On my way to work last night I was traveling on I-65 South. I had just entered into Mobile and traffic had picked up (6 lanes at this point). Roads were pretty wet. As I approached and over-pass and onramp I noticed the car ahead of me in the right lane swerve into the middle lane connecting with a Nissan Pathfinder. I think a car coming on the off ramp might have cut her off but I'm not sure. Anyway the two cars tangle up and shot left almost slamming into the wall before cutting back right. At this point the Pathfinder regained stabililty but the Nissan Sentra wasn't so lucky. As it shot right the car started to spin.

Now I'm watching all of this from behind thinking "Oh F*ck, come on Sentra keep spinning, come on". I knew if it would go ahead and spin out that it would most likely be ok, but that wasn't the case. It shot strait off the interstate, which was unfortunately roughly 10ft higher than the ground below, which sent it airborne into the a batch of pine trees right past the off-ramp, nailing them hard, then doing a table top spin and being flung back into the ditch that it orginally flew over, flipping at least once and landing on it's side in the ditch.

I pretty much assumed everyone inside was dead. At this point I'm on the brakes hard and am dialing 911 as I jump out of my car. Some guy is already there on top of the car breaking the glass out.

Amazingly the two passengers appeared to be fine:O . It was a young girl about 16 or so and a little girl about 2 years old. Car seat probably saved her life. Both climbed out without much incident.

Now here is the scary part. Out of the dozens of cars that witnessed this accident INCLUDING the pathfinder involved NOBODY ELSE FUCKING STOPPED!!!!! There were cars everywhere when this happened and they just continued on their way even though they just witnessed a car get demolished and flip into a ditch, that was filled with water BTW. I really could not fathom how people could just keep going along their way knowing that somebody could be dieing.

Agreed. Whenever I see a bad accident, I always check to make sure everyone is okay and it amazes me that no one else does.

One night I was driving some friends back from visiting some other friends. It was about midnight and a car in the opposite lane was weaving a bit as it passed us. I didnt think much of it until I saw its taillights in my rear view going end over end at least twice. We did a U-turn, called 911 and ran to the vehicle. It was an SUV and it was right-side up if I remember correctly. There were CD's everywhere, the windshield was gone and there was a baby seat in the back.

We looked all over but couldnt find ANYONE. It was as if the car wasnt being driven by anyone. Eventually, police and EMT's showed up. Still no body. Probably 30-45 minutes had passed. At least the police and EMT's had flashlights which made it a bit easier. I was giving my statement to a policeman and I kept hearing a weird noise. It kept getting louder. It was a creepy zombie moaning gurgling noise. It was the driver. We were almost standing right on top of her. She was drowning in her own blood face up in the ditch.

Long story short, she made it after a few days in the hospital and the child seat was unmanned, thank god. She was drunk.

Damn, those are some fucked up stories, but I'll tell you as far as everyone just driving on by...happens all the time. It's called the bystander effect. People figure, well someone else has or will help them with all of these other people around. Also some people consider seeing something like that "scary" and are too, "scared" to help, they just freak out and keep driving. People like that piss me off, but it happens.

Back in the summer of '95, I was driving back home from from Charleston to Augusta on a 5 lane road (4 lanes with a turn lane). About 1/8th mile in front of me, an older Thunderbird made a left hand turn in front of a pickup that was directly in front of me. The truck hit the Tbird and sent it spinning off into a parking lot... I stopped in the middle of the road and turned my hazards on... 3 of 5 lanes were blocked with wreckage.

As I ran towards the truck, two people got out of it and were leaning over the bed... Their faces were covered with blood, but they looked OK. My attention then turned to the Tbird that was off the side of the road with its engine racing... The driver was laid across the passenger seat with his badly broken leg/foot stuck under the brake pedal and forcing the gas pedal down. I quickly turned the car off, and started looking at him... He was breathing and had a pulse, but it was faint. He had a deep puncture on his forehead as well. Another person who stopped was a nurse, and we agreed that we would not move him unless he crashed. Right when we heard an ambulance coming, I lost his pulse at his neck, and looked over at the nurse. She too had lost his pulse on his leg... We were about to start to pull him out when the paramedics took over.

