View Full Version : WELLL I think I'm selling my WRX

Okay, okay. LOL. Here we go. I'll put this out in the open, since its obvious: Yeah, my dad has bought my cars. This means he has previously sacrificed on sportiness as long as it met his standards on reliability and safety (GTI/WRX did both of these).

The problem: I am not going to extensively modify/race/blowup/wreck my dads car to satisfy my need for speed. I want my own project car with my own money and do my own thing. This means I need to stop spending money on the WRX and start saving for my own second car.

The other problem: The WRX is not really my thing anyways. Oops.

The solution: I am going to try and resale my WRX to recoup all my losses. This means I am going to be looking for something I want to drive everyday with the money. I want it to be fairly comfy and it has to be safe and reliable. IT DOES NOT have to be fast, and in fact its better if its not all that fast.

Any suggestions on a comfy daily driver that would be around the price of an 03 WRX or cheaper? Whatever I get I will leave _STOCK_ except for a nice sound system (I love music!) and something like lowering springs for appearance.

Note that this is not a case of me not being satisfied with what I've been given, but rather me trying to split my hobbies off of my dads money and being independent in that manner (mutual benefits if I do this).

Let the flames and suggestions begin.

Actually, since you are only looking for a decent daily driver with performance not being the key issue...

I suggest a Honda Civic, Scion (choose your poison), or Mazda Protege. You can find any of these new or used for a good price, and they are all quite reliable and imho comfortable without falling into the luxury or pricy arena.

A two door Accord is a pimp ride if you are looking for a good daily driver. Fairly sporty as generic cars go. Mazda 6's are nice, I think 03 was the first year for those.

As long as you stay away from most domestics these days, I think it is kind of rare to get a shitty car. There are Metric Assloads* of good daily driver cars out there.

Wish I was sitting on the change to take the WRX off your hands.

Good luck wherever your car ventures may take you. I would suggest an SUV so you're not tempted, like a Cherokee/Pathfinder/Rodeo, something along those lines. What are you looking for for a project car? Lemme guess, a 240 haha.

Project car is down a long and patient road, so I dont know. As far as what I'm looking at, I have a few ideas. The car cannot have a turbo charger, because I dont want to be tempted to mod it, and I want japanese only!

FIRST CHOICE: Acura TL or CL Type S - A manual CL type S would be nice looking, comfy, and torquey with an LSD too, and no temptation to mod. A TL would have to be automatic, but four doors would be nice to carry everyone around.

WISH: I would love a manual IS300, but I think they are gonna be a few k out of the price range. Once again, little temptation to mod.

Other thoughts: I could afford another RSX-S, add CAI and springs, and call it a day.

But first I have to get my money out of the WRX - I hope that happens :/

If you don't want it to be fast, but still a nice daily driver, the new Mazda 3 is a great handling and pretty cool looking ride. You should be able to get a new one for less than the WRX, easily.

A friend of mine just got a really good deal on a Mazda 3 and absolutly loves it. He took me for a ride in it and it sounds like something you might be interested in. Lets be real, you do not want a RSX-S b/c the temptation to mod is too great. It will start small like a CAI, maybe exhaust, and the next thing you know you are going to want cams and a hondata. At least thats how i am. Just my opinion.

I say keep the WRX and leave the project car for after graduation. The WRX is safe, fun, has awd, and is quick. What more could you want? Just keep it man, projects are always fun when you think about them. They aren't that fun when you venture into building one with it as your daily driver. Hell, built the civic on the side and still got tired enough of it to sell it.

Adam, don't bother with an RSX, as said, it will be very tempting to mod. Hell ANY car to some extent will be tempting.

I actually like the idea of an SUV but anything comfy is expensive. I still vote 6th Gen. Accord, 5 speed I4 - 160HP... did the sedans come in manual tranny?... hopefully.

First off, I'm not sure I even want to go through with getting a "daily driver" style car.

But not matter what, I don't really like driving the WRX. In other words, even though its slower and FWD, I'd rather be modding an RSX-S than modding a WRX. :P

get an SUV or truck, WITH 4 wheel drive! trust me, offroading is some of the most fun i've EVER had with a vehicle...they're cheap, usually pretty reliable (certain ones), TONS of fun offroad, and you can carry tons of stuff...and then buy a project car to satisfy your speed needs!

OKAY guys, I have taken some of your advice, maybe where you didn't expect it.

I am not gonna try and get a project car any time soon - I just don't have the resources and time.

I regret buying the WRX over an RSX-S. I want to sell the WRX, buy the RSX-S, and start modding it this summer. The RSX-S isn't going to break when I mod it, its going to handle well, look better the WRX, and be more fun to drive. It wont take crazy mods to get it trapping 99mph either (the record on my WRX).

For a car enthusiast, the WRX is a more rational choice. But my emotions are with the RSX-S. It's destiny.

:steering:

NOW! LET THE FLAMES BEGIN!!!

Note: I want something RWD, but there isnt a RWD car that matches the price AND safety criteria. S14 would be my first choice if I was playing by my rules.

My opinion is you have no idea what you want and I really have no clue what you are talking about.

First you want a car not to mod so you want be messing up a car your dad bought, now you've turned the tables and want to get an RSX-S to mod. I'm confused.

What Brock said. This thread is pretty annoying to read, really. I'm going to stop now. :)

^Thats what im getting out of it. So your telling your dad that your getting a daily driver b/c you respect his money and wishes yet your going to mod it anyways? Sounds like what i told my dad just so i could get my car, he doesnt have to know about the mods.

I can see adam in an rsx though, i really could never really see him in the wrx. The interior wasnt nice enough the exterior wasnt clean enough to fit what i thought adams personality was like. I had a feeling his wrx wasnt going to be staying around for to long. Good luck on the sell, i hope you come out ahead.

On a lighter note, here comes another name change :P

Yeah I know, I'm a total mess. That's because I was thinking I could buy myself a second car, but honestly I don't have enough money, so I want to just replace the WRX with something I like better. *Shrug*

Honestly, I really don't like the WRX, and I am just trying to figure out a way to get rid of it. However, my was amazingly receptive to the idea of me selling the WRX if I could get the money back out of it, so it really doesn't matter anymore, so case closed.
