View Full Version : Project 2JZ change up

Well as alot of my friends would say i have come to my senses and decided to put the a 2JZ in my nissan 240 instead of the volvo.. Its a better project and should be more valueable and more than likely faster than the volvo "due to weight". So the project started full ahead today with the engine transplant...
Nice fit

^^^CORRECT. No ITB"S these are just the stacks the plenum will be attached to them. I guess that Sam will get the whole thing welded up over at the shop tonight. He did a mock-up over the weekend to test fit prior to the final weld up. There is some concern about clearance at the brake booster. I feel sure that he will post up some more pics when final fit-up is done.

is it hard to get a drive shaft for there trans and what not?
how are you attacking it?

alittle update on this project..
ITS GOING VERY SLOW.....
on other notes since i started this project i changed jobs and places to work on the car soo finally getting some decent work done..
Took the head off and cleaned up the engine and head "nice and new looking now"...
New parts installed
ARP Head studs
HKS 1.5mm headgasket..
i have ordered alot of parts this week that should be here soon..
timing belt and tensioner pully
cam seals, oil pickup tube, valve cover gaskets and other what nots....
and the big money got spent on a
Spec Twin disk clutch.. they made it custom for me and hopefully its going to
live up to the hype..
I will try to get some pics up soon..

stock ge internals i assume? if so why not a thicker headgasket? that 1.5mm doesnt seem like it would yield a very boost friendly compression ratio. arent you planning on putting a good bit of boost to it?

it should take it a full point lower cr than stock.. from what i have gathered its going to take it down to 9.0:1.. I think that should be fairly boost friendly..
gonna run race gas in it most of the time too..

the earlier (OBDI non-vvti) 2jzge must have a different piston shape and/or combustion chamber volume. this is the information i have gathered for the later 2jzge:
1.5mm HG >>> 9.35:1
2.0mm HG >>> 8.97:1
2.5mm HG >>> 8.6:1
2.8mm HG >>> 8.42:1
3.0mm HG >>> 8.29:1
im sure you've done you homework though
i hope the toyota treats you well :D

the rods and piston are much more stout/ tolerant in the earlier 2jz as well, so you should be able to get away with more static compression.
any interest in making another intake manifold?:)

Come on Sam you know it's just like on those car building shows on TV you just roll the car in and in two days it's all done. The mainfold could not take more than an hour and a half tops to make. You know if it looks clean and simple how hard could it be.
BTW when are you going to come by and finish up he mainfold?

Can the compressor inlet be clocked down anymore wotards the manifold away from the frame/strut tower? (only the top half of the pics would load for me for some reason). Looks good.
Can the compressor inlet be clocked down anymore wotards the manifold away from the frame/strut tower? (only the top half of the pics would load for me for some reason). I've got some "pictures/ideas" in my head. I'll give you a call. I can meet up with you any evening whenver your there. I'll just box up some 3" alum. & syl. bends that I think would work. We can lay it out from there.
It looks like
Hotside:
3" sil. 90-alum 90 to the fender hole-45-90 to FMIC
Coldside:
4" to 3" somethin- 90-45-90 to FMIC
I could be wrong, but that's kinda what I gathered from looking and what I remember you telling me. The 45* coupler is available too