The entire time we were with him, there were almost two other wrecks because people were too impatient to wait and tried going around the wreck in oncoming traffic... I was almost hit by a car as I crossed the road to go wash the blood off of my hands... If you see a bad wreck, STOP AND GIVE AID!! You would want the same if you were in involved and needed help...

When my brother was in his near fatal accident, it was right in front of a paramedics house. Luckily he was sitting on his front porch and was at the car as soon as it landed. If it wasn't for him, my brother could be dead, because the ambulance took around 20 mins to get there.

At a very busy intersection near my house there was a pretty bad accident about 2 years ago.

Basically a women in a brand new Jag (still had the dealer plates) had a seisure while approaching the intersection. It was downhill into the intersection and she plowed through a red light at about 80mph at full steam. She clipped one car before entering the intersection sending it spinning into a gas station. Her car then proceded to T-Bone a car making a left at the light sending it up into the air up and landing on cars waiting at the light. The Jag still bouncing around the intersection then slid off into a parking lot careening into 3 more cars before settling on it's roof...

All in all about 11 cars damaged in one fashion and consider some of the cars (especially the T-Boned one '98 Accord) were barely recognizable as automobiles.

I was waiting at the light when this all occured and was pretty much only about 30 feet away from the path of destruction. About 4 people hopped out of cars (including a uniformed cop, apparently on the way to/from work) to help. The most awful thing about this was the resturant right at the intersection poured out into the street to watch the ensuing activities.

All in all basically these people were getting rescued from their cars (jaws of life, etc) with a crowd of spectators. The waitresses actually begin serving drinks and appitzers to patrons that were watching outside.

No fatalities (which was amazing) but, a few serious injuries

a long ass time ago (i think i was 6 or 7), our family was driving to disney world. we were going down the interstate when we saw a woman cross the median and hit an oncoming car head on. her car flipped a ton of times, i can't remember how many. when the car finally stopped rolling, my father stopped the car and ran across the interstate where her car landed. he said there were many people just standing there staring at the car not even helping the stranded woman as the car was totalled AND on FIRE! my dad and another man immediately ran over and ripped the door open and pulled the woman out...saving her life more than likely.

i just remembered this incident while reading all these stories. i can't comprehend how someone could just sit there and watch as a person dies...some people have some serious problems.

I've never witnessed a wreck but I remember seeing that video of the news guy that was reporting on how dangerous an intersection was and then this car just gets NAILED and he just sits there talking to the camera instead of going to the aid of the people that got in the wreck.

i came upon a woman who flipped her expedition and landed on the other side of 85 southbound.

I didnt stop. There was another person stopping on the other side though. She looked like she was moving :(

I dont want to see anything gross. I would be scarred for life.

Comming back from getting the black gti, we saw a huge wreck in columbus, an expedition hit an off duty cop on a gixxer and flipped. We saw the cop laying on the ground, with no one around him, dead. :(

I know I should have helped that woman in the red expedition. DAMMIT. :(

I was on the way to an interview that morning, so it would have sucked to have blood on my suit. The interview was for my current employer.

There were people on the other side stopping.

my father and I were driving on south gay street right where mr. gattis used to be and we whitnessed an older lady mow down a mexian guy on his bike... The shitty thing about it is that the lady didn't even stop, she just kept on driving like she hit a bug or somthing... I got out and helped the guy while my father got the lady's plate number... my father later gave the plate number to the guy... i hoped he pressed charges against that grimy biatch!

Where has the love for human life gone????

... but when adrenaline takes your body over, you can probably withstand more grossness than you think yeah. I never knew that i could pick up chunks of a college student's brain and not be fucked up in the head by it... well, my head has become more fucked b/c of that. I had nightmares about my brothers dying after that happened. A few days later, i called both of my brothers and told them i loved them and i havent thought about that incident until now:(
