Who here has been following E3?

The PS3 didn't really get any response from the media, and was real lackluster. Gamespy said it best.

The fallout from the announcement of the PS3's release date and price point seemed to color what was otherwise an event that seemed to elicit little enthusiasm or fanfare from the audience outside of polite applause. Sony seems to have stolen the thunder back from Nintendo's Wii announcement with the conference, but it remains to be seen how the buzz will impact the publishing juggernaut at E3.

Seriously, $500 for a 20GB PS3 and $600 for a 60GB PS3? That's quite expensive. I don't think it will sell as much as they are saying it will, and I'm thinking it may be a flop in the long-run. They have too much riding on Blu-Ray, and the PS3 (at this point) is obviously copying Microsoft and Nintendo too much.

The most exciting thing I thought was the live coverage of the Nintendo conference. I seriously can't wait for the Nintendo Wii, that thing is going to be so much fun. With at least 27 launch titles and the Virtual Console with thousands of classic games, Sony is going to have a hard time beating it. Oh yea, it'll be between $200 and $300.

I will be gettin a ps3 as well, mainly because the only games I will purchase are the GT series, and the TER series. Hell I bought a psp just for GT Mobile, even though it hasn't even come out yet.

If we really look at things the PS3 really isn't any more expensive than the Xbox360. The HD-DVD add on for the 360 is another $100, Sony is just including Blu-Ray IN the system from the get go since the games actually take advantage of it unlike the HD-DVD drive for the 360. It also has twice the hard driver space as well so IMO there is nothing really to freak out about over the Xbox360 at least.


That being said I've been cheering for Nintendo for a while now. I have far more interest in the Wii than any other system.

I'm definitely a sony fan-boi, and I couldnt agree with you more. It really will be the best. The 360 is just a slightly upgraded Xbox as far as I can see, and the Wii probably won't sell much anyway, regardless of how bad-ass it is, I'm just a huge fan of the awesome games Playstation always has.

I'm personally rooting for the Nintendo Wii, that thing is just so bad ass and will be the first next-gen console I will own.

Sony is on very dire straights, with their "media buzz" overwhelmed by the blackhole that is the Nintendo Wii and the Microsoft kiosk. I was talking to my friend that was there, and he said the Sony booths were noticeabl... thin. While still generating traffic, not nearly as much as Microsoft and Nintendo were generating. Maybe they have something to say later on in E3? They better do something fast, because Sony is losing out big.

That's news to me, wow! A basic PS3 for $399? The announcement said $499 and $599, iirc. Still... the PS3 has lost out on a large amount of developer support. The majority of their launch titles will consist of multi-platform games, nothing really exclusive.

It's looking like Sony dug itself to a hole, and it's going to be hell for them. They got nothing but an uphill battle ahead.

Which isn't happening, rumors abound everywhere that FFXII is the last FF to be on the PS3. They are instead going in favor of the Nintendo Wii (as is being shown by the increased presence of Final Fantasy games on Nintendo systems). Also keep in mind, almost all of the creative genius behind the Final Fantasy series left Square-Enix to form their own studio Mistwalker. Mistwalker has a three-game exclusive contract for the XBox 360 to develop RPGs... these were the guys behind Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Secret of Mana, etc.

If you're correct in your statement, then you meant to say FFXIII because it was revealed at E3... other than that, FFXII isn't even on PS3. Increased presence on Nintendo (that one crystal chronicles game)? Switching to Nintendo? I haven't been keeping up with FF ever since I beat X and skipped X-2 and Online, so can I have some sources for this information, please?

I stand corrected, as apparently the article I saw concerning the Square-Enix and Sony contract did not take into consideration the E3 announcements.

The Square-Enix and Sony exclusivity contract for certain franchises is "up for renewal" the end of next year, and this is what I was going by. Apparently Square-Enix is guarunteeing at least two more Final Fantasy games on the PS3... you'll be surprised how much more Square-Enix will be supporting the Nintendo Wii in the next year or so.

A lot of third-party developers have abandoned Sony, due to the extremely high royalty rates... horrible treatment... piss-poor devkits... inferior hardware... I could keep going on and on and on and on.

The games industry is where I know my business :)

GTA4 was announced during the MS press conference as being an XBox 360 exclusive for a limited time, and knowing typical Microsoft contract lengths to this effect that is about 6mos.

I remember reading about Spore a few months ago and it didn't sound anywhere near as cool as it does now. I saw the interview with Will Wright on G4 yesterday and that is definitely THE game I will buy this year.

Just got a call from one of my friends at E3, as he's a developer I got a little bit more input from him.

He was decidedly unimpressed with this years showings... he said almost all of the games were the same and the Nintendo Wii was "meh".

The only thing he said to get excited about was the new Crytek engine (earlier revisions of this engine powered Far Cry).

I'm excited about Spore and I still think the nintendo looks pretty neat. It's in an entirely different class than the xbox, PS3 but it's cool in it's interactivity.
