Uh, who told you that? What's up with the misleading title, you don't even know!

I doubt it... There aren't many (any?) jobs better than Auburn available. Plus when you are at a school where you've had continued success the job is less volatile (you can have a bad season without too much risk of getting tanked).

Last I read they had agreed to an extension to 2010 but hadn't settled on the exact details yet.

Grider
11-29-2007, 10:19 PM
Its bullshit. People are taking the fact that he has gone to Arkansas to go hunting like he has done for the last nine years as a fact that he is going to Arkansas.

The rest of the media is making smoke and fire because "his extenstion is not signed and done" which is understandable. You don't create and sign a contract at this level in 30 minutes.

Jacobs not contacted about Tuberville
Posted by Phillip Marshall, The Huntsville Times November 29, 2007 8:27 PM

AUBURN - If Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville is on the verge of being named Arkansas' head coach, as reported by numerous outlets in Arkansas, it's news to Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs.

"I have not been contacted," Jacobs told The Huntsville Times on Thursday night. "If that were true, with the kind of leadership they have, I feel certain I would be."

Tuberville is in Arkansas on a previously planned hunting trip and is due back in Auburn on Friday.

I kinda want the ol ball coach behind the wheel at auburn but we developed such a passion for beating him in the past... it would be wierd. But I know he'd have the skill to be a worthy successor.

Personally, I'd rather have petrino.

Long did indirectly dismiss reports Auburn coach and Camden native Tommy Tuberville is a leading candidate.

"I will say that many reports about an SEC West coach are extremely premature, not only premature but fantasy," Long said.

Tuberville, Texas Tech coach Mike Leach (who was an assistant coach at Oklahoma while Long was an associate athletics director there ), Oakland Raiders coach Lane Kiffin (formerly the offensive coordinator at Southern California ), and North Carolina coach Butch Davis (a Springdale native ), have been the most widely reported as possibilities though Davis insists he is committed to coach North Carolina after only one year there.

Tuberville says `I'm not looking to go anywhere'; source denies reports there's deal with Arkansas
Posted by Birmingham News staff November 29, 2007 7:57 PM

Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville said Thursday he's not going to rush through his negotiations with university officials toward a new contract despite ``a sense of urgency outside in the public eye, but contracts take forever.''

Tuberville also told his weekly Tiger Talk radio audience that ``I'm not looking to go anywhere.''

The taped interview came as various Arkansas media outlets reported Thursday night that Tuberville is on the verge of signing a contract with the Razorbacks. A source who talked to Tuberville on Thursday evening denied the reports.

Tuberville had meetings with Auburn Athletics Director Jay Jacobs and university President Jay Gouge early in the week. They didn't meet Wednesday or Thursday.

``We're not going to run and jump through this,'' Tuberville said. ``I'm looking to make sure that people understand for us to get better, this program needs to take some steps in some areas for us to improve.''

Tuberville also said, ``What we've done - and what we'll probably do for another week - is sit down and look at the best circumstances for this team and program. There are a lot of variables you need to look.''

More in Friday's Birmingham News.

Link (http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2007/11/tuberville_says_im_not_looking.html)

Really shit is going to come down to who you believe. Arkansas fans and the media who serve them who are wishing for a new high profile coach or people like Philip Marshall with the Huntsville Times who is respected by CTT and who is generally spot on in their assessment of the situation.

People get their panties in a wad because they listen to talking heads like Paul Finebalm who does nothing but look for ant hills to kick over in an effort to generate listeners and callers.

3. Tubberville's buyout is 7 million dollars.

1) houses can be bought and sold in a myriad of places. the new coach would need a place to stay ;)
2) the old bag can move
3) big sec schools can cover that. Whether or not they'd want to, who knows. And it isn't that far fetched to think lowder would cover it just to see him gone.

The issue then would be getting a good replacement coach. still in all, I'd say far better than 50% odds that tubs is going to be around for a couple more years.

It's not tommy's decision on whether or not to stay, it's lowder's and my wife has seen first hand working at colonial how lowder operates a business and auburn is just like another business to him. He hires and fires on a whim and will give seemingly great employees the axe for most of the time reasons only he's privy to and then immediately turn around and hire someone else often paying them more $$.

Tommy's had a few ambiguous quotes out there too like sitting down and discussing "what's best for auburn's team and the school."

This is not 2002. That whole SACS thing from a few years ago dealt with this directly. The whole BOT Code of Ethics charge was aimed directly at Lowder's shenanigans as a BOT member.

Sorry I just don't feel like he has that level of control anymore.

