Cost will be $60 even. You can paypal me via Type_R_Integra0148@yahoo.com. Please send me a message with the payment including your full name and car.
A SNELL 95 or better helmet will be required but hopefully those that already have helmets will be kinda enough to share if there is a shortage (given that the helmet fits properly of course).
Your car must be able to pass a tech inspection, which means it must be COMPETELY cleaned out, including the trunk and glove box. Brakes must be in good working condition, battery secured, road worthy tires, no fluid leaks, suspension and chasis in good shape.
If you leave the track twice (as in all four tires leave the pavement) you are done for the day.
No drag racing or any similiar stupid shit.
You WILL be required to work part of the day by either flagging or standing on station as a spotter with fire extinguisher in hand.
YOU will be responsible if something happens to your car.
Only yellow cars have the right to be the fastest on the track. If your car isn't yellow get the hell out of the way. :P

Open face helmet - based on some research concerning injuries sustained while wearing full face helmets in airbag equipped cars. Better safe than sorry, even if it looks stupid.

Open face helmet - based on some research concerning injuries sustained while wearing full face helmets in airbag equipped cars. Better safe than sorry, even if it looks stupid.
Just to clarify, you are saying that a "rally style" open face helmet is safer in airbag equipped cars?
Matt Harris
06-20-2005, 01:25 AM
I'm not saying that it factually is. Just that research has been done that seems to point to that being the case. And that the SCCA has even considered a rule change because of that research. I think more testing needs to be done, but either way it makes sense to me that i'd rather take the brunt of an airbag to the face rather than a ridgid helmet in the chin. It's probably not a major issue, but like I said, better safe than sorry. If I already owned a closed face helmet prior to reading the research I probably wouldn't be motivated to buy an open faced. But since I read before buying it did factor into my decision.
Swine
06-20-2005, 01:36 AM
I would probably prefer open face becuase a full face does limit some perefrial(sp?) vision. My helmet is basically a light mx helmet(meant for downhill mountain biking), it does pass all snell regulations.

I'm probably gonna buy a open face helmet, it may look the ghey...but I think it will easier to see, I've ridden dirt bikes with closed face and it's a bee-och to see.

G-force Hybrid helmet. It's an "autocross" type helmet which is full face but with very large cut sides for excellent visibility. It's only $199 and is probably the helmet I'm going to go with.

For open faced, the Bell Mag 4 is one of the most popular on the market. That's what I have. http://www.thebellstore.com/images/Auto/Mag4Bk.jpg

this is just my opinion of coarse but i have worn both many times and i really can't tell much of a difference in the visability of open and full face helments. i think it just gives you the illusion of it being more closed in because it covers the face. really the veiwing radius is about the same.
adam p
06-20-2005, 12:19 PM
Hmm, I am looking at getting that cheaper open faced helmet, but how do I know what size I need? Should I go somewhere to try on helmets? But where? I am in birmingham so I'm not sure what to do.

06-20-2005, 08:49 PM
If you are track racing you should disable your airbags anyway... right? I don't own a car with bags, but that's what I would do. Nothing like a off-course causing minor damage to your car, but $1500 in airbag replacement cost.
Matt Harris
06-20-2005, 09:02 PM
theoretically an airbag shouldn't go off except for certain types of impacts, and skittering around backwards in the grass shouldn't do it.

adam p

I dunno man, in Initial D, the guys without ABS always lost!
Me thinks if you disable abs and go to hot into a corner a 4 wheel lock is gonna happen followed with a tour of the infield/tire wall. You ain't out there to take FTD, leave your abs fuse in and just drive.

Have fun guys. If you've never been there it's a cool track, but there's not much closeby. There's really only 1 gas station even worth going to. So bring food and drinks for the whole day.
Also, if coming from AU, think about taking 431 to 281 if you can; take a look at a map, but you can get on 281 from 431 just before I20, and it will take you all the way to Hwy 21 (same hwy as the track). You go through Mt. Cheaha, tallest point in the state, and it's a helluva drive. Worth a minor detour. Must be one of if not the best road in the state.

All very true, nothing nearby. Few fast food places about 10 min away in the small town. SuperWalmart is about 15 the other way right by I20. But that road he's talking about is bad ass. I say we hit it up.

In reference to your earlier question, Brock, it sounds like everybody pretty much has their own food and drink taken care of. If people want to bring a little extra for others just in case then that would be good, but it pretty much sounds like food will take care of itself.

