Oh boy.

The story this time follows "Shaun Boswell" from the U.S. street racing subculture over to the world of Japanese drifting. Neither Vin Diesel (who co-starred in the first film, but not the second) nor Paul Walker (who co-starred in both) will appear in the movie.
"For his first unsuccessful foray in drift racing," Universal revealed in a press release announcing the new film's inevitability, "Shaun unknowingly takes on D.K., the 'Drift King,' with ties to the Yakuza, the Japanese crime machine. The only way he can pay off the debt of his loss is to venture into the deadly realm of the Tokyo underworld, where the stakes are life and death."
The automotive star of the film, however, may wind up being a rather innocuous-looking '67 Ford Mustang fastback that was lined up next to Mitch Allread's radical '68 Toyota Corona. Rumors were flying among the participants there that the car was destined to wind up with the drivetrain from a Nissan Skyline GT-R — including its twin-turbocharged inline six — under its sheet metal as an important plot point in the film. But rumors fly when facts are few, and the filmmakers themselves are keeping quiet.
Will the next FATF movie bring out a new ricer subculture in drifting? What are the predictions for Drifting, the tuning industry, and import enthusiast culture in general?
To answer that I think first there needs to be an answer of how much influence did the original movie actually have, and how much of it was already there and simply appeared in the film.
I'm scared.
Note to self: Buy S13 before the movie's release

yeah when i first saw this a few months ago i cringed. does drifting really need a stronger ricer sub-cultrue? regardless I believe the APR widebody EVO's will also be appearing in the film though the prominance of them in the film is unknown to me.

Great. Now, instead of 16yo morons who attempt to street race in a relatively straight line, we get 16yo morons trying to drive around corners in a controlled slide.
What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
OH! I heard Driftwell was going to be the driver for all the stunts in this gheyfest...but he broke a half-shaft.
that new veilside RX-7 with the entirely different front end & headlights is gonna be in it too...mass confusion will set out among ricers.

Well, in CERTAIN courses such as gymkhana styled ones, it IS actually faster to drift.

The thing is, the lines between "Racing" and "Drifting" will be blurred. Ricers will be arguing about how drifting is faster, trying to justify it as more than it is. Also, what kind of effects will this have with law enforcement and drifting (Not that I really think drifting onthe street is a good idea).
The good thing? Any idiot can floor his saturn in a straight line trying to "street race." Actual drifting will require actual skill, and everyone will always be able to recognize it no matter what smack the ricers talk.
I just hope it doesn't make a mockery out of the surprisingly authentic/well handled/whatever drift phenomenae that is growing now.

Hopefully they will actually show people who are good at drifting. And hopefully it will show them doing it well. This MIGHT downplay what ricers do, when they say 'man I just drifted and it was great.'

I think that's my fault... I always list aSpeed as my 'webpage' on other forums in the info field, and I started posting on a younger forum in Birmingham. You know how kids are... I know I was that way at one time so it doesn't really bother me. You can't really blame kids for being ignorant, as long as they grow up in a timely fashion.

Yeah I mean I think alot of people were fresh outta the ricer ranks (ME) when they got on here, but that's why this place rules b/c you grow up fast :)

I predict a huge media frenzy about drifting after lets say...15 kids kill themselves the night of the movie.

Exactly... kids going straight at 80+ mph is no where as dangerous as kids going 80+ mph around corners

Darwin FTW!!!
Worst thing of all is that they put an RB25 in that fastback stang :(
There was a riot and murders happening over at turbomustangs.com over it.
They then promptly found the owner and removed his scrotum.

WHAAAAAAA
Bunch of cry babies because they did not think of it first. :D
I don't get why people get bent out of shape when someone else puts a different motor in a car? I could see it if it was a total downgrade, like a Enzo with a 1.8T, but that motor makes plenty o power for the fastback.
:meatwad:
Well, here's the thing that so many muscle car purists live for.
The sound.
Now, granted skylines are pretty sick sounding cars BUT
When an old mustang cranks up, you HAVE to hear that V8 rumble.
It wasn't that this engine is probably lighter than a big V8 or that (from the looks of it) makes quite a bit more power than the average V8. It's that that deep rumble is part of the allure of a muscle car and they took that away.
