Tuesday is the big day. Parents came into town today and dropped my car off on their way to Monroeville(towards Mobile). Already planning my mods. I have already ordered an intake and 28mm adjustable rearsway bar. I will be custom fabbing my heatshield through solid edge at work for my intake, should turn out pretty good. 2.5" test pipe and DP go on order next week. APR's FMIC goes on the when they get some in that I can get my hands on. From there, I am not sure if I want to explore a K04 option(marginally larger turbo, just pondering it) or if I should get my wheels. I really don't want the wheels because I HATE being even fractionally slower than I am right now, they are 17X8 OZ Superleggaras and weigh 16lbs a piece. Well see, they should make my handling 100% better. I also have to do rear brakes. Brembo OEM size rotors with AP racing 555 fluid Dot 5.1 and either Hawk HP+ pads or APR sure grips(Tom had many nice things to say about the suregrips, he runs them on his car). SS lines of course.

Why should heavier 17" wheels make your handling better? People think that stiffer shorter sidewalls from a bigger wheel make thier car handle better because it is more responsive and less compliant. It might feel better but it doesn't handle better. Look at most auto-x cars 16" is the max they will go, many run 15" wheels. The only reason grand touring cars and other racing sedans run 17s & 18s is because it's the only way they can fit the massive brakes they need. Then all-out racing tires designed for that combination make it work well.

Why........well, you can look at my 60 series side walls and see that my 15" stockies are shitty. Its pretty obvious, 17" WILL handle better than my current stock setup. They are marginally heavier, have more contact patch, and stiffer side walls to prevent tire rolling. My stock tires roll the second I do any aggressive turns. They are only a 205 width and don't offer good grip with the 60 series sidewall. They will not accomidate my 13" rotors that will go on down the road. Thats why it is 17".

on that show high rev tunERZ they put on 15 inch rotors and wilwood calipers on a civic. they were friggin HUGE!

Better tires on wider, lighter, (and cheaper) 15s will outhandle the 17s. But if you are upgrading the brakes, and only 17s will fit, that's another story. I just get tired of people saying they are buying 17s and 18s for 'performance' when it usually has nothing to do with it.

I am upgrading brakes. How stiff can a 60 series sidewall be made. I don't know of any highperformance tires with stiff enough 60 series sidewalls that would keep the tire from rolling during a hard turn. If you know of any, let me know. I don't want my speedo reading off, so I would am going to stay near the stock diameter.

13 inch gold daytons handle best. THe 200 spokes per wheel help reduce rotational mass. The knockoff spinners are aerodynamic and act like a boat propeller, to give you exceptional acceleration.

If the tires are rolling over, put more pressure in them. There are lots of good performance 15" tires out there. A stiffer sidewall does not mean better handling, not at all. It depends on your setup.