I've already said it several times over. The reason has nothing to do with me and you arguing back on forth. We could do that for years. There have been MUCH worse flame battles on here than that one.
The reason, like I stated earlier, is because you admitted to PURPOSELY JUST TRYING TO START SHIT BECAUSE YOU THOUGHT YOU COULD GET A RILE OUT OF ME. You can call out someones BS, flame somebody for doing something gay if it is your true opinion, whatever, but it is my personal belief that part of the reason this message board has went to shit is people purposely trying to poke a little jab just because they know it might get something started.
I love to argue and debate and will call out BS when I see it, but one thing I never do is just purposely say "hmmm I really don't like Vdubzdizzy, let's see if I can get him to sound a little ticked off".
Turning your story around again and saying that you didn't really mean it just throws more BS into the fire and was frankly too late. I don't want somebody at an event I'm trying to run that will possibly purposely try and start shit just for the hell of pissing someone off.
Disagree with or don't like me at all? That's perfectly fine, everyone has their opinion. Doing it for no reason but to cause trouble means I don't want to, nor have to deal with your ass.
Hell I tell you what. I'll try to meet you in person and we can hang out before the next event I set up. If you are cool and I read you wrong I'll let you do the next event for completely free.
Until then please keep your insults on my reason for the track event to yourself. I assure you I didn't waste $500 fucking dollars to not run my car just to look cool in front of a few people that I've never met nor am friends with. I could cancel the event right now simply for the fact that I'm not going to be able to run my car, but I'm not because I know that everyone will still have a blast and me participating has nothing to do with that.

I've read through all the posts and couldn't find this information. Sorry if I missed it. How many spectators can you have and is there a fee?
I'd be interested in going and watching/filming this event. I've always loved road racing and have never gotten to do, so it would be good experience to watch you guys and learn a little. That way when I do finally have a the funds to buy a car that is built for actually turning, I won't be completely in the dark. Anywho, if there isn't a limit on spectators or you have some open spectator slots, I'd be interested in playing hookie from work on Monday and driving up there with the Auburn crew.

Spectators are welcome as long as we keep it confined to the club. There is no spectator fee.
List of essentials per Matt's request (which was a good idea).
1. A safe car that will pass a basic inspection.
2. Rated Helmet.
3. Fire extinguisher.
4. Long pants and covered toe shoes.
5. Sun screen.
6. Water, water, and more water.
7. Basic tools.
8. Extra fluids (brake, oil, etc) and catch containers for them (aka drain pan).
9. Trash bags for all the junk you'll have to empty from your car.
Track opens at 8:00am and the drivers meeting will be at 8:30am.

I'd like to leave Auburn around 7:00-7:30am...we can meet at the gas station on Wrights Mill and 280...if everyone knows where that is...across from the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course Entrance...
That is Shelton Mill, not Wrights Mill. 280 and Wrights Mill never meet.

Not to be Betty Bummer here, but it looks like 40% chance of percipitation on monday. What do we do if it rains, does anybody get money back (At least you Brock?), do we get to reschedule? If it looks like rain do we drive out there or just stay home?
And why am I the only person that asks for information? :D

I didn't know all you guys had race slicks... ;)
If it rains, then you drive in the wet!! As long as its not a downpour.

Haha, well I mean, I'd be fine of course, driving a Subaru. I was just worried about...lesser...cars ;)

Like I've already told you I was waiting on the paypal check which takes 1-2 weeks. It just arrived yesterday. I'm sorry that I didn't use my magic powers to speed up paypal and the mailing system. If you want the money as fast as possible I can give it to someone you trust at the track event. If not you are going to have to wait on the mailing system which I do not control.
This has already been explained to you before. Use PM's to contact me if you feel the need instead of trying to upset this thread.

Here are the directions for those of you that haven't already looked it up.
From Atlanta
Take I-20 to exit 185 (Oxford) and travel South on Highway 21 for approximately 12 miles. TGPR is on the left.
From Birmingham
Take I-20 to exit 173 (Eastaboga), also known as the Studkey's exit. Head South on Highway 398 approximately one quarter mile. Take a sharp left immediately past the Shell station on the left onto Highway 399. Bear to the left to remain on 399. The road to the immediate right as you make the turn is Highway 005. It will get you TGPR but it takes longer. Stay on Highway 399 until it dead ends into Highway 21 (approximately 7.5 miles). Take a left onto Highway 21 for 2.5 miles. TGPR is on the right.
From Talladega
Take Highway 21 North approximately 8 miles. TGPR is on the right.
