I have searched for years for a nice looking 97 GTS, well today I found the best one I have ever seen.

I sure like those a hell of a lot better than the new ones!
Honestly that is probably a better car for you because of the price and alteast when people see it they dont go "wait a minute it has the scoop on the front...ohhhh its a 80 thousand dollar Z06!"
Also the passanger gets a nice cool breaze right on the crotch;)

How come I don't see your bid in there....
its not all that perfect. If you look closely there are some water spots in the bottom of the door jamb. These will need to be buffed out (or at least wiped).
With a symphonic engine like that, seriously why would you install a CD changer?

They are asking more than I am willing to pay. GTS are around high 30's right now. I would pay up to 42K for one if it was in great shape. I calculated it out though, by this time next year I should either be heavy looking to buy or have bought one.

Yea I think 40k would be perfect, about 900 bucks a month including insurance sounds a lot better than a Z06 that wont be worth 50k in 3 years...
That is the hottness :dropjaw: I think it would be more impressive then a z06 also.

Dear lord thank your Brock for posting that...I think you just helped me make my mind up.
Seriously, I wrote papers about this car in highschool, and in college. I departed from the thought for a while but now I am back to where I started. That car has always been a dream of mine and I honestly think I may make it a reality.
That TT setup is what I have always wanted to do.
Holy shit I can't believe that the GTS is in my reach, and it is actually the cheapest option of any of the cars that I had picked.

Dood get the new skyline, hahahhahah.
I am not trying to be mean or assertive, but how in the hell can you afford those cars??? Are you only co-oping? If so, most grown adults can NEVER afford a $50+k car and here you are in college talking about buying a $70k car. Lets say you can afford one, where is the money for insurance, a house, bills, other fun activities that DON'T revolve around cars. I just don't get where a college kid can find the $$$ to afford one of these cars even on an AMAZING co-op pay of $20/hr which only the best of the best make(and they are usually EE's or Chem. E's)
I know where you're coming from. And it's almost ironic how you own a very high performance vehicle with alot of mods which only few can say they have (you being in college i'd have no idea but still). It might be different for him but....
1.Learning money management when you're young is key. He could have been saving for god knows how long (apt. and other utilities are paid for so his $ is straight profit).
2. Sale of his own cars
3.He might have a rather large graduation present in his future
4. His parents are loaded (see #3)
5. His priorities are in a sick car first, other things later
6. Loans...he might be getting shit now, but he can afford it later
7. Smart investments
You're right, there are only a few who would and could do this. My priorities will probably be different then his when i graduate but I can see how there's a possibilit if he plays his cards right. Throw a little of each mentioned above and it's doable. I wouldn't look to highly about his situation if his parents handed it over but i mean i wouldn't hate on him....shit i'd do the same
I'll just enjoy it through you. That being said, pics or ban
And BTW, that movie...... I can't even wrap my brain around 163mph in the beginning of 4th

Before the C6 Z gets blown totally out of whack let me explain where my info is based on.
I have a family friend who is a car dealer and can buy at auction. I can also log onto his manheim account to look at their MMR so I have that as tool.
Basicly by next year at this time the C6Zs are projected to be in the upper 50's but with the announcement of the new Z at this years auto show prices are expected to fall off sharply.
Next order of business was saving money, I have been doing this all along so I would have a sizeable down payment. That being said after doing some number crunching today I realized I didn't want to be a slave to a car payment for anything more than about 900, so that put the C6 out of the equation for now.
What I can afford quite easily is something in the mid 30's range on into the low 40's.
That means that while the Z is out for now a GTS Viper in the early 40's is doable and so are the GT-500, and the new Camaro...but that will be mid 08 before we see it.
As of right now I am doing extremely well where I am working and will be recieving a larger sum of money next summer when I start a Co-Op up again. Your figure above all totalled is around what I am making not counting my living expsense and my travel exspenses.
Money saved away coupled with my projected income as well as my fiance who has agreed to help out while I am at school inbetween my Co-Op has made this a reality.
I am in by no means a rush to get myself deep into car debt, and would not and have not bought a car for this reason. I can buy what I want with in reason, having the comfort of knowing that about 6 months after I buy the car I will be full time employed with a garanteed job from who ever makes me the highest offer.
We will just have to see what works out.
hope that better explains the situation.:headbang:
I see a little better where you are coming from now and it makes a little more sense and I wasn't trying to come off like a dick. However, having been in a situation where I owned 2 cars while co-oping, I think there is more you need to consider. 1. Insurance. I am sure it will cost an arm and a leg to insure a 22yr old on a viper even with a clean record. 2. Gas. Its a viper, it sucks gas, your gonna be throwing money left and right at the pump. I know you will probably quote 21mpg which is probably what they list, but thats is if you barely breath on the throttle. Who get a viper and does that? 3. Maintenance. A set of tires is BIG $$$$. They are wide and low profile. Most sizes will wear fast due to the excessive power and inherent wheelspin. Brakes, fluid changes, etc. Its a viper, they have to be serviced more often. They will RAPE you at the dealership, so I figure you will probably do your own servicing. Not to mention, I don't know of anyone who DD's a viper. I am on VCA forums and Viperalley and have been on those for about 1.5yrs, it is def. not the choice for a DD. They also seem to be prone to little problems here and there. Finally, I will say there is a reason why only rich people own them. They are impractical, expensive, and rare cars. Pretty much everything a college kid doesn't need imo just after graduating, but thats only my opinion. I, for one would be all for getting a Viper, hell they are badass. It wasnt untill reality set in when you are paying for EVERYTHING that you realize that the initial price of the car is NOTHING in comparison to keeping it on the road.

