What's up guys. I'm still at home. Since I'm not in classes this semester I'm working down here, probably going to lease out the apartment next semester as well and finish up my basics down here at Faulkner before heading back up to Auburn. Money has become a problem but its looking better. Hopefully I'll be coming up to chill often.
Anyway after work yesterday Tyler and me stopped by to test drive a new GT. Told the lady I had $75,000 to spend so they got the keys right away. Tyler hopped in the passenger seat and we were off. First thing I noticed was that the car sounded VERY weak at idle. A big dissapointment. Once I got on the throttle though that all changed. I'm not a huge mustang fan but these things sound REALLY good at full scream. Tyler was shocked at how good it sounded too. Makes you feel like a red blooded american. Acceleration was good (I'm not use to low end power off idle), not as fast as it feels and sounds but its definitely a low 14 second to high 13 second car.
Sorry to say the interior needs alot of work. Can the guages be any smaller? I have watches bigger than the tach and speedo on this thing (seriously I bet the tach is only 4" in diameter). I like to sit close for being as tall as I am and my knee kept hitting the dash when I got my feet on the pedals like I wanted forcing me to sit back a little farther than I like. No big deal really. The shifter is fine if you like them bent into the shape of the number 5. It seriously needs alot of attention. Throws were only 2ft long. Bottom line is a new shifter would be on my wish list right away.
Handling was weird. The car feels unconnected and I felt nervous taking corners fast. Feels like you are riding on the car instead of in it if you know what I mean. Tyler said he felt nervous in it as well. The truth is that it was plenty capable of taking corners fast you just had to bite your lip and do it. Car has plenty of grip and I was able to heel and toe it right away coming into a tight corner. I stood on the gas coming out but the back end didn't step out. The car just gripped and shot out of the corner nicely. Car feels 10 times better coming out of a corner than into it. Brakes good be better. They are mushy then all of a sudden become rock hard.
Bottom line: I can see why people buy them. Not my first choice for the price but it was fun. I would rather have it as a drag car anyway so in that sense its handling was just fine.

the new mach ones are pretty cool too, but the interior is crap. i like the old school wheels.

Imagine that car with no cats and aftermarket mufflers then hop in my car with me for the REAL ear candy :D :D :D
But unfortunately, yeah the interior is bland. But then again, what american car DOESN'T have a bland interior. Hell, my dad's 01 vette's interior is just....blah. America makes sports cars to go fast and that's pretty much it. But for $30,000 for a STOCK 12 second cobra, who can argue with that??

Shit I'd ride on a milk crate if the car was fast. I guess when it takes 15 seconds to go down the 1/4 you need a good interior or you would get a bit sore on that calendar ride

Bwahahah, good one!
The most badass cars are cars that look good, have a good interior, and haul ass...i.e. Mclaren F1, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Viper...etc

The only fast car in that list is the f1 and it only runs mid elevens not a deal for a million bucks. Yes they are nice cars but the are supercars other than a viper which the average driver can somtimes get high twelves out of. Ferrari and viper interiors are very spartan anyway porshe is a perfect example.
Ferrari and Viper spartan???? The 550 Maranello is known more for its touring than racing....due to the "italian" leather seats, great ergonomics, and plush interior. The only thing spartan about a viper is space, yeah it isn't lavished with leather everywhere, but it is quite far from a roll cage and metal. FWIW, most vipers hit high 12's.......thats the drivers fault. One must not forget that while they are running high 12's, they are still doing it at almost 120mph(116~120mph depending on conditions, go to the viper club of america boards). Unlike your mustang, they can't get out of the hole on stock rubber, so 11sec passes are hard to come by, however, when the slicks go on........mid 11's all day long.

The cars aren't made for drag racing anyway :?

No you are very right charlie they are not made for drag racing. There is also no fucking way a stock viper will run mid elevens even on slicks Ive seen them at the track. Seen not read on the internet. They would only go elevens with a top 3% driver maybe. This is all stupid because you started to talk about cars that are 60g+ when it started with a 24g mustang. You just dont get the point its called bang for your buck. Interior is not what is important.

I'm not sure what the point of this post is now, but as far as interiors go, they're a pretty important factor for most people when buying a car. It's the only thing you get to look at while you drive, so unless it's a car you drive 1 day a week, I think the way it looks and feels matters. This goes for all cars, no matter how fast or slow.

My God Does anyone agree that performance is the most important thing. I mean as long as an interior gives you good driving positions and connection with the car thats all that is needed out of it. Driving is everything.

Automobile = Performance + Driving Feel + Exterior Aesthetics + Interior Aesthetics
That's your math lesson for the day. Now go do your homework!

