DING DING DING you win two gold stars. Yes, air to water and chemical super cooling (meth injection across the intercooler core).

The tall thin box sitting next to the throttle body is the intercooler core. The thing mounted to the front section of the passenger side frame rail is the pump for the intercooler. The front most radiator is the heat exchanger. The two sheets of aluminum sitting where the battery normally goes is the tank for the water. The meth injection is not mounted on the car as of yet, it is still living on ZmasterB's z32.

The Vortec Supercharger is rated at app 700 hp so I guess I will see around 600+ at the wheel.

Nope. I got that covered the set up is a Dart 2.0L block with 84mm custom Wiesco pistons and a custom set of Oliver rods renotched to accept the GSR narrow bearing and run on a new b20 crank. The crank was reworked by me to impove oil sheadding and decrease windage while removing app 3lbs from it's rotational mass. The head is a CNC ported new casting from Dart that I cleaned up a little and CC'd the combustion chambers and matched all of the intake and exhaust runner volumes. The head is a full ferrea build up with .5mm over intake and stock exhaust valves. I will be running a set of stock 94 gsr cams as they offer a fairly small amount of overlap.

Well.... I know 600 whp is wishful thinking but.....;) . I started this project a few years back and I already have the V1sc and all of the custom CNC machined brackets and pulleys to mount it. If the set-up look promising I will be moving up to a bigger blower.

Just a little update. Over the last week I managed to get all of the rear control arm and trailing arm bushing replaced as well as refinish all of the rear suspension parts. I also rebuild and refinished the rear calipers and installed the rear big brake parts and the Tein flex suspension. Over the weekend I got the header and all of the exhaust work done I will post up some pics of them after they come back from JetHot.

Dont know if you've gotten the Breambo kit yet, but you may want to talk to this guy before you do:

http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1811368

He makes custom OEM "big brake" kits. And if I am not mistaken, I think he is somewhere in GA so you might be able to pick them up or get them shipped for cheap.. Sample of his work:

http://img37.picoodle.com/img/img37/4/2/16/f_rls2000uy8m_518f1ae.jpg

Largest OEM acura/honda calipers available (RL) mounted on a 11.8 rotor. I think it even clears some 16'' wheels..

Jay always already has everything...

wanna know the sad thing riley...its more expensive to get pads/parts for freaking acura brakes than it would be to get willwood/brembo parts...

my NSX calipers were 400$ Used
OE Brake Pads 140$
Race Brake Pads(HAWK, AXXIS)200-250$
Rotors 11inch 100$ a SIDE for BLANK rotors:O
SHIMS/Clips...PER SIDE for a set of NSX pads...42$ A SIDE! 64$ a side from Acura/Honda

insanity

THANKS....for posting up the pics... My lazy ass never remembers to take progress pics. As for an update; everything that you see in the pics of the engine bay has been removed. All fabrication that required the dummy motor trans and blower has been completed. The engine bay is now striped bare. I will start getting the engine bay ready for paint. All usless holes will be filled and the bay area will be slicked up to the same finish level as the outside of the car. I have gotten all of the bushing in the front suspension replaced and all of the parts down to the rack and cross member have been refinished to factory new condition.

No. That is the way that the manufacturer recommends that the intercooler be setup. It generates a better profusion of air across the cores and also aids to generate a slight pressure drop. The overall performance of the intercooler is only reduced by around 2% verse the use of a plenum like I am going to do on the 240 project.

I am going to try to post up some pics of the engine bay after this week end. ZmasterB has agreed to assist me in MIG welding up all of the unused holes in the bay area on Saturday. The TIG welder does not like welding on material that is not clean on both sides and seeing how Honda dips all of their panels prior to spot welding TIG welding is just not a good solution. I hope to be able to make the eingine bay look as good as the Goolsby paint finish on the outside....we will see:)

titec2
03-03-2008, 11:56 AM
Well.......as usual I forgot to take any pics of the progress on the Civic project over the weekend. ZmasterB came by as scheduled and he got all of the unused holes in the engine bay area welded up. I have gotten all but a few of the welds ground down and surfaces blended. Today I will go the the paint store and pick up the epoxy primer to seal up all of the bare metal and give me a surface to start skinning on a few coats of plastic body filler. I promise I will take a few pica before I get started with the priming and filling. I hope to have it ready for paint before the end of the week. if Greg from Go Auto Works comes by I will be sure to get him to snap a few shots.
I think this thing is going to look very sick when all of the engine bay work and aluminum polishing is done.
There are still a few things left to work out like where to locate the battery and exactly what type of clutch set-up to run. The header will be back from JetHot the mid part next week and it should look good. No real fab work left just a LOT of reassembly. I diid get all of the brake and clutch lines off of the fire wall and out from under the car. All lines have been cleaned inside with mineral spirits and are 100% clean inside and out. The last of the componant parts the cross member and the steering rack have been refinished and are ready for reassembly along with every stinking little removable bracket and clamp.

Thanks ZmasterB, Autoworks and Nissandrftr88 for the help it is always appreciated.

