As you can probably guess by the title, it has happened again. I was getting ready to replace the motor mount (that has been destroyed by 3 previous tranny rebuilds because it was the only mount holding up the engine for weeks at a time) when I noticed fluid on the sub-frame and bell housing of the transmission. There were also small puddles of the fluid on the ground where I had been parking for the past couple of days. As soon as I smelled it I knew exactly what it was... fucking gear oil :enforce: .
It's a really slow leak because there wasn't much build up of fluid inside the bell housing and the puddles under the car are relatively small. Either way, the tranny has to come back out again so I can figure out exactly where the gear oil is coming from.
I have no clue why this keeps happening. My theories for the leaking gear oil this time are that the weld from R&R has cracked (not likely), a bad seal, or a spider gear decided to shoot through the bell housing again.
If the diff blew again, I'm probably going to resort to getting a new tranny or hopefully be able to convince my parents that a Quaife LSD is the best alternative.
The only cause for all these tranny problems that I can think of is that the busted motor mount let the engine move around too much and caused the halfshafts to put huge amounts of force on the spider gears causing them to snap. The motor mount has been busted since the first tranny rebuild, but I don't know if such a small problem like that could break all of these diffs... any guesses?
