My youngest brother is in the process of moving to auburn this week and my dad has commissioned me to find him a TV tuner card for his computer since there's not enough room in his room to put a TV - no wall mounting allowed in the lease <_<

They've got a decent LCD in the den with charter HD and all that but he needs to be able to watch tv in his room also and a TV tuner card for his PC seems like a good alternative since he's got a 22" LCD monitor.

I think I know which tuner I'm going to get him but I need to know if Auburn has a decent reception of OTA HD signals like NBC, FOX, ABC, etc so I'll know whether or not we need to get an external antenna to mount somewhere or not.

The Tuner card would also let him hook up the 360 to his pc so it'd be a good alternative to an actual TV for that reason also.

The only problem I had with the tuner card in mine and playing video games was a slight bit of lag (about a second) between the console and the display. It made some levels impossible to play. I'm not sure if that was just the card I was using (ATI TV Wonder Pro) or if it is endemic to all of them. I have a Hauppage MCE-500 card in another box but I never hooked up the console to it to see if it has lag.

I litterally tried for an hour to beat a mission on GTA:SA when it was hooked ot my computer. I got pissed, unhooked the PS2, took it down and hooked it back to the large tv and beat it on the first try.

As far as HD reception, I know Tom has a good HD antenna in the attic of his house and he can pick up NBC and Fox well. Not sure about CBS and ABC but I'm bet they work too. I think he gets the Columbus stations better than the Gump ones.

I have the Hauppage as well in my laptop the HD is okay I've watched the news on it, and had a small amount of lag at certain points, and I live out in the sticks near Lake Martin, so if it works here should do fine there, I tried to play GT3 and it sucked, 1 second delay blows...

I don't think you will get any HD in Auburn unless you have a serious antenna. You can check what antenna you need for sure by going to Antenna Web (http://www.antennaweb.org), plugging in your address, and seeing what you need to get what...

I get ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox out of Columbus and Montgomery, all in HD. I sometimes have to rotate my antenna to get an HD signal from the furthest towers in bad weather. WSFA's tower is 73 miles from me... I have a Channel Master 4228 (8-bay bowtie) Antenna, Channel Master 7777 preamp, and a Channel Master 9521A remote controlled rotator, all in my attic.

Through Charter? That would be the only way you are getting HD through the wall without an antenna. ESPN is not going to be on OTA.

half the places down here offer free basic CABLE, and being that they have the box in the living room im willing to bet the bedrooms have basic CABLE unless they get the box in which case there is no need for an antenna:fuckoff: :fuckoff: :bfg: :bfg: :asshole: :asshole:
