New family car. Opinions on the C55 AMG?

My mom might be looking at getting a new ride here in the next couple of months. Heck, should could roll up tommorrow in something for all I know.

She told me about looking at a Jaguar XJ8 and I was like :shock: :shock: . Those run around 70k. I was thinking she was going to be browsing in the price range of the Acura TL she owns now, but I guess not. She still thinks the new TL's are very nice and I'm sure its very high on the list especially since it's way cheaper.

However if she is going to step up I'm almost positive there are MUCH better alternatives than the Jag. They are nice rides but from my reading I don't think they have that much to offer for the price.

That's when I started thinking about the new AMG C55. It's cheaper than the Jag and should suit her luxury needs well. Not to mention having 360hp and running mid 13's at 106mph. I'm not a huge Mercedes fan but for her it seems like it would be a great car.

She's also always liked Caddy's as well. A new LS6 equipped CTS-V would be fine with me. :P

Any ideas on semi upper level luxury sedans that I might be missing?

If she wants a performance car, get an S4. However, I love the new Mercedes CLS, droopy rear end and all. It's so slippery and original. I think it looks amazing. To me it seems kinda retro is some weird way. Man I love it.

Funny you guys said this. The reason I thought of the C55 AMG was due to my lastest Road and Track which put the new S4 and the C55 head to head.

Not to magazine race but the C55 was significantly faster in terms of trap speed (ET as well), braked better, and had a higher slalom speed than the S4.

I'd probably pick the S4 personally because it seems like it might be a little more fun to drive, but for my mom it looked like the C55 would be the clear winner.

In the new Car and Driver, the S4 beat the benz and the Caddy. If you want handling, go with the S4. If you want raw power, go with the Benz.

OMG those benzos are SO FUCKING BAD!!! the brakes are damn HUGE, HOLY SHIT!! big quad exhaust tips too! Do manual tranny is the only downside. FUCKA CTSV!!! :twisted:

My dad and I looked at one last weekend. He is going to get my mom an E classe diesel. The interiors on the C are dope, suede, perfed leather and normal leather too. Little amg badge in the middle of the back rest. Carbon trim. YUMMY.

My parents love both of their mercedes...granted new models have a tendency to have a few quirks that need fixing or alteration...but the dealer is always able to help out...especially Jack Ingram in MGM. They have always been accomidating to my parents on all of the purchases they have made...Both Volvos and Both mercedes..
