View Full Version : Thinking about starting over
Here's the situation.
1) Prelude - As you know, it needs a motor. I can probably make a couple bucks selling the f22 tranny and slightly used Stage I clutch. Ive got an h23 to put in it, but its high miles and has a hairline crack in the block. I dont think it would last too long boosted. H23's are not very easy to find, so they're not THAT cheap. Prelude aftermarket parts are a little pricey too. I owe about $2000 on the prelude. Once the lude is running, I can put it back to stock as close as possible and probably get $4000 for it. If i sold it, id keep the boost gauge and MSD and coil, and FMU.
2) the 300. right now its got brake problems, maybe that'll be fixed by sunday. i hope. It needs new carpet and a headliner. I figure if im lucky, i could sell it for $1200 or so once it looks a little better and i clean the wheels up.
3)Turbo Kit. Im getting my turbo back this weekend (if i can get to the bank and cash my check..anyone wanna give me a ride??!?!?). Its upgraded to a 360 degree thrust bearing which means...i dunno, but it cost me $140. It sounds like it was rigged and im not sure if i want to keep it or sell it.
Correct me if im wrong:
I could get
1. $300 for the intercooler
2. $250 for the IC piping and bov...its VERY hard to find IC piping for the 4g lude..very
3. $300 for the turboh
4. $350 or so for the manifold
5. $50 for the fuel pump
So, that would leave me with:
$1200 for the turboh kit
$1200 for the Z
$2000 for the lude after its paid off
thats $4400 to start over... its not a lot, but some things are doable
1) Civic. Get a civ with a b16z6 and do a home-made turbo, swap in my DSM injectors and get a VAFC, run 7psi.
a)pros: Honda reliability, and i know a little about hondas.
b)civics are like assholes, everybody's got one, torque? whats that?
2) S13 with around 100k miles on it. turbo it. if it blows, get a newer motor (kenny says i can find one for cheap easily) Torque, RWD
a)pros - torque, RWD and only ricegirl has got one, and ive already got a nissan keychain, pen and travel mug
b)cons - i dont know jack about nissans except mine sucks.
any input. I know cameron is gonna say get the honda

If you are thinking about starting over I would start with the Civic. There's so much out there for it and its a good platform to start on. But with the motor and all, did u mean D16(SOHC)? or the B16(DOHC)? If its the D16, I wouldn recomend it, yes you can get plenty of power from it and all but just to hit mid to low 13's, the whole motor has to be built like a beast and after all that $ spent, a nice B16 or B18 could have been bought. If its the B16 you plan on getting or getting it with, that would be a great motor to turbo. But if the B16 has to be purchase, I would consider the B18 LS motor b/c a LS turbo pulls strong. My buddy has a stock LS motor with a Drag kit, injectors, and Hondata and he runs 13.4!!Also its in a 4 door too. But honestly its all about tuning and fuel mang. with turbo Honda motors. Just try to fill me in with more detail later on and if you really wanted to do this, I got the hook up on motors and all, also I can get a really good deal on DRAG and Rev Hard kits and especially Hondata's.
With the S13, yea the stock motor will make power being turbo and all but once you blow it, should just go ahead and drop a SR20DET in it then. My buddy has a Silvia motor in his 240 and its a fuking BEAST!!, but he does have the Blitz or Top Fuel turbo tho. But only so much can be done to the stock 240 motor in which the SR motor will be one step above it. And like you said yourself, you don't know anything about it so it will be hard to work on it if you really don't know much. But I just say get the Civic tho, thats me, but if you do need a motor or parts, let me know. O yea I can get a lot of deals on all motor parts, clutches too, But remb the tuning is the KEY(Hondata)

If you decide on the Civic have you ever thought about going the all motor route? Find a B18B/C (depends if you want to do a LS/VTEC conversion), sleeve it and throw in some 84.5mm high comp pistons with forged rods. This would give you 2.0liters of displacement with the stock R/S ratio (means you could still rev the piss out of it unlike stroking). Then slap on a VTEC head with a good set of cams and you are looking at low 12's. Getting it sleeved runs around $800, another $800 for pistons/rods, balanced and blue printed will run you another couple hundred, cams and valve train another 1k, then the supporting mods I/H/E, fuel tuning, clutch. I don't see this setup running more than 5k.
OR the cheap route is to slap in some CTR pistons, some aggressive cams with valve springs and retainers, and the ECU tuning system of your choice. CTR pistons with rings run around $350 and cams vary but are less than a thousand. This is another setup that is EASY 12's with good tuning and the supporting I/H/E mods.

