so, i tried being somewhat responsible and asking my insurance agent "what if" a car had a supercharger and a rollbar, and it was totaled or stolen... could i purchase additional coverage for parts such as these and be covered in the event of a loss?
they said that any car having those modifications would be deemed not a street car and coverage would be immediately dropped. so i said scratch that idea... how much would coverage be on a 2003 corvette? (just to change the subject).
so, they won't let me BUY more coverage. im currently with state farm, and am liking my low insurance rates, but is there a company out there that will allow someone to buy insurance for extra parts?

what you were told is not true. You need a different agent.

Word. State Farm is usually very flexible, and hell... why would they turn down YOU paying THEM more money??

You need a customization policy for your mods. I have done it to every vehicle I have had. Ranging anywhere from 15k in coverage to 4k in coverage.

Honestly if you were to total out your ride or something and they didn't cover it, you can just go and take those things off but like rims/susp/stereo, you gotta at least leave the stock parts with the car. Most ppl always take cd player back and I just tell them to leave something in the seat or give me something and they can take it.
Like I always say, each insd company has differents rules and all but I know all have some kind of aftermarket policy and all. I just know with Allstate, just have reciepts and you're good
p.s. Your Agent is fcuking stupid

Could you elaboarte on how to go about getting this addition coverage? I have talked with my insurance company and I was unable to get coverage that would even come close to paying for the paint work on my Civic let alone what I have in my 240sx or other cars.

Paint does to count. I have had 2 custom paint jobs covered. One with 7 or 8 colors and one with just 5 with no problems. Wheels and tires covered, and all my stereo and a MISC coverage for performance mods. I have Farmer's or Foremost, I have had the same agent for several years and they do me right. The only thing with paint is that they will depriciate it a certain amount a year for a period of like 3 years. The truck I had with so many colors was a 97 Chevy Blazer I had like 13k in coverage on it. 6k was in the paint and the rest was stereo and wheels, anyway it got keyed. The damages were 5500, totally covered and I took it to who painted it in the first place. 2 weeks to the day from them cutting the check I hit a deer. Total damages was 6k again totally covered. Both were comp claims and didn't really increase my premiums. I will get the number to who I use if you are interested.

Thanks..... that is very interesting as I am insured with Farmers as well and they have never mentioned anything about this type of coverage. They only mention some type of coverage that was for Vintage cars but nothing for late model imports. I wll be very interested to talk to your agent and see why mine has her thumb up her ass.

Let me re-state what I meant. I mean that if you wanted extra coverage for paint, you can't. Now if you have a custom paint job and something gets messed up from a accident or so, yea they'll pay extra for it. I hope that clears up what I meant. Long story short, if you have a custom paint job,no extra coverage or so needed to be covered:cheers:

If you have a custom paint job you did need additional coverage. You insurance covers basically NO add ons to your car. Unless you have a customization policy.

I've got USAA and I told them about the mods to my Z and had no probs. I didn't even have to pay extra...go figure.
