My 3rd LS1 has arrived in Lanett.
I don't yet know the specs on it (mileage/year) but I should w/i the next hour or so.
My plans?
Sunday morning = getting the motor ready to come out
Sunday evening = pulling the motor out
Monday morning = putting the next motor in
Monday afternoon = hauling ass
I'm hoping this extensive itinerary will be expedited (anyone want some beer?)
My friend G will be joining me, but I could always use more hands (like lineing up the bellhousing b/c I really really don't want to bother pulling the tranny out) and wisdom.
I'm hoping it will be down to something more like this
Sunday morning = strip motor down
Sunday midday = pull motor and put next one in
Sunday evening = fire it up
All of Monday = haul ass
To explain for those that don't know:
After 40 miles of driving, the junkyard motor (that thankfully has a 6 month warranty) now has piston slap and I'm taking them up on their warranty.

I was afraid of that  Glad to hear you got another one under warranty though. I'd be interested to see what the hell happened with your old motor. You had an oil pressure gauge on the motor didnt you? Maybe your LS1 thought it was a 6G72 for a second and decided to spin a bearing
EDIT: Oh and I'd definately be down for the swap.

Yeah, It still sits at 40psi which is normal so I'm pretty sure it wasn't a lack of oil.

How many miles on this one? What year is it? I take it getting your money back was not an option.

the mileage is not known because I have not yet looked at the card that comes with the motor.
From what I understand, there aren't any problems with the 99's.
They actually have larger injectors from what I've read. I'm keeping my LS6 intake... am I missing something?

A 99 will on average have over 100K miles by now. Even if the car was rarely driven the motor is essentially 8 years old considering it was built in early 1998 for the 99 model year. In essence what you paid for originally is not what they are giving you as a replacement. It is like purchasing a brand new 02 Vette, and then having it be totalled and getting a 99 Vette as a replacement. While they are the same displacement, the 02 has better parts and a few more years of development behind it where as the 99 is will have more mileage which in my book isn't a good replacement considering you paid for a 2002, found out it was an 01, and now have a 99.
Just my .02, I just don't want to see you having the same issues again, and I know for a fact that the 99's had very weak springs, and pushrods. Reving a 99 anything over 5200 RPM while under load is bad news, that may be true for the 02's as well but the 99's definately have that as their weakest link.

I'd offer to help, but after sitting in front of Cary Hall all Saturday afternoon/evening, I don't think I'd be much help. lol PM me a cell and if I'm alive on Sunday I'd be more than will to help. Lanett is like 25 miles away right? And anyone that wants to stop by Cary Hall before during and after the game, I'll be there and sloshed and willing to take shots.

Well...
I got sick Saturday morning and used Sunday to recover.
Started pulling the motor this morning(Monday). Finally got everything ready, motor out and new motor almost ready to go in around 1:30, but I was really unsure of the clutch. It doesn't appear to have much life left at all.
The thing is... I was told this was a NEW Textralia clutch with a lightened alum flywheel.... which is true. Both are in there, but I am unsure of the life left on the clutch.
Decided to finish up the job next weekend so that I have time to get a new clutch, but when I went to ls1tech to research the Textralia clutch, it turns out that even when new, there is less than a dime's width of material between the rivets and the clutch surface. Granted, it feels like quite a bit less than a dime's width but I'm not sure of how long the special material will last. I've read of guys on ls1tech with 600+rwhp hammering on this clutch with no problems. I don't see why after only having put maybe(supposedly) 100 miles with 320wrhp, I should have any problems.
cliffs: Didn't get the motor back in b/c of maybe needing new clutch. This is supposed to be a high dollar top-shelf strong-as-hell clutch. There does not appear to be much material left on there, but even when "new" there isn't supposed to be a lot.
What to do?
This is a pic of a brand new one.

And mine looks like it may have a little bit less material but does not appear to be very worn at all.
I guess I'm just going to throw it in there and roll with it. If it starts slipping/making-a-grinding-noise, then I'll know for sure.
