So about an hour ago, I was upstairs watching Pinks on the ole Tivo waiting for the wife to get home. Out of nowhere, I felt a sensation that I can only describe as a car running into my house. First thought was that Marcie had come home and somehow run the CRV into the house, so I ran downstairs and outside. Nothing. I stayed outside for a while to see if anyone else heard/felt it. No one came out. So I got a flashlight and went around the whole house checking it out and also to make sure no trees could have fallen on the house. Nada.

After an hour of freaking out, I go to the internets:

(Columbia) - If you hear any loud explosions coming from the Fort Jackson area tonight, don't worry.

We have received a number of calls about loud explosions in and around the Columbia area. Officials with the Columbia Fire Department tell us it's night training at Fort Jackson.

Members of the 748th Ordinance Company are undergoing explosive disposal training. We're told the training should end around 9:30 tonight.

Speaking of Ft. Jackson, they filmed an episode of Dirty Jobs there not too long ago. I guess I'm about 2-3 miles from there.

You have it easy. When I was stationed in Germany, my barracks was right next to the artillary range. When they would do night fires I had to cover the big windows with the army issue wool blankets and shim the door so it wouldnt rattle. If you didnt cover the window it would seam like someone was in the room taking pictures all night.

hell, I wouldnt mind living next to the firing range if it was in Germany

we had some explosive stuff going on at my dads place, they where blowing up hill side for development and it felt like an earth quake. just make sure they dont fuck up the foundation of the house though.

Hahaha that stuff goes on almost every night here in Ozark. Kinda makes you feel safe with Apaches firing live rounds a few miles from your house. :D

Nothing beats F-16's, F-18's, F-4 Phantoms, F-15's, AV-8B harriers and T-38 Talons doing low level flights DIRECTLY over your house.

I don't know what it was about our place in Leroy but it was obviously in some sort of prime flight path. The F-16's flew over all the time but whenever there was an air show in Pensacola we would get nearly every cool jet I could think of coming right over our house. I don't mean like "oh there it is off in the distance" I mean RIGHT over it and they for whatever reason would always be at crazy low levels. I'd run out in the middle of one of our fields when I'd hear them coming and would actually get some of them to roll 90 degrees for me. I guess that was their way of saying "yeah we see you kid".

Actually we've even seen them mock dogfight and my stepfather watched one of the harriers rotate it's vents and hover for a few seconds in the field behind ours. He knows nothing about jets at all and I got home from school one day and he was like "is there some plane that can stay in place like a helicopter?". I was like "yeah a Harrier". Him: "well there was one out back a few hours ago" lol.

I know it sounds like a bunch of BS but it happened. Heck I think Raiden has even witnessed some of it.

Leroy is on the edge of a Military Operations Area or (MOA)

If I'm reading that map right our house would be right here:

Wouldn't that put it outside of the MOA area?

Also note that they haven't made regular flights (the F-16's that is) from my knowledge since about the time the war in Iraq started.

A few months ago, an Apache helicopter landed at a mall here. I think it was like a show-n-tell or something. I've seen/heard helicopters take off before but this thing was IN-SANE. I was only a couple hundred feet back or so and OMG it was badassssssss. You could literally feel the power this thing was producing as it started to lift off.

All the guys there were like :dropjaw: and all the women there were like  can we get back to shopping now, it's hot out here.

I would think that it is close enough to the MOA that you would see all kinds of freaky shit. :)

Especially since your place is pretty close to the river. They love flying practice bombing runs against bridges and dams, two of which are pretty close to there.
