Read the story... Amazing....

Short Version:

A car club gathers at a K-Mart parking lot every week. Yeah, people race every once and a while but, more or less it's simply a gathering of people. Sound familar anyone?

Well the HPD (Houston) for some reason had enough of people expressing there 1st Ammendment rights and swarmed in. Result? They arrest 425 people. More than half that were arrested weren't even involved with the actual 'meeting' itself. They were simply teenagers in the same area. The police even arrested a 10 year old girl getting ice cream w/ her father (There is a Sonic next door that shares a parking lot).

Lessons to learn?

Know your rights. You have the right to peacable assemble. Especially for us because our meetings are on public property.

DON'T PLEAD GUILTY. Alot of the people that were arrested simply plead guilty in night court to get home faster. Now they are faced w/ a criminal record for doing nothing wrong. If you didn't do it DON'T PLEAD GUILTY.

http://www.aclu.org/library/bustcard.html

Read this, memorize this, print it out, carry it...

There is nothing bad, wrong, evil, or un-American about knowing your rights. Cops hate it, why? Because they have to follow the law. Gosh that really sucks for them.

BTW... If you are ever in a situation where you think your going to be arrested. Try to get away for a minute and completly empty all of your pockets; keys, wallet, cell phone, scarps of paper, everything. Take your ID out of you wallet and put the ID back in your pocket. And give everything to a friend you can trust. All you need when you get arrested is your ID. Then DON'T SAY A WORD... Your arrested, done, nothing you nor the officer can do at that point. Anything you say is more than likely not in your best intrest. Just sit, grin and bear it. Wait for your friends to come and bail you out....

Read, learn, know whats right and wrong and don't back down about the things that you know are right.... Be American....

unless it is has a sign that says no loitering,
KMART owns its parking lots, it's not public property.
it's not a right to street race, and those kids were probably doing allot more than playing cards ie. smoking underage, drinking and selling god knows what.

cops aren't these awful people that are just trying to keep you in jail till your 45.For $9-$12 an hour the cops would rather just let them race and all kill them selves, but because these people break laws and do illegal things cops have no choice but to do thier jobs. i know i wouldn't doge bullets for half you morons for that much money an hour so you can talk shit about me because you can't tell that 55 is not 70?. but everyone has to work.
it's so dumb how people break the law and then get pissed becasue they got caught? not because they were dumb enough to do this crap?

a few months ago some gilr got hit and killed when some people were street raceing, what if his mom and dad were in the car that guy hit, you think he would do it again..?

lets get back to reality here.

P.S. that was the most biasedly written article i have ever read.
it mentions nothing of why they "Raided" the parkinglot and only mentions that the kids were causing "commotion."
Police don't form "raids" to stop a few people who are peacefully assembled. Besides the cops are just whipping boys for the press anyway, if they had just arreted only the trouble makers they would have been in trouble for not arresting everyone and singling people out. plus how many staright "A" students do you know that hang out at a K-mart parking lot past 12:30 in the morning on a sunday?

lets get back to reality? ok lets.
so you don't speed or ever ran a red light or not stopped at a stop sign. you could have hurt someone just as easy as a street racer doing those things.

also nobody said cops are these awful people..etc etc. its just like everything else. there are the good and the bad and you have to take them both. this is just to help when you encouter the bad.

why couldn't someone be out till the every so late 12:30 and make straight A's. is that hard to believe? huumm.....not to me. you act like they were up all night drunk at a titty bar.

ps. thanks adam

Alrighty RWDnotrice I dont know you and you dont know me, but I have a slight bone too pick with you. So lets get started....

Why is it that almost everytime you have recently posted I have gotten a whiff of a high and mighty attitude. Do you really have a reason to put down those who drink, those who stay out late (on a school night), or anyone who just happens to mess up ever? Well, my car enthusiast buddy if you have never done anything that is questionable then go ahead and preach, but if not I would sit down.

and on the point of the police. I think we all understand that not all cops are out to screw you over, but I also believe it is your right and resposiblity to know your rights as a citizen. I think it would be absurd to respect all cops especially with the amount of police brutality and corruption that is reported. I have been pulled over several times for speeding and I just take my ticket and pay and move on. I dont weasel my way out or bitch (too much). I do have respect for some cops because it is a job i would never do, but respect should not just be given automatically it should be earned.

Ok and with your trip to lala land with the possiblity of hitting your own parents and that bat guano...well it could just as easily been 5 strippers and Napoleon and you know what...No One Cares...Why? because it never happened it is all hypothetical.

On the reporting...yes I would agree with the biasly basis but 400+ kids arrested kind of throws up the flag for me that something isn't quite right. And I am used to bias because I live in Auburn...ever read the plainsman.

Oh yeah one more thing...The straight A students staying out late. What is hard to believe about that. I stayed out late in high school and had maybe 2-3 Bs the whole time. People can be intelligent and not spend every waking hour with a book...it does just come to ppl sometimes. On a humbling note I tried that here 'the no studying thing" and it wasn't working for me.

PS before the next post please learn how to write. Oh an dont call me a moron

Im sorry we weren't all the teachers pets in school. At times I swear either your a cop or your married to one... How about trying to live a little, and not be the parent on the forum, or consider trading in the 240 for a minivan I heard they were a little harder to drift and more prone to spinning out...

Talk about money?

Every single person arrested had their car towed from the lot..

$100 instantly and $15 a day for storage...

How about that aside from all of the costs they will incur trying to get their record cleared in court...

sorry mother, i mean RWDnotRice, seeing that you are now the soccer mom of this form. I guess you are the all "mature" one in this bunch  On a good note today, i didn't talk to any strangers, i ate all my vegetables, i brushed my teeth before i went to bed, i cleaned my room, i laid my clothes out for tomorrow, i looked left, right and left again, i changed into my play clothes before i went outside, i did all my homework, i even gave my teacher head... bj Anything else mother??That sounds about like your life style and because you dont we dont see things eye to eye dont come on like a parent to her child. Just because you went from being whipped by your mommy doesnt mean we're the same. How about growing some balls and being a guy. Its really nice. You should try it, if only for a moment. I am sure you will like it. Quit with all the grade school bewlshit lessons and get the jist of what is being said. Your name needs to be "The Old Wise Owl" or some shit if you are going to keep on with the story time Dr Suess, let me teach you the way bewlshit. You sound like a bad GI Joe episode... I am just waiting for you to be like "And knowing is half the battle..."

RWDnotRICE,

I understand your objection to this whole thing, but to disrespect people on this board (in your first post) when they have done nothing to you shows your "maturity." If you have so many "years under your belt" and we are all "babies", then why do you bother posting here anyway.

I've met you in person and you seem like a nice guy. Like most, you seem to be the type of person who has a completely different personality when you are behind a computer screen. I'm just going to assume that you had a bad day or you're in a bad mood as to why you felt the need to talk to the members of the board like that. Hopefully you'll realize that you don't have to talk shit to strangers to get your point across.

BTW- I've heard that your wife is a dispatcher for the AUPD, is that true? And are you a part of the police force? If you were, it would explain why you have such a strong feeling towards this subject.

That's right Tommy. Running in front of a train is bad and you could get hurt. < Something GI JOE would say at the end of an episode.

Man that is one of the funniest things to this day.
