The new issue of R&T has an article on the strana truck racing circuit. It's those 18 wheeler rigs that do road course racing. They're wanting to bring it state side officially instead of only having it overseas.

Anyways, They tossed out some facts about the trucks and wow...i'm really impresed. Check it out.

- 14 liter 14,000cc turbo diesel series 60 6 cylinder - sits low nearly directly under the cockpit for better center of gravity.
- 15.0:1 compression ratio :O Try that with 87 octane :D
- Engine produces 800 hp @ 2500 rpm's and 2200 lbs ft torque at 1800 rpm
- Weight of these beasts tips the scales at a scant 10,000 lbs
- Stopping power is provided by 16.9 inch front and rear Haldex water cooled disk brakes
- 0-60 in 5.5 seconds
- 1/4 mile in 13.7 seconds @ 98 mph
- 80-0 stopping distance is 250 feet
- Skidpad testing netted 0.97g!! A C6 can barely pull that off :P

Crazy stuff. Those races are fun to watch but secretly, I can't wait till swamp buggy racing becomes popular.

... gay! still kinda cool though...in a gay way I guess. I guess you don't watch the Dakar rally? On those long ass stretches accross the desert the HUGE ass trucks pass the small "quick" cars without very much effort. So much more room for those insanely huge engines.

I used to watch that stuff on TV way WAY back on TNN. Like late 80's early 90's way back. It was CRAZY, like unlimited hydroplanes with wheels. American Sports Calvicade with Brock Yates and Steve Evans from Naples Florida.....

Man. :cackle: They have a web site: Swampbuggy.com (http://www.swampbuggy.com/home.htm)

PS: for those that don't know, i'm old.

Yeah iv'e watched the last two dakar rallies that have been on speed channel. Pretty sweet. Stupid motorcycles win every year! And those big trucks are fast as crap and they're just there to supply parts in case their team race trucks/cars break.

You must be thinking of the wrong trucks. The ones he is talking about are IN the race and are fast as crap.

mabey so. I know of the baja trucks racing and yeah they're monsters. I was referring to those HUGE trucks that are technically the repair/parts trucks that still are fast.
