Officials presided over the destruction of the white IROC Chevrolet Camaro seized on Aug. 30, 2003
IROC = Italian Retard Out Cruisin :D
I mean comon. If you racing on a public road, you know it's wrong and more than likely you probably don't really know how to drive your car at any speed anyhow, so they probably are pretty dangerous. Imagine yourself at 16-17 and had a decently fast car... You probably would end up killing yourself given a decent amount of time....
All I gotta say is RICER= :owned:
I want something fast

I think it is absolute bullshit that they can seize a vehicle and destroy it. What is next are they going to start seizing guns from people because they might kill someone? While I do think that most of the ricers out there are dumbasses what gives the state the right to make a law that states if youy race or if the cop deems you un safe then we will take your car and destroy it?
I love the thing it said about how a wopping 8 people were killed last year in street racing accidents....shit that many die every day in Atlanta because of traffic issues, road rage, and bad street deliniation...so maybe they should police that instead of something that gets them publicity.
All in all I think this crack down on organized street racing is bullshit, and a waste of my tax dolloars. They are chasing ghosts that for the most part are always going to be one step ahead. Know if they see someone nearly kill a person, or if there are innocent people like other drivers that are endangered then by all means pursue them. But honestly if someone wants to go street race and and ends up killing themselves or the guy they are racing...well that is an understanded risk that you accept if you are racing or watching. Don't like the risk, don't go. Big brother doesn't need another reason to dictate how we spend our free time and to be honest if someone wants to race and they aren't going to hurt anyone but themselves or a willing participant then by all means let them. Truth is that more people die from random stupid stuff like the rash of 50 deaths in a month from hit and runs then people die from street racing. Let the idiots kill themselves.

I couldnt agree with you more man... if the government is so hell bent on cracking down on street racing, I say build drag strips and autocross parks or give tax dollars to the local ones. Seizing and destroying cars isnt right. I imagine after a few poor peoples cars are destroyed this will be found unconstitutional. Sad thing is, you are totally at the mercy of the police. If you accelerate briskly from a stop light, not racing and a cop pulls you over its your word against his. You guys saying "fuck camaros" and all that are missing the point. This is bigger than just some crappy cars getting crushed up, its about your rights as an American citizen.

Well said everybody. As car enthusiasts, it pretty much sucks. We dont have a place to go to enjoy our hobby and our interests, and now they take away even more basic rights. Heck, just having a group of cars together will get us run away from parking lots. I honestly would not ever race on the streets if we actually had a venue. They could cut down on the crime more effectively, and who knows, even cheaper, if they built roadcourses and the like as was suggested.
The stoplight thing is a serious concern. My friend was accused of racing me on 280 (I was going 40mph in sixth gear mind you) because he accelerated in front of me, probably half throttle, in his mustang GT b/c I was supposed to be following him. He MIGHT have gone 5mph over the speed limit while some beater was doing about 20 over in the far lane. The cop used some lame line about how he won the race, but he still loses or something (as if the cop would actually be able to even SEE our cars if we were actually racing). Anyways, he settled out of court with like 25 hours driving school thanks to his lawyer, but the accusations were serious, all for accelerating semi briskly.
Street racing is not a major problem, ANYWHERE. There are a million more pertinent things, and the fact that its so glamorous for police to crack down on the street racers is terrible, but can be credited a WHOLE LOT to THAT movie. Thanks alot for ruining it for everyone, assholes.

one day, I am going to be in law enforcement...probably not any type that will be BREAKING down on the street racing "scene", but a law enforcement official none the less. I cant really understand from a police officers point of view what the real HARM is. Am I more affraid of being ran off the road by some "IDIOT" who is going 120 on the interstate or perhaps someone accelerating froma stop light/sign at a semi progressive rate...or some gun toting drug addict on his third week of a herion bing? You tell me! I hardly see what the problem is. Until people start dieing in vast quantity due to street racing...then I dont see a real problem. It doesnt come down to the preservation of life...it comes down to profits from fines and citations. Law enforcement is a business in most regaurds. It has become an explotation of the rights given to it by the government. As long as a certain degree of sense is used when "RACING" on the street or anywhere...there is less harm than would be seen walking in to a gas station after 3am. We are at a loss of our certain civil liberties when it comes to the currupt who just happen to hold a position of power. Machiveli put it best when he said that ALL men are EVIL inherently. Its the will to do something just that makes good men different from the weak and the unjust.
Take Care

I say let em kill themselves.

Hmm, i was under the impression that those 8 people were innocent bystanders. Even in st louis, we had 3 deaths from street racing last year and i KNOW at least 1 of those wasn't a driver. If it were my wife or someone in my family that was killed because of a streetracer i wouldn't be seizing their car, i would be seizing their life.
What exactly is the freedom you speak of here, rob? What are you all really so scared of? It really doesn't seem so bad that they destroyed this guys car.. If they had CONSISTENTLY placed him behind bars for reckless driving and he had a LONG track record of endagering the life of others, then this moron obviously brought it upon himself. Honestly, i dont understand what would encourage someone to go back and do the same thing over and over again.. its like touching the hot stove again after you just burned your hand. Sounds like he had it coming to him and he got what he deserved.

ok well i didn't realize there was a video. i just watched it and that was badass.. I will admit that what they are doing is a little absurd, and i think its highly probable what nick said (i'm sure someone driving an iroc doesn't have a lot of money, and i'm sure these "legal processes" involve some hefty fines) but i've been through my streetracing days and i really can't defend the fast and the furious community. I agree, if the idiots want to kill themselves, that is fine but when you have thousands of parents screaming down your neck about the death of 2 high school students then the police kind of has to do something

The freedom that I speak of here is the freedom to own a nice car, a fast car, something that I truly love and enjoy. The thing that scares me (as I stated in my post earlier) is that you are COMPLETELY at the mercy of an officer i.e. your word against his if he says you were "street racing." In my hometown (Nick can attest to this I'm sure) cops are guys with huge egos who make 25K a year and have nothing really to do, so when they see me, a young kid in a nice looking car, something nicer then probably any of them will ever own, they like to harrass you just because they can. I had my car for about 4 months before I came to Auburn and was pulled over 4 times, all of which were bullshit, all of which I was let go because there was no legitimate charge. The comments and treatment I got from the pigs was unbelieveable, but anyway I digress... if those guys had a chance to crush up any kids car that was nicer than their squad car, you better believe they would. Hazan you drive a freaking Lexus for godsakes, they would be all over you. This guy whos car they destroyed was probably a perfect example to kick this program off. I'm sure the guy probably did not deserve a license etc etc... Having a license is an extreme priveledge and I think it should be a lot tougher to get one and they should have graduated licenses (which they could make more revenue off of) but thats another argument for another day...
