Best autocross event ever pretty much sums it all up. Here are the main reasons.
1. I got around 15 runs in.
2. It was the stickiest surface I have driven on.
3. The course was the safest I have been on.
4. It was fast. I hit third gear and them some. Maxed out second gear against the rev limiter on a couple other spots as well.
5. It was long. Average run lasted over a minute.
6. When I wasn't on the auto-x course I ran over to play on the airport runway drag racing my car up and down it.
7. My car and me freaking kicked butt.
Downsides:
1. I had around half treadwear left on my SO-3's. Now the front tires are completely bald (no I'm not joking).
2. Freaking spun the car at 65mph. Plowed about 4 cones. Caught it in mid drift but it snapped back the other way which shot me back across the course to plow through another set of cones leaving the front of my car with cone streaks.
3. Basically the same thing again but a cone that was caught under the car ripped off my wheel liner. Thank goodness for zip ties.
I started out trying to figure out the course which took me several runs. It just felt too fast for an auto-x course so I was always looking for a turn when I was suppose to just keep it pegged. Found out that my LSD freaking kicks ass. I would find my self understeering into a high speed sweeper. I'd punch the gas and a split second later it would pull me back to the inside like nobody's business. Tire pressure was a major issue. After a few runs I found myself pushing severly. Checked my tires and I could see how much they had been rolling. Aired them up pretty high and went and ran my fastest time of the day. Car also seemed to be more stable with a passenger as a counter weight and I ran my fastest time with one.
We had 6 official runs and around 10 unofficial timed runs in which everycar ran. After that the runs were still timed but not everyone ran. On the official runs I am unsure of my ranking. I believe it to be around 4th place overall. The SCCA official was in my class driving a freaking new Altima. He was fast as hell. Not sure if I beat him in my first six runs but by my 10th run I was more than 2 seconds faster.
Overall the only car that I know for a fact beat me was an S2000. It looked lightly prepped. The driver was an decently experienced road course driver. Not sure if the S2000 was running slicks or not(I meant to check and freaking forgot). There was also and Shelby Cobra Replica built to SCCA racing specs with roll bar, fuel cell, and all the other goodies. I'm not sure if I beat him or not but we were very close. Also took out a Miata on racing slicks by a couple of seconds.
For reference the S2000's best was a 59.1. Mine was a 60.9.
You guys missed out big time on this one. Nothing but fun all day long. SCCA season is over until next year. Starts up again in Feburary.
