who wants to go to the track Friday, 11 April '03. Its finally supposed to stop raining and because of the cold front that just came through, it should still be cool. The forcast calls for clear skies with a high of 78. It should get down to about 40 tomorrow night. Let me know.

Greyson and I are going tomorrow along with another Stage III owner that we know from Atlanta. We just got done installing Greyson's Greddy Profec B, and i'm going to whip up some custom software to take advantage of it tomorrow. Hopefully both of them will run good times!

It's a VW/Audi regional meet I think. It's something like 10 states. Tonight is a rooftop party, tomorrow everyone will be at Andretti's Speedlab and then a party at Liquid Lounge. Sunday, everyone is going to the Varsity for lunch. Hope that helps some.

what ?? are you serious

Jon|Hazan
04-13-2003, 05:26 PM
no, def not serious. Because you dont run 14.6 with a blown motor, you run it with a blown clutch. Because watching the tach needle plunge to 7 when you shift into third doesn't make you feel to great. On the bright side, i did beat a camaro ss! So maybe he ran an 18.89 but thats not relevant, after all its not how you stand by your car, its how you rac... ok i'm done

Beotch as soon as I get money, a clutch is on the top of my list, as my stocker is slowly on it's way out. No point to pull the tranny for just a clutch, might as well do the flywheel too.

Oh and Exedy's suck donkey balls. Seriously.

the exedy race disc is the same thing as the act street/race disc which my friend has been running on his turbo civic for 2 years and it holds fantastic. Everyone says exedy sucks. And everyone says clutchmasters sucks. And everyone says act sucks. I say everyone sucks, so i'm just going to go with what i've seen first hand..

Ive never heard anyone say ACT sux
Never had a problem with my CM stage I

Id go with either. CM will prolly save you a few bucks *cough* throwoutbearing *cough*

Doesnt exedy make OEM clutches, or is that another company?

The Exedy race disc IS NOT the same thing as the ACT street/race disc, it may be similar but it's not the same. I understand what you mean about everyone saying every clutch sux. I agree that you will hear something about every clutch. Alot of that is due to improper installation and abuse. I personally view the problems with a grain of salt. I look at each clutch and see who has the fewest problems and what the company did to resolve the problem. I feel that any clutch can break, but I would like to know the company would back their clutches.

As you can see from this thread (http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=428581), Exedy was very unhelpful in replacing the clutch or giving compensation. There are many others like this case.

With all the rumors going around, go read some factual information on clutches in general. Here is the best factual comparison of clutches.

yes wiggie, i have read the honda-tech clutch 101 thread and heard about all peoples issues with exedy, but from my experience with the cars i've driven that have this clutch setup, i've found exedy to be very good and practical. So i personally like to take what i've seen to work well with my own eyes and use that in making my opinion rather than listen to some guy in afghanistan complain about how exedy didn't help him out when he installed his clutch backwards and then glazed it. Thanks for your concern tho.

Jess, exedy does make oem clutches for honda. and i know millions of people that have told me about how they've never had problems with act, cm, action, but apparently clutch bashing is the new cool thing to do so i try not to listen to people when they start to preach to me about how this clutch sucks and i HAVE to go with this certain one.

I know we're getting all serious here talking about clutches, but why dont you view the problems with your penis instead of the grain of salt seeing that they're the same size and everything. I hope you dont take this as an insult, im just pointing out the fact that your penis is roughly the same size as a salt grain. :)

get a clutch, we'll slap 'er in there

I use an Action kevlar Clutch setup. It's a small company out of Cal that you guys might not of heard of (found out from Wiggie). I believe they might have a site up now but I'm not sure. I was kinda scared at first when I got a little slipage after a few 7,000rpm back to back launches but then I learned a little more about the traits of Kevlar. Here are some points to consider.

1. Kevlar if treated properly can literally last forever.
2. Super easy on the flywheel. Guys have taken off their clutches after more than 2 years and can still see the machine marks from having their flywheel resurfaced.
3. Very high friction levels almost on par with metallic clutches.
4. Smooth engagement.

Downsides
1. Must be installed with surgical cleanliness (sp?). They actually recommend you not even touch the clutch with your bare hands. If even a small amount of grease or something similar gets on it the clutch is ruined.
2. Very high friction levels. Usually good but it also means its capable of generating a ton of heat. It should never be an issue unless you plan to ride it from extreme high rpms and do several back to back to back runs (like I did).

If you would read up you would find that organic clutch materials pretty much suck for racing use. Yeah my stock ITR clutch was still grabbing after 53,000mi and over 200 drag passes launching from 5-7,000rpms but lets just say I got lucky.

I went with Action's segmented Kevlar disk with the single diaphram pressure plate. Since I'm not planning on extreme whp I didn't need a dual diaphram but they do offer them as well. Check out www.exospeed.com for info on Action setups. Mine ran me around $400.

Nope. Man you guys are going to be pissed but i just bought a clutchmasters stage 1 ORGANIC DISC!!!! Wow, it was only 150 tho so you can't really go wrong with a clutch that still holds 70% over stock (Yes, jess, its brand new and comes with clutch allignment, heavy duty pressure plate, pilot bearing and throw-out bearing)

Jess
04-16-2003, 09:39 AM
aww man, you dont need a new throwout bearing. I figured we could just make a bushing out of wood or something. The rattling/grinding sound of those 3 or 4 bb's that are still intact in your throwout bearing give your car character.