Lowder still carries a fair amount of clout (and has more than enough to cover the buyout). That being said, unless ark comes up with some ridiculous amount of money (and the rumour is 30mil over 5 years :O, doubtful) there won't be much substance to this.

Reports from Arkansas shock Tuberville
Posted by Phillip Marshall, The Huntsville Times November 30, 2007 8:43 AM
Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville was sitting on a deer stand in rural Arkansas early this morning. Cell phones, of course, work even in deer stands if they're not too far out in the sticks.

Tuberville, who will be back in Auburn around lunchtime today, said he was incredulous when he learned after emerging from the woods Thursday night of the reports flooding out of Arkansas that he was on the verge of agreeing to become the Razorbacks' coach.

Tuberville didn't want to be quoted, but he had some strong words for those responsible for those reports. Neither he nor his agent, Jimmy Sexton, Tuberville said, has had any contact at all with Arkansas officials about the job vacated by Houston Nutt.

By the way, he and assistants Eddie Gran and Steve Ensminger were planning to hunt ducks but ended up hunting deer. Gran bagged a deer. The other two have struck out so far.

The thing boils down to this. Tubberville wants more control over the football program and lowder isn't going to give it to him (I don't think he will at least). And right now, the football program isn't going to let tommy do what he wants and if they're not going to amend his current contract with these changes that will give him the extra freedom he wants, he's not going to stay... it's that simple.

right now, auburn is holding him back from making the choices he wants to make and being the better coach he knows he has the potential to be and it doesn't matter what profession you're in, if you're put into a situation like that and a better option is presented, I could tell you easily what my choice would be.

Arkansas has a contract prepared for him.

And there is this...http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3135403
AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville told listeners to his weekly radio show that fans "don't need to panic or anything" amid reports that he could bolt to Arkansas to replace Houston Nutt.

Wesley Hitt/Getty Images

Tommy Tuberville is rumored to be going elsewhere, but tells Auburn fans not to worry.

"I'm not looking to go anywhere," Tuberville said on the show, which aired Thursday night but was recorded previously.

Arkansas has not contacted Auburn seeking permission to speak with Tuberville about the Razorback job, Auburn sports publicist Kirk Sampson said Friday.

Tuberville was in Arkansas on a previously planned hunting trip and was scheduled to return to Auburn on Friday. He is in talks with Auburn about a contract extension.

Athletic director Jay Jacobs said Auburn has agreed to lengthen the coach"s contract, but declinced to discuss details.

On the radio show, Tuberville said some changes are needed at Auburn, which he said needs a plan to improve its facilities.

"I've been here nine years and think I'm pretty experienced in what I feel and our staff feels needs to happen for us to go to another level, get back to Atlanta [to the Southeastern Conference title game] and win in Atlanta," he said.

But, Tuberville added: "People don't need to panic or anything."

"This is for the betterment of Auburn. Obviously, I always look out for my family, which is our coaches and our families. I want to make sure everybody is happy and healthy, but also has a chance to have success. We've had great success in nine years. We want the success to improve in the next nine years. I think everybody wants that."

Nutt was named head coach at Ole Miss after quitting at Arkansas.

From what I hear, Lowder has been racking up the skymiles today (yes i know he has his own plane).

edit: Bring Spurrier in for a few years til he retires, coaching offense. Keep Muschamp on board. When Spurrier is ready to call it quits in 5 years or so, Muschamp steps up to Head Coach.

linuxman51

I'd be more willing to bet he's working on an out in the next year or two. Why? He's getting the buyout lowered or removed. If he really planned on making it a career, why would he care about a buyout? He stands to lose nothing if auburn decides to dismiss him (cept' 6 mil in the pocket), and no change if he doesn't up and take another job.
Instead he's lobbying(ed) to reduce the buyout to a manageable amount. Where he plans on going is anybody's guess, possibly even his own.

Ark would be a step down for Tommy T, and while I personally would rather auburn ditch him and pick up someone a little less, well, average for lack of a better term; I don't see any clear replacement for him this year (would likely have to wait another year to really take a serious stab at Petrino), and I also don't see any worthwhile place for him to go. I don't know/think he would be greatly interested at the LSwho job, If Miles leaves after this season they're going to be almost back in the stoneage in terms of talent and likely recruits,
Ark is a niche school at best, and Nutt did a pretty bang up job with what he had, they might be the 'dominant' school in the state, but they get robbed by the rest of the SEC, the teams from OK and other central US schools.

Still, I wouldn't be supprised if tubby left, I would be more than a little supprised if it was for the hogz.

I almost expect him to be gone in the next 2-3 years however, and I wouldn't at all be supprised to see Muschamps go. Preferably somewhere where the SEC won't have to deal with him much ;)