ALABAMA’S MONTGOMERY MOTORSPORTS PARK to OPEN
NEW SEASON of SPEED™ SERIES PINKS ALL OUT
GEORGE HOWARD SAYS, “WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO HOSTING THE
LARGEST DRAG RACING EVENT EVER ORGANIZED IN ALABAMA."
PINKS ALL OUT HEADS TO MMP on NOV. 15
SPEED, the definitive network for motorsports and the automotive lifestyle, announced today it will shoot an episode of its popular television show, PINKS All Out, at Alabama’s Montgomery Motorsports Park (MMP) on Saturday, Nov. 15. The shoot will be the first dedicated to Season Three, which is slated to begin airing in the summer of 2009.
PINKS All Out enters a new season with a lot of momentum, as the show crested the 25,000 attendance mark three times during Season Two (Atlanta Dragway, Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio and Gateway International Raceway just outside St. Louis.) The Alabama episode will be the first of 10, which will resume shooting in 2009.
“The 2008 season has, in many respects, far surpassed our grandest expectations,” said Robert Ecker, SPEED VP of Programming and Executive Producer of PINKS All Out. “Bringing the show to tracks all around the country and experiencing the tremendous response from participants and spectators has been a true thrill. The sight of grandstands packed with 25,000 cheering fans all on their feet makes quite an impression. Heading into Season Three, we don’t take any of this for granted.”
The track is owned and promoted by the Howard family, George and Jim, and has established a strong connection to the local and regional racing community, which includes hosting the now famous ‘Million Dollar Drag Race,’ one of the most popular grassroots events in the Southeast. This will be the first PINKS All Out to be shot in the state of Alabama, as the original show, PINKS, was shot at Alabama International Dragway in October of 2007.
"We at Montgomery Motorsports Park are proud to have been chosen as a host track for PINKS All Out,” George Howard said. “Our racers and fans have been asking us about this event for quite awhile now. This will most definitely be the largest event ever at MMP. We are looking forward to hosting the largest drag racing event ever organized in Alabama."
For those who want to enter the event or receive spectator ticket information, log onto MMP’s website www.mmpdragracing.com for the latest. For the latest information on PINKS All Out, log onto www.SPEEDtv.com.
The balance of the Season Three schedule will be released in the near future.
ABOUT THE SHOW
PINKS All Out is hosted by Iowa native Rich Christensen, who is also the creator and executive producer. The show, produced by Pullin Television out of Los Angeles, invites local racers to run their cars “All Out,” during two time trial sessions, while the show’s technical advisors selects the closest grouping of elapsed times to make up the PINKS All Out 16. Any racer who tries to guess the elapsed time or ‘sandbag’ (running slower to fit within a certain elapsed time category in order to gain an advantage) will be disqualified from the competition.
PINKS All Out, called the “Woodstock of Drag Racing,” by Summit Motorsports Park President Bill Bader, Jr., is an entire day’s worth of on-track racing and off-track activities, culminating at dusk in the running of the final 16. As part of the midway, the SPEED Mobile Theatre will be on hand providing entertainment and autograph sessions, while on track fun includes a variety of professional and amateur drag racing equipment.
SPEED is the nation's first and foremost cable television network dedicated to motor sports and the passion for everything automotive. From racing to restoration, motorcycles to movies, SPEED delivers quality programming from the track to the garage. Now available in more than 78 million homes in North America, SPEED is among the fastest-growing sports cable networks in the country and, the home to NASCAR on SPEED and an industry leader in interactive TV, video on demand, mobile initiatives and broadband services. Geez I'm such an idiot. I don't know why I thought it was this coming weekend... I think that way back before football season started I had somehow associated it with the Arkansas game weekend which sparked big debate with whitney becuase her parents were going to be in town and I would be MIA all weekend and it pissed her off but she got over it.
Our band worked our butts of this weekend though as we're headlining some big biker show in 2 weekends so I would have still had some serious schedule manipulation going on if I wanted to get down on the SE7.0 action.
:(
Oh well... there's always next year.

well the turbo seems to be good after all.. a piece of metal broke loose from the inside of the exhaust manifold and wedged itself into the turbine wheel.. the turbo seems good after all..

That's good to hear on the turbo. Did you decide whether you are going to run a blow off valve or not?

You need a BOV? How much boost are you running? I have a GReddy Type-S on the shelf; it's a good valve unless you're running more than 20-25psi.

Yep, it's been spotted around the east side of town on several occasions. It's even been spotted standing still at a certain undisclosed location.

currently stuck without a good crank trigger setup.. and depending on how the rest of this junk goes i may be jumping the megasquirt ship in favor of a more rigid AEM tank..

I'm going to laugh if the aem does wierd shit. I hope it doesn't, but I'll laugh if it does. There, I said it.
that being said, the issues encountered are, sadly, typical these days with megasquirt... someone conceptualized something similar in function, applied it universally, and won't go back and look at it to fix things that don't work. Apparently this is one application where it simply does not work right for one reason or another. I think the newer board might deal with the crank VR trigger better, but it simply shouldn't have to come to that (well unless its like that fucked up nissan shit). A downfall to free tech support if you will, people don't tend to pay attention to the 'oddball' problems unless they're directly affected.

Oh don't worry that happens with expensive tech support as well.. as in why blackberry can't figure out why their server software won't install on my server at work