X 2.
I'm just trying to be helpful when I say it would be REALLY wise to wait until you have a well paying job before making a purchase of Viper magnitude.
I also say this because I too was considering a Viper for a little bit but once you factor in EVERYTHING you need to be making some really good money to have fun with one. Owning one is one thing, being able to actually drive it without worry is another. If you have to live pay check to pay check just for a car you've made a bad decision. I mean think about it for a second. Your car and insurance payment will be MORE than an average mortgage payment for a decent house in Alabama.
Good luck though, just make sure you REALLY put your budget under the microscope.
That's my advice at least.
I say fuck what Brock and Michael are saying because Vipers are neat. They are just jealous.:happyFU:

my thoughts:
for every $5K financed over 5 years = about $100 per month at ~6% interest...
that put a $50k car at $1000 per month with $0 down.
$1000 - car payment
$200 (at least) - insurance
$200 - gas
$100 - maintenance
$1500 per month for a not-very-reliable 2 seater....
Sounds like a great idea!:wth:
Well, whatever works...VERY PIMP car!! I would buy in a heart beat if I was loaded.

Well things are about 1 year off right now, so there is no worry. I have a job offer as is that I am not going to take because I want to finish up.
After checking with my insurance company and my lender I am looking at around an 8% intrest rate with a 10K downpayment on a 45K car.
Insurance on a Viper is actually lower than it is on a Mustang!!!:O
Insurance would be $1900 a year as per GA Farm Bureau, also by the time the car would be in my possesion I would either be married and or very close so insurance would drop to $1700 a year until I turn 25 and then lower from there.
This car will definately not be my DD, I wouldn't want to pound the car that much. I will continue driving the truck daily since I will need it to go to job sites and my travel is paid for the company.
Either way the car is an expensive venture and will take some tactful planning on my behalf, but it is comming soon and I can't wait.

I hear you and Brock loud and clear, and I totally agree. I am in no hurry and plan to have everything clearly outlined closer to the time. Who knows though, by the time I get ready to buy something else may be a better deal.
With GT-500's running 9's with damn bolt ons I may end up buying one used or from the dealer when they start having an abundance of them on the lots.

I'm Brock btw not 1.8t.
I thought you were talking about buying the car now while you didn't have a secure job, etc.
No offense but if it's "a year off" before you think things can come together to purchase it then I really don't see the point of posting about it. It's stupid to play the "what if" game and a waste of time for us to try and help you figure something out that's very far down the road. When you have the money in hand to get something then let us know.
That's my opinion at least.

No I know you are Brock I was agreeing with both you and Michael.
I never said I was going to buy it right now, I just said the car was perfect and I wanted it. I have never seen a GTS that was that well kept up, and definately bought as a collector car only.
Anyway, no I am not buying anything right now...I thought I said that though? You and Greyson got all kinds of excited didn't you...I'll bet you poured warm honey all over each others thighs ;)

Building Science. I am building two Targets one in Prattville and one in Pace FL. I am also building the Circuit City in Trussville, as well as the Mountain Brook Board of Education, and the Vaughn Regional Medical Center addition in Selma.
The major pays well if you get in with the right people...I am in with good people right now.

I am working on the Auburn Research Park over there behind Locos and the Edge!!
A couple new elementary schools around Auburn too but I will more than likely be back at school before those go through.
Our company was the one who repared the arches at Toomers and did almost all of the intricate brick work around Auburn.:D :P
In other news I raced a guy in a 2003 3 series..Not M3.. tonight. I was in the maxima and scared the shit out of him when he jumped me and I pulled in right behind him and ran up on his ass.
I have got to get a car...I am going to end up tearing up this maxima if I don't.

Also consider that you will have a hard time getting a 5 year note on a car older than an '01 model or a 4 year note on a car older than an '00 model. Most credit unions and local banks will only finance a '97 model for 3 years. I have seen exceptions at my work with people with extremely high beacon scores.
But I say go for it!
