I'm selling the silver moss 240SX and I'm trying to type up a conclusive FS thread post to use on forums. Is there anything that I left out that you can think of? What questions would you have so I can go ahead and include those things?
Hey guys, my car is for sale.
Basics:
5 Speed
150K Miles
Silver Moss Exterior (Rare color, looks incredible contrasted with dark wheels)
Black/Grey (Patterned) Cloth Interior
Details:
The wheels are stock but spray painted black. They looked great for a while but have gotten scratched up. One wheel has some curb rash on the outer lip. Open diff., no abs, 5 lug, stock spoiler.
Right now it's stock except for TEIN HE coilovers (front camber plates included) and Battle Version RUCA's for camber control in the rear. Does not have an exhaust system. Also there is no cat but has a 3" test pipe. NISMO shift knob (the skinny style) w00t! :D
Runs well and strong. Paint is in good glossy condition except for the front bumper. It's not bad but has a lot of tiny chips from rocks on the interstate. Most of the miles are interstate miles as well. Interior is basically perfect, you be the judge.
You will definitely want to get some new tires. There is no stereo or front speakers, but I can find something and intsall it if you want. Also, I can put the stock suspenion back on if you want, and reduce the price ~$1000, depending on your offer.
The engine bay has only been touched once outside of changing the oil and other common maintenance... and it was to install a CAI. The guy that owned the car before me tried but failed (I was told that the kit was missing a silicone hose connector or something), so the stock stuff is in there. I have all of the peices that he gave me for the intake, but never touched them. I also have parts of a short shifter that he gave me (OBX Brand) but never touched that. I have no idea what parts are missing for both, but I'll throw all of that in with the car.
Lastly, the car needs an alignment. It's very driveable, but pulls ever so slightly to the left. I just haven't gotten around to getting one since I installed the coilovers. I can either let you take care of that, or get one for you with your custom specs (for camber, etc.) once you are committed to purchasing the car. Personally I reccommend 1.5 deg. negative camber rear and 2.0 deg. negative camber in the front, with 0 toe all around, for a perfect daily driver/weekend warrior.
I think that's it, but if I think of anything else I'll let you guys know. E-Mail me with any questions/offers/etc.
Price:
I'm looking for $7000 OBO. I also need an S13, so trades+your cash also work.

I was very interested until the $7K part....what year is it anyways? I need another car to drive while the Supra is down and was only looking to spend $3K at most. If you get $7K for it I'll be suprised but good luck anyways. Does anyone else think that is a bit high or is it just me?

if it had exhuast and good tires...NO, that isnt that high at all...the car is in great shape minus the front bumper...and 6k with out the suspension is rather reasonable

Long story but now it's back in my hands to sell and so I'm doing so. I'll prolly be getting an S13 soon, and Tom want's to get either an AE86 or an S13.

It's a 97,, sorry I included that in the title of the posts that it will be in. It's an SE as well just for your info. KBB is $5700 (actually only has 143k miles), new the coilovers are $1300, the RUCAs are $250. That's $7250. I realize it doesn't have exhaust and needs tires, and also needs a stereo, but in the car modding world, those are minor details. The exhaust would most likely be replaced anyways, along with the wheels/tires. And like I said I could easily slap in a stereo if anyone cared. Anyways, this post was just for 240SX enthusiasts... and they know what the car is worth. I'm not trying to cling to the drift fad TOO much, certainly not nearly as much as others are when selling their 240SX's, but I realize the popularity of the car. Right now everyone is getting above KBB on theirs, so I think my price is very very reasonable, and in the end that's what the OBO is for... For example, a 1997 Base model (4 lug, no sunroof, shitty wheels) just sold for $6000, STOCK with the same milage... and it sold with relative ease. Hell, I see guys trying to get $3500 for their 150k S13's (DOHC's that is, 1991-1993) all day long, granted they usually go for closer to $3000. Bottom line, Kouki 240SX's are rare.

Yeah, but not as rare as a white rx7. You need to take that into consideration. And tell Tom there is no such thing as an AE86. Nope never heard of one. So he better get a S13, not an AE86.

Good ad, I'm just not sure about the price, but that's all up to you of course. We have different views on what is considered high mileage anyways. I wouldn't expect too aweful much from a domestic at 150k. Goodluck with the sale. New car!

I guess there's a bit of inflation on the 240sx boards because my gf bought a clean '96 SE with LSD, sunroof, and <100k on the clock for around $5.5k about a year ago. That car looked fairly good, ran great, HAD an exhaust (a hoopty magnaflow actually) a functional stereo, and brand new tires. This wasn't some freak bargain either, it was a used car lot for crying out loud.
CPMaverick
10-12-2004, 12:14 AM
Yeah, if you think all these cars are going for well over KBB, maybe they are, but only on these boards where there are rabid highschoolers and college kids drooling over drift machines. If it's KBB, then you ought to be able to find a car for that if you look hard enough, and aren't in a 'gotta have it now' mentality.
I mean, these cars aren't Honda Accords, but they aren't vipers either. They made a decent amount of 'em.
AadosX
10-12-2004, 12:22 AM
I'm still not getting it though, did you guys read my post? It's worth (according to KBB + mods) $7250, and because there's no exhaust/tires I lowered it to $7000. I could easily put exhaust and some decent tires on there for ~$350... so it looks like I'm overcharging $100. When was the last time you LISTED your car for sale AT the kbb price?

