I bought a Dell 8250 for $100, minus a few parts. I'm going to try and fix it up into a fairly good PC. It's got a 2.0 processor in it right now. I'm getting some RAM. I found this on ebay:

Is this a fairly simple operation? I've only really done basic PC work, never replaced a processor. No idea what it involves.

Any advice is appreciated!

Replacing a CPU is cake.

Here's a guide that is AMD specific but most everything except for the socket designation will be the same:

Cliffnotes:
1. Pop off the heatsink clip
2. Remove heatsink
3. Swing up the release lever (which is usually brown or black and is on the side of the CPU socket.
4. Remove the CPU
5. Follow the steps in reverse to install the new CPU, while making sure their is still good thermal compound on the heatsink.
6. Also be sure to be careful about ESD.
