not so good setup(assuming we are talking the wagons here). Of course, I will more than happy to compete against anyone on the board at an autox. I ain't skerred :D
VDUBNDizzy
10-04-2004, 12:37 AM
Yeah, I have some suspension mods. N GA mountains trained me well as well as few visits to Lil Talladega.
I've been to LT as well....back in the days when I had my passat. Ran 4secs behind Sams IT RX-7's time with coilovers, RE750s, chip, exh., and FMIC. I am licking my chops at what I can do in my S2k w/ S02s and a perfectly balanced chassis/suspension. Can't wait. So far with autox, I have had the fastest street tires time in my class and the second fastest street tire time in my class(class is BS) in the 2 that I have competed in so far. I am sure to improve as I had only had the car 2 weeks for the first one and 1 month for the second one. I am a little more tuned in with how to be fast with it now, so I am looking for another autox to burn off the what is left of my rear tires. We should all caravan to a Birmingham or to the Subaru event they are having at the end of this month. My bro will be running and I plan to pwn some subarus as well. It is at the Gwinett County Fair Grounds in Atl. I know how to get there, we should all make a trip and burn some subies :D 8)

Me and Sam drove the same car at one auto-x. He got 4 runs and so did I.
I won. :P
Yes Sam is an awesome driver and one of the coolest guys around, but I put his skills at being a pure car control beast and being able to catch almost anything over actual timed runs. He runs sure as heck looked at lot cooler than mine and I probably couldn't have corrected some of the stuff he got the car into, but when it came down to actually getting the car around the track faster that's a whole other ball game.
The Volvo does good at auto-x for it's CLASS, so lets not forget that. In the overall picture it's not all that fast. Yes I've been there so I know.

Thanks man. Arguing in a biggest dick contest would make about as much sense as arguing who has the fastest primered black 240 on the board because we both know who'd win both.

Okay, please. Why the arguing? It's not a "biggest dick" contest.

Sam has really good car control, but he drives a little too tail happy to be really fast in my opinion. I am not criticizing him, I'm the same way, maybe even worse at keeping the back end in line.
Sam has told me before that he feels his natural gift is in car control more so than being fast(picking the line and all that jazz). Regardless, the only way any of us could ever deteremine the "fastest" driver would be for all of us to get the exact same car, have it for about a month to get used to everything, and then hit up an autox. That way the only variable is the driver. I vote we all use Sams shifter cart for the basis of this comparison  8) :D

Speaking of car control, this sunday at the atlanta autox, my badass driver friend Pedro drifted his 2.0 mk4 golf around every corner. He would snap the car and let off, and the back end would come WAY out! It was so much fun. He ended up running a 46.xxx while I ran a 51.xxx. I didnt expect to come close to his time, since he has been racing for 10 years and is sponsored by tirerack, plus had victoracers.
I got the GLI back end to swing out 5 inches accidently, one time at the race.
Lets not forget Sam's ingenious tuning vision of filling the engine with oil until it spills out of the valve cover for faster AutoX times
Sam: "Dude, I added 5 extra quarts of oil and knocked .2 seconds off my lap time!"
Me: "Yes but you also created a giant hole in the ozone layer above birmingham and managed to give every single track worker the black lung."

very true...but what about FAT FUCKS? Weight distrubution would be a major issue when considering very comparable driver skill. Hell, look at the touring cars you see on Speed Channel, those guys are adding 5 pounds here, 10 pounds there. Just think about a 250 pound 5'5" porker in the driver seat compared to say....myself at about 140 something, should we just cut some of the lard off of the poor guy, or add a few weights during my runs?
Sam isn't fat at all....very skinny actually.

That's not what he was saying... He was saying that your test would work, but even the humans driving can change the abilities/characteristics of the car.