Have any of you checked auto trader for 97-98 s14s? Please do, and tell me the car is overpriced. Also there is a pretty big price difference in a 96 and 97 240.

Ok, here are a few I found if you insist:
$3991, asking price at a dealership (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=170488922&dealer_id=6776050&car_year=1997&make=NISSAN&distance=300&max_price=7000&model=240SX&advcd_on=n&end_year=1997&min_price=1000&certified=n&address=36849&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=1997&color=&cardist=300)
$4800, asking price individual (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=171710686&dealer_id=&car_year=1997&make=NISSAN&distance=300&max_price=7000&model=240SX&advcd_on=n&end_year=1997&min_price=1000&certified=n&address=36849&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=1997&color=&cardist=90)
82,000 miles, $2800 (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=170949346&dealer_id=55267071&car_year=1997&make=NISSAN&distance=any&max_price=7000&model=240SX&advcd_on=n&end_year=1998&min_price=1000&certified=n&address=36849&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=1997&color=&cardist=554)
Now sorry 'cause this probably makes me look like a jackass, but you asked. ;)
Last time I asked KBB for a car was the last time I sold one. Maybe you have $1500 'worth' of mods, but if yo can get money back on mods, especially retail, you are a lucky man.
And plus, the car isn't even complete. I'm not gonna pay KBB for a car that has parts missing, but that's just me.

If you mod a car then sell it, you have to be prepared to eat the cost of the mods to some extent. Putting it to stock and selling the mods would probably make the most $$ unless you sell it to another enthusiast who would mod it anyway.

To CP, all three of those are autos. Plus the first two don't even list mileage, and the last one actually wants 5,200 if you read the add. Also i don't think the last one is an SE, regardless of what the add says, by looking at the car.
AadosX
10-12-2004, 01:18 PM
^^What he said, and no the last one is not an SE. I'm tempted to call and get the milage on the others but I don't really care enough.

If i were you, i would take those bad ass tein coilovers off your car and sell them seperatly b/c your not going to get nearly as much if you sell them with the car.
but in all honesty, you may be able to sell it for 7k. ya know what they say... "a sucker is born everyday" !

I'm not even expecting a full 7k! omgomgomgomg
And you might be surprised to see what I got for my last car. Already people on the boards are saying that 7k is a really good price... but that means nothing. We'll see when it sells.

7000!! some idiot on another forum might buy it, hope you get lucky, but an "enthusiast" would never spend that much for a car he could get for much less. that being said, i liked the car and had fun in it when i drove it (eventhough its slow)...hope it sells!

You are so right, I would much prefer a clean stock car, even with high milage, to anything that's modded. Especially if its not ven complete. You just never know who's been doing the work.
But the ricers out there will probably eat that shit up, if so, let the highest bidder win.

What do you mean? Installing coilovers? If it was an engine swap then ok...
And Clint, like you said, that car is damaged... and 6 years older. S13's are a dime a dozen, I can't go a day without seeing at least 25. I'm lucky to see 1 kouki a week.

So... all I was saying earliar in the thread was that 150k miles doesn't equal $7000 for that car EVER IMO. Year doesn't matter to me personally since mileage tells the wear and tear on a car most of the time. Great body? Who cares... I paid $700 for my Supra with 160K miles with a decent body other than paint (no more than $1000 worth of work). The only deifference in my eyes between our cars is year model, which IMO can't make a car worth more in most cases. Just my input on it.

The exact opposite of what you said. The ONLY thing that makes a price difference in our cars IS the year model.
Timbo
10-22-2004, 10:09 AM
How the hell do you figure that? Both miles and year come into play.... So you're saying a 69 Camaro Z28 with low miles would cost less then your little hatchback with alot more miles? That's EXACTLY what you're saying since "The ONLY thing that makes a price difference in our cars IS the year model" PLUS, I said "in my eyes" miles is everything even though in the real world year model is also a key factor in selling a vehicle for a certain price.

Just found these and confirmed them a few places. Here is why my kouki is worth way more than a zenki (95-96) 240SX. Production numbers:
89 - 68118
90 - 60582
91 - 34534
92 - 27033
93 - 21471
94 - 1167
95 - 25114
96 - 7334
97 - 3655
98 - 2178
Its worth what someone is willing to pay for it. You can ask all the $$ you want, no one will buy it.;)
