i was riding down the road and all of a sudden all my speakers quit working except for my subs they were still working. i checked the fuse, the wiring, and no luck on figuring out why my speakers just quit working. none of the speakers are blown and i have no clue why this happened. any ideas as to what caused this? m y head unit is an alpine 9843.
EDIT: please be helpful. because this headunit cost $230.

It's probably the fuse or the wiring.

you might have a bad ground some where, did you install the unit it self or did some one do it? If some one else installed it, take it back to them. Get one of these http://www.buggiesunlimited.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/voltmeter.jpg
and test some areas to see if your getting any juice. If you cant do it, just take it to Jimmy, I bet he can take care of the problem.

Same thing happens to mine. I also have an Alpine. My subs will function fine but door speakers wont. All i have to do to get my door speakers to come back on is change something on my equilizer and exit it without saving the change i made. That with switch the door speakers right back on. Weird as hell but it works.

sounds like your pre-outs or internal amp went bad.

all is good with the wiring and im reading 8 ohms which is right. so i guess the only thing it could be is the internal amp which thats what i was hoping it wasnt. i installed it myself and yes i know how to do that. i have installed plenty of head units and subs and everything so im not a rookie at that.
Gansta coupe: i did research. and im sorry i asked a question.
\I got an alpine 9846 about 30 minutes ago.

I have the same problem with my JVC flip-out. Whenever i hit a bump or my subs hit too hard everything cuts off. If there is a cd in it will keep playing the cd but with no sound. And if it is on sirius sat or fm everything including the station info goes off. i know nothing about sound systems that' s why i had someone install everything.

sounds like someone left something lose in your setup, possibly a lose ground.

speakers could have fallen onto something metal, that usually does the same thing if the speakers are old and are no longer screwed into the bracketand drooping behind the skin

i just replaced the speakers with audiobahn components(highs, mids, tweets).
so i know thats not causing it.

that head unit was $228 after taxes. thats not cheap. yeah there is more expensive but this is the one i like. im not saying that jimmy is a crook or nothing like that. he has never ripped me off by any means i just know some people that have had bad turnouts with his installations. thats all im saying. so u must have misinterpreted something that i said but i wasnt in any way talking bad about jimmy himself.

theres places cheaper than millionbuy. also I wouldn't trust the guy the probably just blew out his internal amp to put a stereo in my car. go here, read it all, and then you might know half of what you need to know to truly be educated in installing and car audio (http://www.bcae1.com/)

"Where you gonna get service at? Whos gonna install it for ya?"
JCS is a crock of shit. They do horrible service and have outrageous prices. Jimmy doesn't know one thing about car audio. You deserve to get pwned if you take your car there for any type of work. Car Stereo Shop is the only place I would ever take my car in this town, but I don't pay others to work on my car.
b18 how can you post that you can install shit for someone when you yourself can't figure out a problem, thats just freakin hilarious. Whos gonna let some 15 yr old kid touch anything on their car? Your speaker problem is either internal to the unit or a VERY shitty wiring job on the back of the h/u to the speakers. I am betting on the latter.

Jimmy is not a good person to go to...and he knows JACK shit about car stereo and he changes his prices for everyone who enters the door...example..
I needed some Terminals for my Battery Relocation...
Sales Ass. #1-20$ for two
Sales Ass. #2-30$ for two
"How much you wanna sell these terminals for Jimmy" Resounds from both of the dick bags that are attempting to price gouge my ass
Jimmy Do 25$
Place is a shit hole and he does sub par work on everything
and B18cgsr should be changed to RICELIARFUCKBAG because you suck and I think you are a liar...and you overpaid for your headunit and 230$ is a FUCKING drop in the bucket for a headunit...

I have never bought or had anything installed at either shop but I have talked to both of the owners a few times. When I was talking to Jimmy about my setup he had no idea what I was talking about. The other shop knew and had done something similar before, over all they were much more knowledgeable and if for some reason I wasn't able to install my own equipment I would take it there over Jimmy's any day.

I'm pretty sure Jimmy still owns it. JW runs it if I remember correctly and he usually knows his shit. Don't knock Jimmy he's a good guy. If you go into Jimmy's talk to Grey if he's still there, he's the really large man and usually knows his shit. The prices on stuff are kind of weird in there, it's all done by memory and Grey knows just about everything they have in stock. I've known Jimmy since I was knee high to a cricket, he's a good guy but he owns a lot of businesses and has a hard time managing all of them so give him a break. I know all of them personally. I might be able to get you a discount if you ask real nice.

The only person I'd trust to do wiring in my car (other than me) would be Josh or Greg. Unfortunately neither work at BB anymore... it was a good place until they were both gone.
Also, Car Stereo Shop did some of the work for our SEMA car... that Josh ended up re-doing because it wasn't that great (ground loops everywhere).

They used to have a couple of really good guys when I started working there and they did an awesome job on my 1998 GMC Jimmy. A couple years ago I bought a new car and had them do the install on that one, The guy who worked on my car the first time got fired (stealing or something like that) and a new guy worked on it. I ended up rewiring most of it and still need to redo the ground wire (didn't touch that) because the guy used a factory bolt to ground but the bolt was painted. I dunno who they have there now. If you know someone who can wire it all up I'd have them do it anyway, way cheaper.

They had to buy a Lexus is300 from a customer because they hacked her harness to shit and nothing working when she got the car back, needless to say they ran the power wire from the amp, out of the hood, around the a pillar, and back into the car. When she went to go pick up the car she drove it over to the then Radio World and they laughed and wouldn't touch it. Told her to take it back. The then manager of RW went with her.:dropit:

I defended Jimmy's and then told you how poor of a job that dumbass in the back did. I worked there for a couple of years and can tell you that good installers are hard to find. The ones who are good decide they're not makin enough money and start rippin off product, and doin stuff like keeping the factory head unit after an aftermarket install then sellin it on ebay. That's not just a Jimmy's problem. A couple installers at RW (before they sold out to Jimmy) were waitin for big ticket customers to come in and buy a bunch of shit and get it installed. Then they would sneak a look at the receipts and get the guy's address then break into his car and steal his shit a week later. As for the guy who fucked up the lexus: You can bet he's gonna be dirt poor until he finishes payin Jimmy back for that car.

well, since I know for a fact that 4-5 cars from jimmys in montgomery got their shit jacked a week after installs...I think you are just trying to say only RW people are crooks...and, two of my GOOD friends used to work at RW and they are not thieves and one of them works for jimmy. I wasn't sayin it was just a RW problem. I said that good installers are hard to find and used the RW thing as an example. I even said that a guy from Jimmy's was jackin product. Also, I agree that if you're capable you should install it yourself. It's just dumb to waste money on stuff you can do yourself unless you know someone else can do a much better job. Now that I know how to do it and have done installs for a few friends I will do my own next time around.