I got a 1 quart fast epoxy primer to seal up all of the bare metal a small tin of plastic body filler 1 quart of high build two part primer the correct sealer primer for my body color 1 gallon of reducer a quart of their high end clear top coat a few plastic spreaders and 2 rubber squeegies. Damage done $272.00 and some odd change.

Well here are a few pics of the engine bay progress as of 1:00am this moring.

this afternoon I will be removing the small hump (the little spot of filler in the middle of all of the red) that is on the on the passenger side inner fender and getting rid of the last nuts that is welded on the inner fender on both sides. The pesky little nut can be seen in the last photo close to one of the last holes that has not been welded up yet. I know what a lot of you are thinking.....oh my god look at all of that "Bondo". In reality there is very little filler on the car at this time I would say that the thickest filler is less that a 1/16" thick at the max and that is only in some of the real deep wrinkles at the edges of the strut towers. Also all of you that are Honda guys will notice that the funky raised circle on the passenger side is also missing. Thanks to a prodding form ZmasterB and Nissandrftr88. If all goes well and I can put off the work I am susposed to be doing in the shop for someone else I will get the first coat of high build primer in the car on Saturday.

OCD man to the rescue..... Here is what I got done last night. I removed the hump were the factory air box was mounted and got rid of the nut that was welded to the inside of the lower inner fender. I would have gotten more done but it was already 1:30 by the time I finished all of the welding for Autoworks and stitched up the spot where the malignant hump was removed.

As you can see from the other pics of the wheel well and outer apron there is very filler used. The last pic is the first skim coat of filler.

I will see how much work I can get done tonight after a build a small chandelier for one of my other customers.

Well it may not look a lot different from the last update but I now have around 40 hours in the engine bay clean up and prep. I figure that at the rate that I am getting it preped that I may be ready to put the first coat of primer on by this weekend. A lot will depend on how much other work I have in the shop between now and then.

Were are the latest pics.

Sorry for the long delay with an update......been busy working for the man....Go-Autoworks.com.

For those of you that give a f-ck I will up date the thread this weedend with a few more pics of the engine bay work.

If I am unbolested for the remainder of the week this mother (the 92 civic HB) will be in primer this freaking weekend.

I sure hope I can make it happen this weekend cus my fingers can't take much more *_#-@ sanding.

That is all.

03-24-2008, 10:27 AM
Well as suspected I did not get as much done as I wanted, however I did get a few pics to post up.

I got aggravated with the way the driver side motor mount was looking so I reworked the whole area. I cut and fitted small pieces of sheet metal to fill the voids in the flange of the mount and welded it solid to the inner fender (to prevent any chance of cracking the plastic filler). I think that it looks much better this way.

All that I have left is the driver side upper strut tower and I can get the whole thing sealed up with some two part epoxy primer and start a few layers of high build primer to get it all real slick. Right now the primer you are seeing is an etching primer to seal and burn-in the work that has been done up to now.

Yet another update. I have finished up all of the body work on the engine bay and now I am ready to seal it all up with a 2 part epoxy primer. After sealing up all of he work I have done so far it will be time to move on to the high build primer. I can't wait to get to spray some color on this damn thing. I hope the last month of sanding proves to be worth it. BTW the little spots of blue-green sutff are the last of the very small holes that I found and that will get the final sanding today.

Here are a few pics of what I did last night. I thought that it was a nice place to hide a battery. BTW the new Honda plug pins will be in in the next few days so the wiring will soon be finished. Then it's off to finish the last 2 items that have to be fabricated: the coolant overflow tank and the crank case breather box. It is really geting to the point where I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. This project may be finished sooner than I thought. I am still trying to get in touch with the guy that is going to do the interior work, he is the last of the hold-up's to finish the project that are out of my control.

I hope to have the same results that I have gotten with the OEM mirrors that are on my 92 Civic HB (DD). I polished them back in 02.... give them a quick rub with some clear coat scrub or other paint cleaner the polished plastic looks like it was just done. I am not expecting the Ebay cheapies to hold the polish quite at well, but we will see. You may be right they may turn that crappy gray powery color. One thing that may help slow what ever process that may dull the finish is the car is stored inside the shop.

OK so shoot me....

I have found out from my insurance agent that I have no insurance coverage on my shop until I have finished all of the construction. This translates to I have had no coverage for the past 3+ years because I did not put up the siding. For the last 2 and a half weeks I have been (with a little help) installing the 80lb sheets of siding on my shop in addition to keeping up with the paying work that I have in my shop...been kind of busy. I hope to get back on the Civic as soon a I get my insurance agent to come out and check off the finalized construction. I have spent over 2k in the last week on materials to finish up the shop. I have been working my regular 8:00 to 5:00 job going home getting shop work done and finishing my day by installing siding till 10:00 or later every night.

Here is a small update on the civic project. VETC wiring added.....changed the single wire O2 to a 4 wire O2. I will be rewiring the AC control to operate the water to air pump and the cooling fan independent of the thermostat / ecu control. I talked to the guy that is going to be doing the upholstery work and he is cool with doing the work but he is backed up for the next month. I think I am going to upgrade the rear brakes to a set of 2 piston Wilwoods and repaint the upper core support and remove the slots for aiming the factory head lights.