I definitely say Civic with a motor swap. You'll be happier with the motor swap than the turbo.
Thanks for the advices, but im still leanin toward the s13. I read a couple turbo installs and people are getting mid-high13's on teh KA24DE with stock internals. Right now here's the plan (not set in stone)
Possible Plan 1: find a 240 in good shape with a bad motor, get an SR20DET and a clutch and be done with it... do SR20's have LSD?
Possible Plan 2: find a decent 240 with a good motor, turbo it until it dies then go with the SR20DET
As far as going all motor, its not for me. I got the turbo bug and it aint goin away. Or, there's always all-motor with a BOV noise simulator. hmmm.
Im constanly changing my mind, so we'll have to see what happens once the money is in my hands.

I am going to say a hatch with a motor swap and a turbo. How about that LS turbo. Thats what a lot of you guys do right? That can't run that much..turbo, fmic, piping, and a tune. I am forgetting some stuff, but I have to leave right now, so I will edit this post in 2hrs when I get home

KA24DE engines will hold 350 hp daily driven (if properly tuned), nissan put them in everything, and ur moma likes RWD.
a lot of the s14 SE's came with lsd's, I think the whole axle assembly can be had for 250-300, and they hold up to the abuse. Transmissions will do well also, as long as you dont beat them like a cheap whore (true for anything).
Don't do the civic... that shit's so played out, be a little different (turbo KA has been done, and every man and their dog talks about the ol SR swap, but i've only seen a couple of turbo 240's, I've seen a pissload of turbo civics).
If you're gonna do a honda, get an old accord or prelude and boost that... ;)
You could also do an old supra turbo..

Forget all that shiz
get a FC rx7, my friend in huntsville has one, with just an exhaust, ran a 14.0 @101 this weekend. They look badass with a nice GP sports kit too.
They arent played out or riced out like everything else. Plus you have a factory turbo and an FR layout to have fun with.
I got some option vids this weekend, so if you want proof that fc's kick ass, let me know.
If you decide to get a D series powered civic, they are cheaper to make fast than a b series. You can run mid 14's with cams ecu and head work, even faster on slicks. If you blow it, they are way cheaper to replace too. IF I was in the market for a new civic, i would go D series.

Oh yea, and my best friend has a super quick MK3 supra that's bpu+. They are great cars too.
Okie, ive made up my mind. 99% anyways. Its gonna be a 240.
Auburn needs a fast s13 and all we have currently is a broken one (Sam's) and one thats most likely springless.
If you dont like it, eat a dick. Just kidding, thanks for all the input on the subject. Civics are tempting because they are easy and been done a million times (much like kenny's mom), but there are too many already.
Actually, Sam has an S14
I knew that, im just retarded. i meant...you know what i meant. yea..thats it. i was only off by 1/14th of a model, so its hardly even worth mentioning.

I dont think that car is cheap. But there is a white hatch for sale in town with oldschool ugly enkei wheels. But it is SOHC which is gay.
i saw that one too. didnt know it was sohc tho. its got 117k miles. Hopefully i can bring the Z to a brake shop this week. The bitter taste of defeat....
Im working on the Z's carpet. I dunno if you saw the b4, but here's the after
Total Cost: $29

LOL... i just had a thought....
OB, what do you do or say to people that try to buy rice or ask you questions about rice products? lol....do you shoot them in the face or tell them its cool?
almost every time i go into advance there's somebody in the rice section. Its tempting to go up to them and make fun of everything to see their reaction.