I guess you missed that lesson with your slow money pit
Anyway this is gay now because we have all gone in different directions with are cars so we are never going to agree

Well thankfully my car is faster than a new GT and its interior is way more performance oriented. I wasn't putting the stang down. Just IMO its interior offers poor road feel, isn't comfortable in cornering situations, and numbs the driving experience.

My homework reveals that the definition for a automobile is correct. However, I drive a sports car.
Sports car = Performance + Driving Feel + Exterior FUNCTIONALITY + Interior FUNCTIONALITY

ActiveAero I was not ripping on your car I have complete respect with what you have done. I was also not defending the new mustang I'm not brand loyal. However both the mustang and DSM's have shitty interiors and they have quite a following. Im just throwing that out there.

DSM? Now I'm confused because I drive an Integra. Did I miss something? I didn't take it the wrong way. Just making sure you didn't think I ran 15's.

ahhh not another one of these damn debates. Drive what you want. And I would laugh if I ever saw an F1 at a drag strip.

There are millions of people who would have your balls for that statement...not everyone likes driving around a 12yr old stang that only goes fast. How about all those luxurious sedans that are sold....Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Jaguar, etc.... You think they give a ratass about hauling ass in the 1/4....no. They would take there cars over a 7sec mustang any day because their cars are comfortable, stylish, and have GREAT interiors. Not everyone has your views, learn to accept this fact or keep your flame suit near by.

Your calling a whole bunch of viper owners liars if your saying they don't hit 11's on slicks

Please... get out of here with that ford rhetoric... Every one expects a mustang to be fast, so don't think you're something special cause yours is. Besides, didnt ford phase out the 5.0s cause they were shitty motors? ;)

Well now that we have the understanding the every car on this board is slow... except for mustangs that is. I would like to make it clear that I would rather drive a 13sec (or 14sec) VW/Audi product over an 11sec 5.0 mustang any day of the week. A money pit it may be, but it's also a much cooler car.
things are always handled better when talking not typing 8)

Exactly OB, I'm not sure why dsm's got brought up in the lousy interior dept. They're not very pretty on the inside but the ergonomics are pretty good, the guages are huge, and everything is right where you would expect it. I think it's the seats that do it though, they're superb.

Too bad his Passat on stock mode is not much slower if any than a stock 5.0. He ran a 15.3 which would give a stock 5.0 a good run for its money. Besides with his minimal mods of intake, chip, and exhuast he is faster than most 5.0's in a very sleeper of a car.
I've driven both DSM's ( drove a 91 GSX a good bit) and several stangs and the DSM's interior is much better.
Going fast in a straight line is nice but going fast in the corners is 10 times better. If I had a choice between an 8 second mustang and a "slow" 14 second SCCA or NASA prepped ITR I would take the "slow" car in a second.

Heyyy. i've ridden in and driven a 2001 mustang.. What a cheap piece of shit (granted it was the v6, but it had all the "options")
The leather seats were alright, the ergonomics sucked a fat one, and the nice big plastic dash with mustang in cursive written across it could have stayed at the dealer ship.
I'll take my pos 87 740 over any mustang any day

That's what you think  They did ice down the intake and remove the front sway bar though. But that doesn't change the fact that it was stock. I like the interior of japanese cars a lot more than mine though but I LOVE the interior of the Audi's.
Also, I think that morgan and you guys are all on totally different wavelengths. Supercars aren't meant to go down the drag strip night after night. They're meant to please middle age guys with more money than they know what to do with. I've seen 9 sec. 60's volkswagon beetles. You think joe billionaire cares about that? hell no. he pays for the atmosphere that the car delivers also. I need to read the rest of this thread before I say anything else though.

Hmm...link works for me. I wish the dumb asses in the AU IT dept could get their shit straight with my public HTML folder. Anyways, it's an article where they drag tested a new GT and the times went from 14.9 down to a 13.72. They did have good track conditions and a good driver too. I've handed a couple of new GT's their asses at the track myself. :D Most of em can't get much better than mid 14's. But then again, the last time I ran my car was in September and the humidity and temp. were outrageous. Aside from a rebuilt tranny and hopefully within the next few weeks a rebuilt rear end, who knows what goodies the winter shall bring.
And what the hell does gh3y mean?? :bj: I've got a whole folder of pics that I wish I could post in the various threads but I'll spare Adam all the time it would take him to go lock all the threads as a result (not to mention save me from having to wear a bullet proof vest to the meetings :enforce: ) Speaking of which, when are we gonna start meeting again? Tuesday? I'll be sporting the mighty 2K Accord EX BABY!!
