I just so happens that Road&Track did a comparison of the two this month. Yeah I know its magazine racing but at least its the same magazine.

M3-13.5@104mph (seen better)
Z06- 12.8@113mph (same here)

M3- .89g's
Z06-.98g's

M3 braking from 80mph- 213
Z06-204ft

M3 Lap time- 1:40.09 (350Z track edition beat it as well)
Z06 Lap time- 1:36.5

For more than $4,000 cheaper the Z06 is still the king of its price class. It even bested the 911 by the same gap in lap times as well. I guess I'm more of an import guy but there is no denying that the Z06 is the best performing new car (for the price) on the market today. I'm just amazed by its performance every time I read about it. I wonder when someone is going to step up to Chevy's bang for the buck challenge. Feels good for an American car dominate all of the imported rivals even if we have to do the "low-tech" way.

Well, the thing is, the M3 is not meant to compete with the Z06....yeah, the are close in price, not so close in performance, but they target two completely different crowds. Anyways, the Z06 is a damn fast car and beats many exotics in straightline speed and handling.......thats why Chevrolet can't keep em on the lot. The M3 fights S4's and other sport coupes, not sports cars.

The 6M is faster than the SMG. I've seen trap speeds of around 107. There is no way in hell that the 350Z beat the M3 on a track. I don't know where in the hell you got that information from. Hell, the G35 coupe 6M has pulled faster lap times then the 350Z. Just what I've seen.

Yeah and stock Z06's have trapped over 115mph. Different cars, different conditions, differents times. If you want varification that the 350Z beat the M3 just pick up the newest Road&Track. The 350Z also lapped faster than a new 911 as well. It only beat the 2 by a few hundreth of a second but it still got the job done. I'm not saying it is a better car but at this track it was a touch faster. The commented that the M3 was pushing more than the 350Z and that the Z was just easier to get around the track than the M3. Some tracks just suit some cars better than others. You can't say something off of one comparison test but it does show how much of a value the Z is.

< who has stayed on the butt of a SCCA prepped 427 Shelby Cobra on slicks and a prepped S2000 on slicks but doesn't put it and the R on the same level after just one event.

Good, because I could have an Indy car and go slower than a well driven Neon......Autox, Track, any road course is 95% driver. All I am saying is, we both know that both of those cars, if setup the way you say they are, would rip a Type R into a 100000 tiny pieces, so you and I both know they weren't driven as good as they could have been or those cars aren't meant for smaller autox courses.

and that's exactly why I don't put them at the same level. I swear some people get to jumpy about stuff. It's not like I own a damn Z06 or an M3. I'm just glad an S2000 wasn't in this test.

Differnet drivers, different conditions. I seriously doubt some of this information. I'm mot saying you're wrong but I think some of the information is bogus.

M3's have gotten really heavy. They are still great handling cars, but I would not be suprised at all if a lighter 350Z beat it at a particular track.
