View Full Version : Good place to do a banance/rotation
Whats a good, trustworthy place to get a balance and rotation done. They have to be able to put those square weights on the inside of the wheel, because i dont the weights showing on the outside.
I have a lifetime balance/rotation with Discount Tire, but the closest one is in Atlanta or something.

I'd assume that'd be the only way to balance a tire :D

None of us are big fans of stealing.... And he doesn't work at sears anymore :D
One of use has an air compressor if you need one. Of course as long as he gets it back :D

Honda heads can usually be taken off with a breaker bar and a socket set..
Just remember... You have an aluminum block work the bolts from the inside out (The inner 4 bolts first, then the outer 6 (I think it's a total of 10 bolts if I remember)). If you don't you might end up warping the block :D
I think some bastards stole my breaker bar when my stereo got stilen. . time to buy another one.
I tried to take off the cat with a socket set, but think i need to get it on a lift or have somebody help. I couldnt loosen the hangers from the rubber doo-dads.
I've got a HELM manual, and its got the tightening order and torque specs.
I should be getting a tracking # for my turbo stuff today. weee :)

Sears does rotations for free, if you bought your tires from them or not. To balance them I think it's around $10 a tire. They do have the square things which "static balance" the wheel. But since it's only on one side it is very inaccurate as far as making the wheel balanced. If you can get the normal weights on both sides, I would do that. It'll make it a lot more comfortable for highway driving.
EDIT: Oh yeah, make sure you watch those mother fuckers when they are putting your tires back on, if you don't they just use the impact gun and not use a torque wrench. I had to buy a $30 breaker bar to get my tires off last time.

Free? Thats cheap. I only let people work on my car if they agree to torque the wheels to 85-90 ft lbs by hand. Ive heard of shops breaking wheels before with those. Thanks for the info!

He's talk about removing a header not a head. If you need a breaker bar you are probably going to strip the studs.

You won't warp the head from taking the header off in any fashion. Get some deep wells if you don't have them already.
i havent tried to loosen them yet. im gonna treat the bolts with wd40 for a few days prior. if they dont go, i'll use some air tools.
Deep wells? think i got a set

Go get you a can of PB Blaster instead of WD40. Does a much better job of removing corrosion. You can get it at any auto parts store. Actually, I know Advance Auto Parts has a it on sale right now.
If you need help with your header give me a holla.
sweet, i'll get a can of that shat. i'll holla

Depending on how low your car is, most shops won't touch your car. I never seen your car so I don't know, but if you're car is anywhere low as mine, have fun trying to find a place. :D
My car is stock height, which is about 10 feet off the ground.
right now it looks like this

Oh, my.
Jess, you could always go to American Lube Fast for the weights. Hey, you might even get to see some nice cars up there.....

The 'square' weights are aka stick-on weights.
You can do a proper balance with them near the center of the wheel. But most shops the guys don't know how or don't care, that's why it doesn't always work out so great.
Patton Ford has a $50k balancer, it freaking rocks.
