So I drove to LaGrange this morning and took Microsoft MCP 70-291, *cough, for the 2nd time, cough...lol* and PASSED. This was my 7th MCP exam and gets me the MCSE. I may go for a specialzation in security or messaging, but I am gonna get good and drunk tonight to celebrate!!! I have studied long and hard for these, but it does feel good to see the fruit of my labor.
Thanks to the C1ty of Au3urn (taxpayers) for paying for these certs, they are a requirement for my job.
If anyone is in the process of taking these certs, I can give some really good pointers that will help a LOT...just lemme know if you are.

I had always thought of going MCSD (which shares some MCSE courses), but considering the fact that it isn't really applicable to what I want to do now (as opposed to back then) it doesn't make sense.
However, I do know how difficult those exams are. CONGRATULATIONS! Going to go get A+? :)

Congratulations!!! I've been thinking about getting my MCP just so I have something MS. Any tips on which is the easiest test?
What's your job, btw? Any other certs?
A+ is the easiest.
Hey Phil, shoot me a PM with any helpful advice. I'm studying for the Exchange 2K3 cert but have really no time to study at the moment but once I do get some time and stuff slows down at work, I'd like a strong game plan on what to take and what to study.

A+ is the easiest.
It's also a waste of time. LOL.....I was asking which MCP exam was easiest. Something I can spend a couple hours studying and then take.

Yes, I will begin studying for A+ and probably Security+ next week.
One of the developers here at the City just got his MCSD, it's 3 tests....he did well...passed all the first time.

You thinking of Exchange 70-284, 70-285? If I were just taking 1 I'd go for 284. From what I can find, it looks like there is 150 questions for that test. Compare that to the 390 questions for 70-291 that I just passed, much easier IMO.

Unless you are a freaking genius with photo-chopish like memory, you will prolly have to spend a couple hours a night for a week or two studying...just my personal experiance.
I believe the 70-210 (2000) and 70-290(2003) are the 2 MCP certs, the others are MCSA (system admin)...70-290 is like 450 questions in teh test bank....that is gonna take some time to digest all the info.
70-270 is the MCSA XP cert...its about 200 questions, but it's XP =/...probably not worth it if you not going for the MCSE.

I work for The City of Auburn IT dept, my title is Network Engineer...got a BS in MIS from Auburn...daily I handle all things PC and server related. Also I handle the Finance/HR software implementation...3 years rollout :O ...one year of the implementation left in May...
This is my first cert...I am gonna start my A+ nezt week...should take about 2-3 weeks then I'll test.
After that I'll start the CCNA material...this, since I don't really do any router/switch configuring at this point will be very foriegn info to me. I will probably spend the better part of 2-3 months learning this stuff.
I guess I got it pretty good, any related cert...which is all MS, Cisco, CompTIA...possible more if justifible will be paid for by the city...this IMO is a really nice benefit!

I would still have my former job if managment had been realistic and given even a 2yr time to design and roll out new software. As it is, they have been live for a year and a half and it still runs like shit. Oh well not my problem anymore. It is cool that you have been given what looks to be ample time to get a system in place.
One thing the City of Auburn does well is IT. That has been a good shop for as long as I have been involved with IT in this area. It is something to be proud of, even if it is somewhat transparent to most people around here. It seems to be a good place to work as well.
What software package is the city going with for the finance/HR stuff? It is probablly burried on the website somewhere, but I am too lazy to look at the moment. :)

My tax dollars at work! This is not sarcasm at all, as I see this as a good thing. That is a damn fine benefit.
Congrats on the MSCE! How long did it take you from the your 1st test until you completed the requried test?
Good luck on the CCNA. You should have no trouble with that.
